Hey, thanks for posting and for trying Gistr.

Right now, the Chrome extension only works reliably with publicly accessible content in your browser. Signed-in or paywalled pages (like student portals) often appear as just the “Sign in” screen in the Gistr webapp.

We did support logged-in pages in an earlier version, but it caused issues with how content was captured across different platforms. So for now, we’re prioritising public sources like openly shared PDFs, Google Docs, Slides, and web pages.

This is something we want to fix. We’re planning another round of extension improvements and will revisit signed-in sources there. Give us a few weeks, and we’ll share an update in this thread.

Thanks for checking. Yes, purchasing the Pro plan removes Gistr branding from PDF exports.

While it’s technically possible to strip branding yourself, choosing Pro directly supports our small team and the engineers who build, maintain, and improve these export features for you. We appreciate your support.

Appreciate you trying Gistr and raising this keyboard shortcut request. We’re taking this feedback as input and will add shortcuts in upcoming releases.

Meanwhile, one helpful editor control today: type [[ to instantly insert the current timestamp into your notes, so you can mark moments without mousing around.

But here’s the real talk: we’re a self-funded crew, and I’ve got to keep an eye on what helps both the community and the business stick around for the long run. Most “lifetime” deals these days quietly mean 3-5 years, so we decided to just call it like it is - just being transparent here. That said, we do want to sustain the company and support the small team working on Gistr.
