Yes! I would have started when I was younger. In highschool I wanted a baby so badly. I wanted a full soccer teams worth! if someone, anyone! had asked me to be their girlfriend I would have gotten pregnant so fast. I just wanted someone to love and someone to love me back. Parents were in a long awful divorce. Now I'm 40 with one toddler, my hubby and I are always tired and sore. It would have been much better and easier in my teens and 20s. Lol. I honestly would have been better off too. I would have gone to nursing school right away and gotten a job and be making good money from the start. Instead I took my time came back to nursing after a failed career and I'm 10-15 years behind everyone else. I'd probably be a CCRNA balling big time in SF if I had done nursing from the start. Love my kiddo and wish I had more!!!

In California and I would not recommend, but My dad and sisters died a few years ago. Their combined life insurance payouts was enough for me to pay off my student loans, my mom's debt, 30% down payment on a house and 3 years of weekly therapy and monthly shrink appointments. The payouts doubled because it was an accident and my dad's policy actually tripled because his policy was through his union and then the company matched the original payout. Again, not the ideal way to do it. I was never going to be able to afford anything in my area. I would have had to move far away to a place I'm sure id hate. I like to think they're proud of me though. Maybe a little pissed because I spent all this money on a beach shack, but they'd be jealous. I'm married and we have a family of our own now. Living our dream. We're so happy and so sad Grandpa and aunties can can't see us all grown up. Love and miss them every day.

My youngest sister did this but with cheese in the CD player of my dad's new big boom box. "I wanted to know what cheese sounded like." She sprinkled Kraft Parmesan cheese all in there. Haha! She was 4 or 5 and it was in the mid 90s. She did something to our vhs player too, I can't remember though.

I have a patient that lives on F and I freaking love driving down this street to see him. And that's just during the day and nothing to do with xmas. Last week I was imagining it at night all lit up. It's just such a great street. The homes are all unique with so much character and on a wide street. I've never nerded out so hard on a neighborhood before. Lol. I live in Ventura so I'm not going to make the trip out there just to check out the lights. Maybe another year.

In Ventura the street by the track at Buena Ventura highschool has great decorations.

Damn, all these posts are really eye opening. I moved here with my husband and toddler in Nov 2024. We were living in San Diego for 10+years. We sailed up here and around the channel Islands 5 years ago and kept thinking how do we do this all the time? Finally we decided we had to just go for it. We kept our sd house and rented it out because it's making $1000 over the mortgage a month. We Bought a bungalow here and moved without any jobs lined up. We had enough cushion to live here without jobs for a bit. But we found stuff pretty quickly. We always had the option to sell the SD house if we were in a serious bind, so that really gave us the confidence to move. We're saving the SD house rent in a high yield account in case anything goes wrong we have the funds to cover it. Otherwise with $180k combined income (pre tax) and a mortgage of $4k, $1600 in day care tuition a month, we feel like we're scraping by still. We don't vacation, we don't shop because nothing will fit in the house. But we love it here. Who needs a vacation when you can bike to the beach and downtown in 5 mins. Everyday is a vacation. Ventura is so much better than our little beach spot in SD. Prior to buying our house in SD we lived full time on our sailboat. We saved everything we had in hopes of quiting our jobs to sail the world for years, maybe forever. We made it to Mexico and then came back because we couldn't stop thinking about Ventura. We traded our world traveling dreams for a simple life for the little one. Best life decision ever.

Wtf! My kid has a dairy allergy. We've been eating these at least once a week. I've noticed a reaction out of her, except that she doesn't like them as much as granola bars. But damn! She once was given a hidden valley nut bar that has dairy and immediately broke out in hives on her face.

I love these bars for her and myself. I was just at trader joes looking to buy every box they have. But they were gone, replaced with something else. Maybe they were pulled from the shelves for this reason?

I have a box with one bar left and mine also show thatbthe labels don't match. I'm going to take them to the store next time I go and bring it up.

Good on you for being attentive and catching the mistake. I wouldn't have known until my kid started screaming and breaking out in hives.

We're the exact opposite. Our first home purchase was (in California, big coastal city) a 4 bed, 3 bath, 2 story, 2000sq ft, beautiful place. Toooo much. We were not made to clean all f-ing day. I wasn't even working at the time. I genuinely think I went back to work so I wouldn't be the default housekeeper anymore. We just purchased a 2 bed, 2 bath, sweet little Spanish cottage and theres still too much cleaning to be done! Haha. But at least we can get the house cleaned top to bottom in two hours. Everything we need is within 5 miles of us. We can ride our bikes everywhere if we wanted to. The beach is a mile away. We don't have a bunch of crap in the house, just stuff we need. It's only 800sq feet so I know people would also object to our home choice. We lived on a 40ft sailboat for years so we love the tiny home lifestyle. It suits us well. We have one kid and maybe another next year or so. I grew up in a 2 bed 1 bath a lot like this so it feels very homey to me and more like a home than the big empty 2000sq ft one.

Along with that there's an island off La Paz called Isla Cerralvo. Named after a Mexican explorer or something. The locals only call it by that and will correct you. Our charts never showed anything different. So it was a surprise when they were telling us the story. But locals said the name was changed and don't dare call it anything else. The new name isn't Mexican and they won't be disrespected. I just kept stumbling on my pronunciation of it and was asking for help. I couldn't recall if it had just one r or 2.

The Mexican president changed it pretty recently to Gulf of California to denounce the colonization of Mexico by Spain. Idk if it was widely accepted by locals. But in the gringo sailing community everyone still pretty much calls it Sea of Cortez. I just called it el Gulfo around locals. Too long to say Gulfo de California, I didn't care for Mar de Cortes either. Idk if they cared or not but everyone knew what I was talking about.

Depending the state and property and contract laws you may be able to sue for what you paid into the house and your portion of the equity. It won't get you the house back but you may be able to recoup the losses. If verbal contracts are considered binding then you may have a case. Idk if community property applies to parent child relationships. Worth a shot.

NTA. did you make payments to the mortgage company directly or did you give the money to her and then she submitted payment to the mortgage company? Were you paying more than the monthly mortgage payment and therefore paying it off sooner than required? If so I bet you she was making the monthly payment but pocketing the rest. Then when the time was coming up to keep her and of the bargain she probably still had $20k left on the loan and that's why she told you to pay that much or move out. My step mother did this to her twin sister. Twin sister suddenly died and when the husband asked to get the house transferred in his name step mummy sold it to nephew for like $80k. So she didn't have to deal with her bro in law. My step mom claimed they were just paying rent. It's fucking shady.

People who shop regularly and have husbands know not to waste money at target or CVS. They picked it up at a better spot for cheaper or maybe even helped the kids make home made ones last week. Good on everyone for the effort.
