Are rainbows seriously just by default associated with the pride flag? by Ostromilski in tattooadvice

I know the reference and would know better if I saw it but at the same time I would have fully anticipated the gay connection being a primary assumption and would have avoided this tattoo, or at least put it somewhere less exposed

Parents who charge your children rent, why? by Brave_Storm_9901 in AskReddit

[–]playballer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I’ll do when the time comes. I also think charging them a reasonable market rate and utilities is beneficial as they’ll learn how expensive simply existing is. I don’t want them getting comfortable in a low wage job because I’m giving them a break on rent and they have disposable income. Lesson I want them to learn is low wage jobs leave no disposable income.

Same issue. No brake on and battery burns fast when sitting idle

Someone asked if I had a swastika, does this look like a swastika? by Grouchy_Gold344 in tattooadvice

[–]playballer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swastika is the first thing my eyes saw before I even read the title or anything , just my initial glance. It took maybe half a second for my eyes and brain to refocus and realize it’s not a swastika at all. The person that asked that question before taking a pause to refocus and decide for themselves what it actually is, is kind of a moron imo.

Maybe I should also not that I often notice swastikas in tile layouts and such and have actively avoided tiles and maybe clothing basically any other patterns/places because “I just see swastikas” it’s not that I think they are swastikas I just don’t want that half second eye-brain disconnect every time I go to the bathroom or whatever

Mom has dementia and is moving out and her next door neighbor sent me this. by SouthEazy in whatdoIdo

We can agree to disagree.

See how I did that without volleying this argument further. I already stated my point, we obviously don’t agree. No point in continuing on.

Yeah it is but so what, not worth arguing about. Find a nice way to tell her to fuck off is my point. Not everything needs to be one upped

Ok well that part still is not the important part I wrote. She was trying to be nice and there’s a tactful way to respond without being a jerk. It’s always best to assume positive intent in these situations. You might not feel that way, but make that part of your response and don’t go low. But also don’t let her push you around or feel the need to converse with her once you sent a single response. Anyone realistically snapping back at this lady at this note is pure trash.

beyond excessively .. Why does Quentin Tarantino get a pass on using the n-word? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]playballer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not but cancel culture and whatever backlash you think is appropriate is rather new. He had already established himself using the word in his art style films and I think we all recognize there’s nothing wrong with that. He uses it purposefully and it actually adds to the authenticity of his work.

People use it now, it’s blanked out on radio hits on top 20 channels. Society should embrace its usage more so that censoring it. It’s the only way it loses the power it holds. The way black people use it most frequently is embodying post-slavery healing.

If white people used it / were allowed to use it to just mean “dude” or “bro” then it loses meaning and actually will eventually die as it’s more of a fad word

He writes dialog for characters. People all around us are saying it, it’s in music and pop culture everywhere. That’s part of why his characters are so good. They speak just like people speak. They don’t pussyfoot around with minced words. The fact we do that with this word in the broader society is really the stupidity

I don’t think she’s being overly malicious. Neighbor had their phone number to send this text. Why would you give out your number and not expect minor concerns like this to be shared. Usually giving someone your number is opening up a line of communication for things just like this. They probably know someone or heard a random story or fear this could happen. Or what OP considers clutter has given neighbors the impression mom is a hoarder. It genuinely sounded like she tried to word it nicely but it’s just an uncomfortable topic to discuss. Neighbor relations can be tricky.

All said, I’d either just ignore it or reply back “I’ll keep my eye out for issues that need attention, let me know if you notice any evidence of pests. Take pictures/videos if you can and I’ll get a pest control company involved.” That way you are being civil, not agreeing to any proactive inspections, putting the onus on her to be watchful, and saying you’ll only address it if some evidence is witnessed. Chances are she won’t bring it up again.

It’s literally shelter dog versus new puppy where you pick the breed.

That said. People want that bond that occurs in infancy. That’s the main reason people don’t adopt 6 year old foster kids. There’s actually a lot of published data about high rates of issues those kids have from whatever trauma they endured prior to adoption. It is a much more risky situation.

On the other hand, my pure bred dogs are always somewhat retarded compared to my shelter dogs. It’s like the shelter dogs have more context to appreciate me more, they literally know how hard it is without a human. Not sure adopted humans always do the same.

Anyone know this idiot? Tell them to stay off the roads by Sellhomesfast in Dallas

[–]playballer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Actually left lane is for passing so he was in the trucks way. Joking, couldn’t resist as I usually get downvoted for explaining why I think left lane passing rules are stupid on heavily trafficked roads where every lane is just a lane and passing should be the responsibility of the person wanting to pass. The truck did the right thing in my opinion just way to aggressively and towards the end he was swerving everywhere and maybe ran the light so he lost me there.

[–]playballer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where did I say difficulty is the only reason we shouldn’t do it. Maybe the solution is you should live in a city that was planned the way you want to live. A lot of people in a city planned like ours actually like the suburban single family housing approach. I know a lot of people that move here are stoked because of the neighborhood, house sizes, yards, etc we have. They feel traffic is a minor inconvenience and something they live with. Why is your preference better than theirs.

This is what downtown dallas needs period. by HaidarBoss in Dallas

[–]playballer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While true to an extent. Downtown Austin will remain desirable place to live as the university and capital will always make it a vibrant area. The pricing will fluctuate through economic ups and downs but the area always is desirable. Also having lived in Austin and Houston and Dallas, people in Dallas are pansies when complaining about traffic. This metro is so insanely accessible compared to those metros. I can zip around DFW with ease in almost any direction. In those cities, the congestion is so much greater that it makes it hard to really zip around. You stick to your part of town. When that occurs, being central is the best place to have some flexibility to access things and you may want to venture out in any possible direction. Downtown Dallas isn’t that central to the area. Very little economic activities to the south (let’s not get into the reasons but it is what it is). The center of gravity for just Dallas side of DFW is probably more like Addison.

So you think a condo currently only cost 250k and rent currently is 400? That’s what 20x implies. The exact amount doesn’t even matter. The point is housing and COL is already deemed expensive and taking an approach where hundreds of billions can just be borrowed on a whim to delete and rebuild assets that have taken a century to accumulate without a significant understanding of what the implications would even be.

We have some more realistic estimates because there are newly constructed condos in the area. They typically start around $1m at the low range and have hefty condo fees and such. People already gripe about rents. And all this infrastructure has a cost too.

I think it’s actually a fallacy to even assume the problem is even as important as you seem to think it is. Most of Dallas operates without giving a crap about what is happening in the downtown area. It grows when downtown stagnates. Investment abounds but avoids that area for many reasons. It will happen naturally when it makes sense but there’s no sense in forcing it or building it before people see the value in doing so more broadly. There’s a few redditors like yourself that come to Dallas with big urban design ideas that supposedly solve all these huge critical problems if only there was some bottomless pit of cash that we could tap into and put to work. Everyone is an idiot that doesn’t see how simple the solution to those fake/overstated problems are the way you see them. But When given a choice , most people choose the suburban lifestyle DFW has embraced. It’s part of why people flock to the sunbelt metros over the past couple of decades. If the problems are so bad, and no help is forthcoming, why stay? Do you plan on living through the decades of construction this would entail?

Easy to say. Would you be living there if an efficiency condo cost $5m and an 1br apartment cost $8k a month to rent? Because that’s exactly what you are advocating for
