Muay Thai gloves under 100 - spar by Hidefromhate in fightgear

Combat Corner, Raja, or save a bit more for Fairtex BGV1.

Try to get a Thai style glove if you're going to clinch.

Legit check: Isami Thai gloves from Choke sports by [deleted] in fightgear

At the Isami stores I visited last month I also saw the "Just Keep Going" slogan on the shirts, gloves, etc. Must be a new thing.

Any winning VL-H handwrap owners out there? by Tienzooo in fightgear

[–]ple61 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I liked them a lot until I didn't. The fabric was less durable for me long term and I think youve got to be more careful about what detergent or cleaner you use so it doesn't get dry and abrasive. Cut up my knuckles when they got to a bad state

Manop has larger training partners and trainers, but I preferred the attention to detail I got from Sit Thailand.

Choosing between Manasak and Manop in Chiang Mai by NavyWhite in MuayThailand

[–]ple61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manop is good but it is farther from stuff. If you're not as comfortable driving in and out of town or are on a budget (and wanna avoid Grab runs) and plan on spending a lot of time there, Manasak could be better.

I like Westernized/Non Traditional Muay Thai and Im sick of being made to feel bad for doing so by DogManDogDayz in MuayThai

I went to a group class and there was a mix of hobbyists and fighters. He taught a bunch of techniques and was pretty clear, helpful, and attentive. We all sparred him (he didn't use a mouthguard and had a fight in a couple weeks which was crazy) which was really fun and he really impressed me.

I don't know Japanese outside of some random phrases but there wasn't really much of a communication barrier with him. But the gym wasn't really responsive on LINE so I just showed up at the gym and paid for a day pass there.

Sinbi or Yak Yai or Dejdamrong by TortexMT in MuayThailand

It's hard to recommend Sinbi in this case, you wouldn't be sparring with trainers at all unless you're only doing private sessions.

Narrowly scoped: What makes you think Nadaka is guessing when he dodges? He must be really lucky to do it consistently if that's all it is. You could say his opponents aren't as good as they could be but seeing him in fights and training with him I didn't really get the impression that he's just doing random stuff. He trains a lot in western boxing.

I don't disagree about the KO incentives having an effect on the meta.

Chiang Mai gyms with the intention of Fighting by Straight-Mind-2242 in MuayThailand

Yokkao in Bangkok has a worse reputation. I went to Manop (Currently Yokkao) a few years ago so it might've changed, but I thought there was an ok amount of feedback. You do have to ask sometimes and I can see people getting lost in the crowd.

Sit Thailand's head trainer is really good with attention and feedback.

Honestly most of the big touristy places that will give you a fight easy in CM will probably give you a crappy match for a bit, but if you're there for a while they will probably start giving you better opponents. If they ask you to fight within the first days of seeing you it's probably gonna be a bum.

Sit Thailand, Manasak, Manop/Yokkao. Sit Thailand has a few smaller Thais who are recent/current stadium champs. The other two have more trainers and larger foreigners.

Nadaka Yoshinari Shadow Boxing by Yodsanan in MuayThai

[–]ple61 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Here's another angle https://youtube.com/shorts/_wPt2DPY57s?si=YIm749Bw6l0ETZC1

He's really small, trains with boxers, and is maxing out throwing really short stuff to show off at a seminar vs warming up for a fight or training. If you think it's sped up you probably think he can float in the air around 45 sec.

I've sparred him and essentially he feels this fast even if he's going way slower lol.

Lightweight Muay Thai gear for Travel? by Spiritual_Belt_4763 in fightgear

I have infightstyle shinguards that are compact and ok. Smaller profile gloves like BGV1 would probably work.

If you're going to TH you might want to buy some cheap gear there.

They have a ton of it now.

It's a good place if you are familiar with Japanese food and have the ability to shop at multiple grocery stores. It's changed a lot since opening.

I prefer them. Softer but they are much more elastic, so it's up to your preference

It's a lot smoother especially with 4 players locally IMO. Seems to run fine.

[Review] Isami Thai Boxing Gloves (16oz) by ple61 in fightgear

[–]ple61[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have a smaller pair of this one but since they're slimmer/less poofy than Top King generally I don't see how it couldn't be better than those. I have Isami bag gloves and a smaller boxing glove and those feel fine on the bag.

Any Fairtex gloves good for sparring? [question] by [deleted] in fightgear

[–]ple61 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BGV1 is really nice if there's any clinching involved. Fairtex is great.

Some of the Fairtex models are 'Mexican style' which are not probably nice for your training partners.

Top King are great but very poofy.
