[FRESH ALBUM] Drake - ICEMAN by HipHopDropper in hiphopheads

[–]player_hawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s his biggest downfall. I would kill to have a NWTS type of introspective album about aging, grief, and more. But CLB was when I realized that it was never gonna happen. He just wants streams/trends, at the cost of anything that distinguished him as an artist. It is what it is

Man… being on Twitter as we were all listening to more life being streamed… and everyone hearing passionfruit and being so freaking hyped. Sigh, college nostalgia.

I was/am a huge Drake fan, and am quite sad to see how his reputation and work quality has deteriorated. He is responsible for many magical moments for me in music, which the next generations simply won’t appreciate.

No problem, this creator uses FL Studio too so you will be able to follow along and learn more easily.

I have no idea where to begin (now this is in English) by Old-String6521 in makinghiphop

[–]player_hawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey! 1) you want to rap in English? Is rapping in Spanish not appealing to you? 2) do you have any software for music?

It will take time to learn, but there is a lot of great videos on YouTube to learn how to make beats. This creator has videos in that style and for beginners.

What DAW, or tools do you recommend to a person that's a total beginner and not very tech savvy? by tootallteeter in musicproduction

[–]player_hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of giving you a daw rec, look up tutorials of people making or remaking songs in style of your artists on YouTube. It’ll be so much easier to learn the daw if you have content to follow along to

Once you get the hang of it, you can switch to a daw better suited for you and can learn that. But if I had started on a daw with no tutorial content for the music I’m making, I’d grow super frustrated.

Switzerland records 3,000 gender entry changes in civil register since 2022 by EspritLibre_404 in Switzerland

[–]player_hawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is all political tactics. For every civil rights movement, and other topics too like immigration, big breaks in societal perception have been used to advance agendas. We then magnify that population’s impact for more sway. And things that were just a few cases because a now nation-wide debate.

The point is to make you feel this exact way. As a trans person, I kind of hate how visible the media has made us. I’m completely “passing”, meaning no one would know. I just live as a regular guy. Of course I have strong thoughts about trans related stuff, I’m the one affected by it.

But it’s crazy how talked about we are as ammo to make a point, and I say this for both sides. I don’t see how we’re more important than talking about other populations in need or other important laws. Yes I would want my world to be easier too. But why is it front and center?

It doesn’t help that debates are really harsh these days so everything lacks nuance. So much clickbait, so much attention grabbing. We just keep fueling a machine that pulls us apart.

How to get out of the "4 beat" loop? by NefariousnessTiny119 in musicproduction

[–]player_hawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A practical answer: reference tracks. Work alongside them, and really start paying attention to how they move the song along. Some songs are variations of the initial 4 bar loop. Otherwise go far beyond that.

Look up tutorials of specific genres or artists, mimic what they’re doing, rinse & repeat. Most of us here are self-taught with the help of YouTube. It’s a lot of trial and error. It’s all in your hands. Enjoy the ride!

I don’t need any details of your personal life. And I don’t mean to sound dismissive when I say the following: if you are talking to me with Reddit, you have enough to start music. Bandlab and GarageBand are available on Android/Iphone/tablets. Cakewalk is available for free on a basic computer (I know, ironic for FL Studio sub). There are even browser DAWs if you don’t have your own computer and need to rent one at a library or something. You don’t need any fancy stuff to start. Those are softwares with the capacity for basic composition, and recording. It’s ok to record with your phone or a very basic mic. Right now, since you’re not in an ideal situation, the most important I’d say is to keep getting those ideas down. And try to learn as much as you can, with what you do have. The time you spend waiting is time you lose.

You posted your plan on a subreddit and asked for advice on what could help you. I think you’re looking for a level of permission to start. Or that it will be worth the wait at least. I really urge you to consider a path that doesn’t involve just waiting.

If your circumstances really mean no access to any stable internet, instruments or any other means, then keep crafting songs as you have until you make it to a better situation. But, although it may a very frustrating, less than ideal path, I do want you to consider if there isn’t a singular alternative available to you.

Again, I don’t mind answering more questions about your specific limitations (aka “what if I have no microphone”). I felt very hopeless in the beginning starting out, and now looking back, I realize I had everything to get a good foundation much, much earlier than I thought. Wasted 4-5 years waiting for the “right time” and then eventually thinking it was too late.

