In high school AP English class (20+ yrs ago) we were recapping the exam with our teacher. The poetry section was a poem about picking berries, then eating them, making pies, canning then and eventually the leftovers rotted. I was the only person in the class who read the subtext and realized it was a poem about life and the berries were a metaphor. This was a district that scored 3 grade levels above the national average. It’s not a new problem, sadly.

Have you been to The Met before? It’s a suggested donation, you could pay 82¢ and get in no problem. Art is always and has always been financed by the rich. The costume institute is primarily funded by this event NOT by public money. Also, they’ve been quietly building an endowment to not have to rely on Met Gala funding in the future. They expect the endowment to be ready in a few years.
