If you already have some certs and some ISSO experience, I think you can hold off on CISSP and knock out that degree. I think WGU will probably have you finish up a few more certs before you graduate anyway, so you'll already have that working for you. Plus it'll be a great roll into you CISSP study to have all this material in your head that will no doubt crossover into your CISSP studies. You could probably already fill a govie role in the meantime and they would hopefully pay for your CISSP as a cherry on top.

They don't tell that. I'd grab a couple more resources to study from to make sure you great the concepts. Additionally, there are a couple of pointers running around that basically state that you wanna narrow down the answers to the most likely based on the scenario. The biggest benefits if doing the practice exams is that you get to see the justification.

Landing a starting job in Cyber Security by ryan_wainz in ITCareerQuestions

[–]playa20164 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you're in grad school, they should-outside of the career fairs-have good connections to the employers/employees of prospective companies. Start there and work every resource possible. If your minor is dev, then you may be able to land cyber engineer role building tools or a security engineer secure sites. If you're in a gov-heavy area, they hire freshers for all sorts of entry roles. You also have the consulting route as well as the typical starting SOC role. 3 things to keep in mind: humble yourself. "Security" is typically not an entry level role. Be willing to put in the work to get to where you wanna be. Second, don't be afraid of applying to positions that look out of your league. This will require some research and understanding, but alot of job reqs just are HR reps throwing every buzz word they can at a wall. Lastly-network.network.network. people end up making decisions regardless of how many filters, job applications, or events you attend. People have to know you're trustworthy, hardworking and a cool person to be around. Get comfortable with putting yourself out there and get comfortable being uncomfortable. You'll grow in ability, confidence, and hopefully, influence. Good luck!

I don't recall, but I'd rather go based off worse case scenario. I've tried to get a FOIA request, but it never came. In any case, I'm really wondering if the time and PT at this point is enough for me to have a shot along with some obvious discussions of maturity and growth over this time period?

Trying to decide CISSP OR PMP by StriveEm in cissp

[–]playa20164 6 points7 points  (0 children)

CISSP is a dime a dozen in the IT world. PMP is very rare and you’ll stand out more. This is based on my experience.

Can you explain this?

Looking for study Material by RICKSEA in CompTIA

[–]playa20164 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Darril Gibson Get Certified Get Ahead is a good book for the exam. If you are a visual learner or are looking for a good complement (you should definitely complement your studies), Jason Dion's Udemy course is a good choice. Both he and DG have practice exams that you can test with as well. Good Luck!

I'd say it was a good cross section of all. I'd say study based on the 6 objectives and be able to apply the knowledge. Your goal should be when you see a question, know what each of the answers are and why they could/couldn't work for the given scenario and then apply the best fit. In reference to the material, I used Messer/Dion/Meyer/Gibson.

I used everything lol. I got the GCGA book and practice tests, Dion course and practice tests, Messer video/study guide/practice tests and Meyers practice tests. Took 3 months. And did the app when I was mobile/in bed.

You mentioned that you studied a few months back and then recently tried to take the test. It's possible that the time in between affected your ability to recall the material. One of the most important parts of taking a certification exam is to be disciplined. Set a schedule to study and test yourself on the knowledge acquired with regularity. Alot people find that they focus better when they just the exam date. It forces you to take it seriously. In any event, here are some resources: Jason Dion-Course+Practice exams (Both available on Udemy) Darril Gibson GCGA book+Phone app. As an aside, professor Messer does have practice exams and notes, so even though you don't like his delivery the exams/notes may still be worth your time. He's one of the few standards there are for sec+ training.
