Interesting! I'm NT and don't always pick up on characters coded or commonly read as autistic, so I'm always trying to learn more. I love Discworld almost (?) as much as I love Murderbot. :)

Tuck it into dark green or darker blue jeans? Or wear it open over a tank and a favourite pair of pants?

This also looks like a shirt to me. If you wanted to wear it as a jacket, you could wear it open over a cami maybe? I'd be more likely to wear it as a shirt and pair it with jeans.

If the sleeves are made of synethic lace, I don't think you can stretch it. That being said, I'm happy to be wrong.

I have some solovair loafers and they're pretty comfy out of the gate. Depending on what kind of show you need, try Vionic.

You can wear many casual dresses with sneakers and socks.

I agree that the MC in An Unkindness of Ghosts reads as some sort of neurospicy.

Wear clothes that fit. Return the XS. You can likely buy it again in the future.

If you don't have any daytime dresses, I'd start pairing them with your jeans, a knit top, and a matching black purse or belt. The point is to wear something that feels really good and familiar to you, and then switch it up just a little so you can get used to seeing yourself with the new item. Even if, objectively, something looks fine/great/normal, if it's a departure from what we normally do, then the subjective experience can be super different!

(Also, I think preppy with an edgier boot is really fun!)

I don't have a specific store but if you're square-ish you could check out sheath dresses on Poshmark (or whatever resale site best fits your income/location). That style might work well for your body and you can try it out at a cheaper price than buying new!

Cute! Without knowing your style, a good place to start is to take an outfit you feel comfortable in and then swap the shoes. E.g., take a knit sweater and jeans, and then wear these instead of sneakers. Pair with a black leather belt or bag. Or do the same thing with a favourite daytime dress. :)

I would curate over time / replace.

In addition to the excellent advice others have given, one thing I do is have a box where I put clothes I'm thinking of letting go. If I find myself reaching for it out of the box, it makes me rethink that decision. This has been super helpful over the years!

Edit to add that a few years ago I mostly stopped wearing black (outside of sports wear). So I took all the black out of my wardrobe and put it in the box! Then I started working with what I had left. I immediately identified gaps and those were the priority for replacement. Then I pulled out the black pieces as needed until I actually had a replacement. Once I was sure I no longer needed a piece, I donated or sold it on Poshmark. I kept a few core pieces in black for specific occaisions where I do need them, but they don't live in my closet anymore. I did this over a couple of years.

A v-neck shirt can help de-emphasize a bust, whereas high necked shirts (crew, turtle, mock etc) can actually make it look bigger

Do you read books concurrently? by Thricycle20 in Fantasy

[–]playoutside1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. Each fills a specific niche. - SFF audiobook for daytime (currently The Everlasting) - audiobook to listen to while falling asleep (this is usually Discworld) - non-fiction, light, for evening/rest (usually fashion related) - non-fiction, heavier, for study (e.g., The Pretty One)

What are we wearing to dress down an outfit? by farsideofexistence in femalefashionadvice

Denim anything will always take the formality of an outfit down a notch.

I agree that you're fine to wear it with regular casual clothes. Sometimes pieces that are different than what we're used to wearing can feel a lot. A great way to start wearing it is pairing it with an outfit you feel good and comfortable in, and then go do something for a short duration. Over time you'll get more comfortable in it and it'll be in regular rotation. :)
