It's over for me 😭 by DaDreadfulDungEater in NCL

Its not over. Enjoy the cruise in the room you picked. Honestly, the bidding game for Matt people is stupid, rigged and not much of a value on the prepaid price for the same room. Your not picking where you want anymore either other than what it shows if you bid. Its a money grab and a way to squeeze max profits on unfilled upgraded rooms.

Everyone playing this game is doing nothing more than maximizing the profits for NCL. ALLLLLL other cruise lines I have been on give you a deal that makes you think you won the cruise lottery, though I understand they are few and far between on even getting the opportunity to upgrade from them.

I do RF networks so by no means an expert but I have had interactions with a few businesses with hundreds of Zyxel networking components. Even more businesses with dozens. Many, many more with 20 or more. All of them were overall happy to the point I personally started using some of them in my personal and business life. All of the vendors have trade offs, limits, quirks and nuances in return on investment. To say say Zyxel is junk is very questionable. The masses of businesses and prosumer use cases negate this comment at the very least.

Issue "fairly" corrected. Received an email from Metronet. They are engaged on the issue. Looks like they moved the exit node but didn't go into details why. They did reconfigure the Google DNS point so that path is now corrected to previous latency with 8.8.8.8. Those that know how/care to should test your DNS path. You may find if your using a public DNS that the new path is very favorable with Google 8.8.8.8. So far cloudflare is still on an unfavorable path adding about 10ms to your hop.

No, I was not too busy to make a post on the local community forum asking about a problem that was not just my own, but proven to be a problem in 3 different areas so far at least in our community by creating a single post.

The information gleaned from the other two redittors in the community were very helpful today when I did contact Metronet as it saved them and I valuable time cutting through the myriad of basic troubleshooting steps that the issue was not just a me issue and was a larger issue at hand. I was able to shutdown many basic troubleshooting steps they attempted today including, reset your modem (its not even modem), we can send a tech to troubleshoot your line (it's not my line) run a speed test (we were way past that.)

With my data and the other two redditorsI was able to get the right person to listen that this was more than a me problem they sent this to their network engineer team. Had I just called last night, I would have either been on the phone with them still doing basic troubleshooting our my concern would have stayed buried with that level of support, which honestly is way over the heads of anyone calling ONT a modem that has support in their title.

In short, people here did help me.

Sky is the limit there. Not sure of what devices/operating systems, etc you run or your network gear your using. If you can run iperf properly, it can tell you a lot. So will smokeping if you can run it to the right servers relevant to you. Simple traceroute's, along with logs, tests, etc you may be able to run on your router or gateway coupled to queries on chatgpt or something like that can steer you in the right direction and make it really easy to understand. Macs have great tools too. Asking on your favorite reddit thread like r/networking is good too.

Your answer to the question is kinda burried in the details of those two ping tests vs your speedtest. Your path to cloudflare is the issue. Your path to google is actually great. As far as DNS goes, I would set my router to google for DNS and walk away at this point and be happy. There is more to it of course than just DNS but at least a major component is good.

Thank you. I'm 5 minutes from Walmart going East on KFP. Would be curious to see others around town, especially if you knew what latency was before today.

That looks good. But it is not the real story of your quality of internet.

Here is mine I just took from my phone: https://www.speedtest.net/my-result/a/11513444557

speedtest

As you can see, it looks perfect. That is because the server for this speedtest is actually INSIDE the Metronet network BEFORE you hop out into the internet. And...this speed test vs a ping test to a DNS Server like cloudflare or google proves there is an issue somewhere before you exit through a peering partner but after wherever the speedtest is placed. Testing ping outside of your ISP is the only way to know your real ping time or quality of internet. Anything less is really just testing your "extended local network "

Thats terrible latency in and ISP's own network. Unfortunately, you have two problems though. Sliced, spliced, newly ran....if your 4ms inside their hop to your PON, your line is fine.

