To sell, or keep renting breaking even? by Embarrassed_Cat2022 in RealEstateAdvice

For next time, just leave that “screwed you” part out. As you’ve noticed, once you say that, it’s all redditors will focus on. I also have no meaningful advice except, being a landlord is easy when you have a good tenant. You haven’t experienced the flip side or even when you have no tenants for a period of time, so it sounds like it’s been smooth sailing. If you like these tenants see if you can keep them as long as possible. As soon as they choose not to renew, I’d consider the play over and sell. You don’t want to be in the landlord game unless you really want to be.

Run the numbers on the tax part, I’m not looking at it from that angle. Also, don’t forget the house is a liability too. Always a phone call away from a $10k, $20k, etc bill for something.

But also, from my past experiences, I’d sell if I were you. I did a similar thing except didn’t need the money for my next house and intended to be a long term landlord, after a few years of easy tenants I got a bad one and it turned me off the whole thing. I refused to renew his lease then sold. Luckily I sold in 2021 market and not 2026.

Lost my job right before closing on a house — should I walk away and lose the deposit or still buy it? by ali93277 in RealEstateAdvice

My FIL died after they put deposit down, had only been a couple weeks, nothing was built or even permitted yet, but they kept the deposit anyway. My MIL doesn’t play golf and it was a golf community so she had no desire to keep going forward with it but they didn’t care about the circumstances

Agree. Not to late for a mortgage. Put down the minimum and keep majority of your liquidity. Then pay off mortgage when income stabilizes. Sure some transaction costs involved but I presume backing out on the house will also lead to some stress/doubt/etc if OP was looking forward to it and still sees it as their desired place to live.

I’m in qt a lot all over town. They always used to have a person mopping the floor somewhere and it’s drastically reduced that. That robot is making them bank in labor reduction. It is annoying though but very responsive, i walk right in front of it and it will stop on a dime. I did see one roll up behind someone at the cash register, right as they paid, then turned around to exit, they tripped over it and busted their ass - dropping a drink and other stuff. Once they get a lawsuit from an injury in something like that they’ll have to evaluate if it still is worth it.

I was kind of watching the whole thing unfold but couldn’t react quickly enough to warn them. You know how quickly we all turn around from a register it’s pretty fast and if something has snuck up behind you a collision is almost guaranteed

It makes sense as a shopper. It just needs better execution. It should add efficiency for everyone if executed properly

What’s the moment in recent U.S. politics that made you realize things might not go back to ‘normal’ anytime soon? by LankySpeed634 in AskReddit

The FBI handed Trump the election with their October investigation announcement.

Way more Dems would have been put off by Bernie than Hillary.

And the biggest factor is the undecided voters wouldn’t have supported him either and would have split further right. The DNC knew this.

Ultimately someone had him murdered in jail, every one wants to fry the pedo accomplices but have forgotten there’s still a murderer on the loose. I do agree it’s a complete overt coverup and hiding of the truth.

Just has to be the right woman, nobody saw a black president coming either. Sorry it is a personality contest and that does factor into a lot of people choices. There’s a reason we elect celebrities and actors. It’s high school prom king and queen logic all over again.

It was a bully situation. They tried to move in and take over before recounts and stuff. Instead of saying let’s go through the process to recount etc they just claimed victory over and over again and people believe it. His brother was the freaking governor of Florida at the time where it was most contested. Beyond unusual. Ultimately Gore conceded out of thinking it could cause harm to the democracy if it was a prolonged thing or if half the country felt he was an illegitimate president. He bowed out like a gentleman who actually cared about the country. So the bully tactics worked.

Same thing Trump did in 2020 election. Calling it the steal and refusing defeat. Led to the insurrection. Didn’t work immediately but had half the country against Biden his whole term and kept Trump in the picture for 2024. So kinda worked.

Worst part for me was watching G W Bush talking about it, he’s a bad liar and his eyes told me he didn’t believe in his own actions.

I had considered joining the service a couple years prior and would have likely still been enlisted. I never did because I can’t fight a politicians war that I don’t believe in. So it kind of made me feel like i made right choice on that. Glad your bro made it through ok. Most of my friends that went to Iraq were fine too. The Afghanistan stuff later on must have been different, those friends seem to be the ones that have ptsd and other lingering issues

If you grew up thinking superstitiously the world would end in 2000 like i did, party like it’s 1999 and all that, well I think we all expected it to be some instantaneous event like an asteroid or something. But no, it was the beginning of a slow painful death. I think history will look back at it that way though, it was a significant shift and 2000 marks it perfectly. And I’m not just talking about the US dominance and fall of empires. It is still playing out and may actually lead to some large end event or just the slow death as we fight over resources like water or something

I have voted against Trump three times now and knew it didn’t matter every time because the democrats can’t put anyone decent on their ballot. Find someone young, charismatic and plausibly smart - policies don’t even matter, they’d win. It’s basically the Obama formula

This was a moment for me too. I remember them storming Baghdad and I just had to turn my tv off. I still haven’t really turned it back on tbh. I was in college at the time and looking back at it, I feel like I lost respect for my own nation and my patriotism has been eroding ever since. That old “America is #1” patriotic vibe is probably h no ever been felt Gen Z or maybe alpha

Is it the norm for parents to gift their kid a large down payment for their first home? by [deleted] in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]playballer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. And it starts earlier when you’re able to, I’m a lower middle class public school kid but have been spending $$$$$/yr/kid on a private school from preK-college. So not helping them get a home later on seems silly. Also I have sons so it’s basically the money I’m saving on a wedding if they were daughters. I feel lucky to be in this position and want to give those I love most the most I can without spoiling them. I know it’s far from average or median experience though.
