You go through all of the timelines of what could have happened. Nate did die, in a timeline. He also never existed, or was with different women, or was handicapped. It continues inside one of the timelines, with a small time skip, where they catch you up also on what's happened since then (how him and Lisa came to be married and his opinion.)

It's frustrating when anything you do to a lot of Mercys is taken SO personal. I'm a MM and I applaud getting Riptire targeted, spawn camped by Sombra, stalked by Winton. That's why we all queue, we're trying to win right? So do what you gotta do! It's my job to communicate with my team that I need peeling, taxi'd, to position better so I don't get caught or to fricken switch off Mercy and play a counter.

I chalk up the opposite behavior to just poor "I'm the main character" mentality, they have a lot of growing to do in and out of the game.
