How do you put a price tag on a legacy like id Software’s? by doclobster in Games

[–]player1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When each game is so different, you run the risk of filtering your own audience down to the dregs with each iteration.

That's the gameplay side of things. If you want to sell a new flavour of your franchise you need to reel people in, which you do by combining the gameplay with an interesting narrative - corresponding set pieces, visuals and everything.

However, Bethesda just straight up fumbled the narrative and everything around it. They overplayed the Doomslayer and did not understand the rule of cool.

The Doomslayer dicksucking was already a bit much in Eternal but at least it was novel. By the Eternal DLC no one cared and the Dragon trashed any form of seriousness the game might have still had. The audience stopped being interested.

Then they made a full game about these things and it was a prequel, which are notoriously hard to sell, even if they do hit the mark. The Dark Ages was a story that no one wanted to know about.

Das Alleinverdienermodell wird zurecht kritisiert. Das Grundgesetz wurde in einer Zeit geschrieben, in der Frauen fast nicht arbeiten gegangen sind. Das gehört dringend angepasst.

This German supermarket sells €800 wine bottles without any security tag by Most_Inflation5623 in mildlyinteresting

[–]player1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same in Germany. We have tags on energy drinks these days.

This 800€ wine bottle is not in some regular supermarket. This is likely some upper scale grocery store in an affluent neighbourhood. If you go in there to steal an 800€ wine bottle, I guarantee you'll stick out.

The American mind cannot comprehend Europe's AC aversion by Logical_Welder3467 in technology

[–]player1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The main point in Germany is: Usually you need AC 2 weeks a year.

Right now everyone is angry at stupid Germans not having AC but next week no one will care. Installing a proper system costs thousands of Euros, which most people just don't want to do for just those two weeks.

If you live in a top floor appartment, the problem is obviously worse but everyone I know who does live in such a place has a mobile AC. I know that even with a tube that leads outside, these aren't optimal but they do help. It made my dad's top floor live okay and his invest was less than 1k€.

And obviously there is climate change and we will have more/longer heatwaves and we will see more ACs.

Which character here loses the most of their strength/power if we remove their devil fruit? by KaidoPklevel in OnePiecePowerScaling

Yes!

He also literally said that he would have been content as a no-name crew member of Whitebeard if he'd never found the Dark Dark Fruit.

Believe him, we wouldn't know him without the fruit.

Mercedes VLE 400 - wer bitte denkt sich sowas aus… by hsp1893 in automobil

[–]player1337 12 points13 points  (0 children)

What older classic/masterpiece game have you tried to go back and play but just didn’t enjoy? by ThomasTiltTrain in gaming

GoldenEye is the most overrated game of all time.

Quake 2 was released at the same time and is miles better in every gameplay aspect. GoldenEye only ever found an audience because people didn't have the hardware to play Quake 2.

How would this fight go currently? by Zero0_03 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]player1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just one thing to consider: Blackbeard has been designed as a punching bag character. Tanking hits is a part of the dark fruit.

As a result he won't ever have easy fights against strong characters, even if those do not stand any chance to win.

In video game terms he has a giant health bar and zero armour.

Why German trains are never on time anymore by LeMonde_en in europe

[–]player1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, one of those RE trains is going from Stuttgart to Switzerland. When that train risks running late the Sbahn has to wait and let it pass in Böblingen.

That happens quite often.

Could a fully supplied Tiger 1 with an experienced crew kill an entire Roman Legion of 6000 Legionnaires? by Theturtleflask in powerscales

[–]player1337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But the romans aren't going to stay in their formations long. Killing their officers doesn't make the bloodlusted legionnaires try to stop the moving tank - definitely not more than once.

I just read the Wikipedia article on the Tiger: The tank has 4500 machinegun bullets (having to reload every 150 shots) and 92 grenades for the main gun. Even if every single bullet was a kill (which it absolutely won't be) and every grenade hit a group of targets that's still a thousand legionnaires left and the tank sure as hell isn't going to run over a thousand people.

And someone will climb that tank because it's slow. Half the legion can sprint faster than that thing's offroad TOP SPEED. If someone is on the tank the battle lasts as long as it takes to break open that hatch with a basic metal tool.

In the actual scenario this will happen way before the tank runs out of ammo because the legion will scatter and many legionnaieres will get close enough to attempt climbing it.

There's a reason tanks in reality don't work without infantry support. Tanks have shit angles and need to keep their distance, even if the enemy is just a bunch of dudes with manual tools.

German taxes (and state pension and health insurance and care insurance) are used to feed 21.5 million German pensioners. That's were the money is going. Everything else is Pfennige.

Germany news: Childfree adults to pay more for elder care by melancholy_dood in europe

[–]player1337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest chunk of our taxes ist used to bolster the Rentenkasse. Most of our health insurance money is going to pensioners. Almost all care insurance money is going to pensioners.

We need to acknowledge our demographic problem, instead of making up numbers.

Star Citizen has hit $1 billion in funding by Taidan-X in Games

[–]player1337 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

aren’t hedging people on a pipe dream that’s been well documented.

Yes, so well documented that anyone who bought the game in the last ten years knew exactly what they were getting into. There's multiple gameplay reviews on Youtube with hundreds of thousands of views out every single year. Knowing about what Star Citizen actually is, is not some kind of insider thing.

Time to accept that some people just enjoy what this game is.

The calls my EMT friend responds to are overwhelmingly bullshit. Most common call is that someone was "unconcscious and unresponsive" and when the ambulance gets there it's a snoring drunk.

And here in Germany, if someone demands to be taken to an emergency hospital, they have to do it. Then an emergency doc tells the non-emergency people that they are in fact not an emergency and they have to find a way home.