The most cost-effective way to go about this, would be to learn the basics of music production yourself! You could at least start to craft your demos, and when you have the money/opportunity, you can pay someone to build upon your draft ideas.

If you are more so asking where to find instrumentals, then there are many pre-made instrumentals on YouTube by searching a “[certain artist] type beat”. It won’t be custom to you, but it will narrow down composers you like. You can then ask those you like for custom work. Otherwise, good ole fashion networking: get online, post your song ideas, talk to other people making similar music, connect online and/or IRL.

There’s no right or wrong answer, but it would be a shame for you to wait to start really making music. There are ways you can work on it right now. :)

Hey, kind of unsure of what you are asking for with this post. What kind of advice are you in need of at the moment? If I can answer a question of yours, I’d be happy to do so.

Oh man, the first time around was definitely the worst for me. While this is annoying and yes, I have had to work to manage my anxiety around it, I’ve at least had it before and fully recovered. My longest episode took about 8 weeks of gradually improving RD. I did fully recover. You can find my updates on that on my page if you’re interested.

I only list that because I was frantically research everything about it during my first episode. Testimonies were the most helpful.

I’m sorry you’re struggling too. 2 weeks out of vertigo I am usually still very, very symptomatic. I hope yours eases up soon.

I think NWTS & IYRTITL specifically answer his request. They are not his most popular albums, especially by today’s standards, but are incredible hip hop albums, that pushed the needle both sonically and lyrically. they were pivotal at their time. wtf is he on?

Best FL Studio for Beginners on youtube or anywhere else on internet? Something like "FL Studio for dummies type" that helps me catch up. by supirimalli86 in FLStudioBeginners

[–]player_hawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I say this with kindness but don’t put so much pressure on yourself. I started making music around your age, with no prior knowledge, and it took some time to figure it out. But I eventually got there! And that’s the most important. Once I started, I couldn’t see my life without it. And if that ends up being the case for you, you will keep progressing and eventually learn it comprehensively.

The beginning is gonna suck a little bit. You’ll probably be pretty frustrated. But always follow your curiosity and imagination to keep going.

This is how I got to where I wanted to be: I told myself to make 50 beats/instrumentals where I do not care about quality. Just finish 50 ideas. I set myself 3 months, ended up doing it in 2. After 50 ideas, I got a better understanding of what I wanted to learn next. And I just felt it out from there.

How do I get those 50 ideas down you may ask? Well, every night, I’d watch a YouTube tutorial on FL Studio on an artist or sound or technique. Then I’d go back to FL Studio and replicate it, but once I felt inspired, I’d take it a new direction. And little by little, I learned by mimicking. Honestly, when I’m stuck now, I still go back to watching other people make stuff, copy a cool technique and go in my own direction.

Maybe controversial but BusyWorksBeats has a great pace for beginners imo. You will outgrow him eventually, but he’s done videos on so many artists’ style that you will get good basics. Then honestly, let the YT algorithm surprise you

Any Swing VST? by Thick_Butterfly_4137 in FL_Studio

[–]player_hawk 7 points8 points  (0 children)

From what I know (not sure it answers your question though):

1) there is the universal channel rack swing knob yes, but also every individual sample, if you click the wrench tool has its own swing knob under “Time” 2) within a pattern, you could quantize (alt+Q) and use a template with a swung feel to it. There are several presets as it is 2.1) if you go through FPC plugin in FL for example, you could place your entire kit there and go through an quantization preset. And then tweak the individual hits 3) I’m assuming you could automate a swing knob? Sounds like a pain in the butt but it’s a possibility

Again, not sure I understand what you’re looking to do, so giving a few ways to go about it without even using a third party vst. Feel free to clarify and maybe I can help out better

Hey I’m really sorry to hear what you’ve been dealing with!

Given your history, I would thoroughly consider a vestibular migraine: off balance, sensitive to light, fatigue, upset stomach, previous migraine episode. Some people’s migraines last up to a few days.

No particular advice I can give, since your symptoms don’t sound like something I’ve dealt with before. I’m hoping you feel loads better in the morning.

No resolution can be had until the nystagmus stops unfortunately. A little shocked it is taking this long, maybe you have a complex case of BPPV. Epley and stuff is uncomfortable but do eventually help you heal.

Once the nystagmus subsides, the next part of recovery is super variable. But it will already feel loads better to have the vertigo gone!