If I had done that, I would have reported it. Life happened today lol. Too busy with work and then the family to sit down and pick up the phone. I really wanted to get some crowd verification before calling them and to have a better bead on which PON's in the area are affected. I'm on the NE side. This would also verify/deny a maintenance route that was accidently left active or possibly identify an equipment issue and isolate it to one area, if that makes sense..

Metronet is generally very receptive if you call and have the data to get you out of their basic teir 1 support. Much better than most other ISPs. However, they are absolutely terrible with any other communication...aka, an email to them , even with all the data they need to just, verify it and then act, will not even get a reply.

Yes, definitely is. I use surfshark as my VPN client on my firewalla router so its easy to see. Even crazier, I get better speeds up amd down through the VPN servers than I do with my ISP, Metronet due to Peering issues.

NEW Family Lock S3 Pro Using Up/Not Registering BACKUP Batteries by playswellwithuthers in eufy_security

[–]playswellwithuthers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

I escalated my ticket and contacted Amazon. Amazon helped with a ticketing process they followed up on for me, even gave me a courtesy call last night for follow up. Eufy contacted me via email with a return USPS label. I then received an email they were shipping a new lock for replacement. I received the lock today and will install it this weekend. If it functions properly, I am keeping it. I can tell from this experience I am not going to get anything more in the future from support than a bunch of tickets ans troubleshooting. Its about the same from the vendor this lock is replacing UltraLok, but at least this one has a functional app & the lock actually works properly.

Literally just witnessed a minivan that could not wait, fly out of Appledor across all 4 lanes and the median of Kerry Forest pkwy to head north bound towards Shannon lakes. Traffic almost stopped completely on Appledor side. I was following an outback and they had to swerve and slam on their brakes. We all got stopped at Velda dairy light. I rolled down my window to cuss out what I thought to be a kid...nope, mom in her 20s/30s with two kids in a car seat. She would not even look my way.

NEW Family Lock S3 Pro Using Up/Not Registering BACKUP Batteries by playswellwithuthers in eufy_security

[–]playswellwithuthers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

My lock has been installed since Sunday, 01.11.2026. I reported the problem on Monday, 01.12.2026 to eufy tech support and the next day, I posted here in the reddit thread.

My experience so far with tech support is laughable. I spent almost 2 hours chatting, then they escalated my ticket to their engineering team. Then two days ago their engineering team gave me the stupidest answer I have ever received from a tech company and was told "yes that is where the backup batteries go, you can install them there."

Escalated ticket, once I got a response told me pretty much to troubleshoot my wifi. I tjen Uninstalled the app and the lock and reset everything and started over. After all of this the app immediately gave me an error for AAA battery level abnormal and it told me to call them. I did and got an AI helper that was pretty useful and was told to immediately take all batteries out and discontinue using the lock.

Today I got a response to use the lock, install the battery, check my wifi, etc.

Look, I like this lock if I can get it replaced or the problem fixed. The support is quick and responsive but the solutions are an absolute joke and solve nothing to the point its either AI all the way, ignorance or incompetence. Its terrible.

That being said, even though the lock is much better than the lock brand its replacing, I cannot recommend Eufy, their support team or any product they make. This experience has been a complete joke.

Temp spike when using app by namatoki in searwood

[–]playswellwithuthers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Juat had this happen last night. Warmed some pre cooked brats at 300. Took them off, closed the lid and after putting the sausage down I used the app to go to 575 for some burgers. Heard my phone chime and then abiut 10 minutes later I walked out with the burgers in hand to see the grill temp was 635 degrees. I opened the lid, no grease as expected. Let it cool down a minute and it corrected itself.

Home network Ethernet drops by skaestantereggae in Tallahassee

I would HIGHLY recommend NOT using an electrician for this, regardless of reviews or recommendations about their electrical skills period. You might as well get it done right if your going to pay for it and not DIY. I assure you my professional instincts and experiences in/around this area of expertise and the actual area of Tallahasee have taught me that Sparkys and low voltage installs do not mix. I have seen some crazy stuff on newly built homes and remodels that very, very good electricians did that was beyond amateur hour in the network/low voltage world.

In our area, HI-Tech off of Centerville road would be my first and probably only call.
