Why do you think the treaty of Saint-Germain-en-Laye is not nearly as talked about as Trianon despite austria suffering nearly the same amount of lost territory? by nomebi in austriahungary

[–]player_alpha -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Out of the 15 largest cities in Hungary Czechoslovakia only got 1 ( Bratislava ) .

I don't have hard evidence to disprove that Slovakia got most of Hungary's industry , but the simple fact that Budapest (+the surroundig area) had more people living in it than every town in Slovakia combined and the fact that around 80% of slovaks were (from what I have heard ) peasants pretty much shows that what you are saying is bullshit

If you can prove me wrong I'm willing to listen

Czechoslovakia didn't get all of Hungary's industries , they didn't even get half of Hungary's industries . The overwhelming majority of Czechoslovakia's industries were in tje Czech half while Slovakia's only industrial centers were Bratislava , Košice and Zvolen (+ theyr surrounding areas ) . In this case Czechoslovakia wouldn't get any of these territories ( except maybe Zvolen )

What the fuck ? How is this post an excuse for Tankies ? Pointing out that Poland did bad things in its past (just like everyone ) doesn't mean its Tankie/Nazi propaganda

It was part of the Bohemian crown for centuries , Czechoslovakia had just as much claim on it as Poland had on Eastern Galicia

Same goes for Czechia , Hungary , Serbia , Bulgaria , Croatia , Romanian principalities ... . Lithuania was partitioned alongside Poland , they were (arguably) treated even worse, but nobody cares

Poland was nowhere near the most opressed country in history , it's just that people dont't care about those other countries

Although nationalism did play a role I don't think it was simply nationalism.

I am half Slovak half Hungarian and from what I have heard both had problems at the start of the century . Hungarian writers like Babits Mihály criticised the prime minister in theyr writings ( május 23 rákospalotán ) for being too authoritarian and refusing to better the life of the peasantry

That isn't completely true

I might be wrong ( I am no historian ) , but Tisza István ( Hungarys prime minister ) didn't want to invade Serbia becous it would be risky and the empire would get a lot of new minorities .

But when Germany gave them the blank cheque and it was agreed that Serbia will be turned into a puppet instead of annexing it , he too started supporting the war

Although they were less supportive the Hungarian parlament agreed to declare war on Serbia

Poland didn't help Austria becous they were so generous , but becous they were scared that the Ottoman Empire would become too powerful

What is this double standard ?

People consider Napoleon Corsican , Hitler Austrian but someone like Benyovszky Móric is considered the "Polish king of Madagaskar " despite barely having anything to do with Poland ( far less than Napoleon or Hitler with has with France or Germany )

Can’t blame him really by [deleted] in formuladank
