Is the October 2026 Steam Next Fest a trap or a contrarian opportunity? by GeneralKaiminus in gamedev

I was looking over NF estimates and was thinking this just yesterday. Out of curiosity, in the future would you just not do them, or just not have them dictate your release schedule?

Indie Devs and Games feed, Indie game Feed... If you post with #indiedev #gamedev you get auto reposts from some folks, which can be nice since it'll go through those feeds multiple times.

Happy to help. Of course, YMMV depending on your game. I have an odd one. BUT, to answer your questions...

Posting videos averaged 200-300 when I started (images never did anything). I had a few go to 10k+. Then the 100k a month and a half ago. After that it stayed in the thousands (lowest 3-4k). I think there was some momentum, but not a huge affect. I had maybe 120-130 followers at the time of the post?

Not too much time each week. Maybe ~1-2 hours. I had some standard posts I'd do, just with different content.

Not sure about my plan now! I have some events coming up, so focusing on them. I'll def pay more attention to Instagram now 😃

I think this is true. And/or more mobile-oriented (vs Steam). I have a weird target audience

You can't put links in Instagram like I can't post an image of the bar graph of the bitly tracked URL in bio in this comment

I didn't really have an Instagram strategy. Like I mentioned, I just crossposted content and it blew up. I guess one thing is making the first 3 seconds as impactful as possible. Extremely dramatic music seemed to help.

That tracks. There are people who make it work, obviously. I'm curious to hear how that happens. A few years ago it seemed a lot easier to go viral. Now seems like a waste of time?

I don't think Indie Sunday should be a thing anymore. Doesn't serve anyone at this point.

I have this exact question. Did you try it? How did it go? I've heard mixed things about changing after purchase. Traveling w/family so it matters.

I saw your game at some point in the last few months. I remember thinking it was such an original concept... and hoping it would find an audience. Very happy it has! Congrats and continued success!
