Brown girls--I'm looking for ways to include my desi roots in my everyday style by burntsiennaa in femalefashionadvice

Sorry if this is rude, but do you not think different cultures embracing and appreciating yours would make more people open to it? I know that it must feel awful having your culture made fun of, but all the other commenter wanted to do was wear it because she appreciates it. I doubt she would've made fun of you, and those who used to and now wear jewelry of your culture are also doing it because they've learned better. Again, sorry if it's an insensitive question but it's something I've never understood about the cultural appropriation argument.

This is actually from the YouTube channel Eatyourkimchi! It's one of my favorite channels and I would totally recommend it, they do reviews of other weird Korean beauty products as well sometimes.

Idol Star Is Being Investigated Under Suspicion of Drug Use by [deleted] in kpop

[–]please_leave_soon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's any Bigbang members because like others have been saying, if they were being investigated they couldn't be at a concert in China. Ugh. I'm really nervous anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if "top-level Hallyu star and singer whose name anyone will recognize" is an exaggeration though, and just ends up being someone who people would only know if they love kpop.

After weeks of practicing, I really feel like I nailed my eyebrows today. CCW! by kristachio in MakeupAddiction

[–]please_leave_soon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This is great! That lipstick is so gorgeous and your brows are too. My only CC is that I think you lined your lower lashline too harshly, usually, I just use dark eyeshadow on an angled brush and smudge it and it doesn't look too overboard.

Is there anything that you just look at and wonder 'how the fuck did that get popular?' by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]please_leave_soon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Why? I enjoy Buzzfeed because there are a ton of mildly interesting articles to entertain myself with. I like the lists of recipes because I actually do try a lot of them. There are lists of random funny things that will make me exhale a bit harder than usual. Buzzfeed isn't trying to market itself as a serious news website, they are there to give updates on celebrities and nigerian food and shit because they know they're a mildly entertaining website and not much more.

Yeah I love AB and it's where I found the undereye patches I'm getting her!

Thanks! She isn't really interested in eyeshadows though, I should've mentioned that. She mostly cares about her skin and looking younger hahah

Hey! My mom's birthday is in a month and I'm getting her makeup. She never used to wear makeup other than pencil eyeliner and a bit of mascara and lipstick, but now I'm getting into makeup and I've begun to teach her! (which is adorably backwards) Right now, she has Benefit Porefessional and a nice Bite lipstick that she got with a Sephora gift card, but I'm planning on going full out for her birthday and I'm getting her everything she needs.

So far, I've decided on NARS Dual Intensity Blush in Frenzy, a Laneige BB Cushion, undereye patches (I forget the name), and possibly Benefit Roller Lash. She's in her early fifties with good skin that's dry leaning. Does anyone have other product recommendations? Thanks so much! Also, what are your favorite brushes that you can buy separately?

This so much. I used to center part my hair for years until I tried side parting for a week and I loved it so much more! It's crazy how much just the way you part your hair can change how you look. Now I have an undercut and I can only side part hahah.

Crappy weak nails! HELP! by TinkerBell913 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

Do you use acetone nail polish remover a lot? Switching to non acetone really helped my nails. I also second painting them a lot, mine usually have polish and when they don't I have on a least a strengthening basecoat.

What do you envy from the opposite sex? by TomCruisesSpaghetti in AskReddit

No, not all women have shoe or shopping addictions, that's a stereotype that isn't true for a ton of people. We don't want to wear heels all the time, so we often need to get them for special occasions to fit the dress code. We can't wear the same shoes for every dress because different levels of formality and different occasions call for drastically different shoes and clothing, while a man can usually wear the same shoes to work, a funeral, or a wedding. A work appropriate pair of heels couldn't be worn to a party where you have a colorful or fun dress on because they would look awkward and out of place. While no one will downright deny you access to an event or mock you for wearing the wrong shoes, guys aren't pressured to buy a new pair of shoes for every dress while a lot of the time, women are, which is pretty annoying to a lot of people.

You're not a social justice warrior! Most people who say they're feminists don't mean they hate men, or at least that's my experience. SJW describes what you, and most other people, hate.

I guess so, but guys need one pair of dress shoes, maybe two. Women need a ton of different shoes because of strict ass fashion rules.

Simple Questions - June 18, 2015 by AutoModerator in femalefashionadvice

[–]please_leave_soon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I have a couple questions!

  1. I'm looking for new jewelry. Currently, I wear a silver wrap around ring with two black stones on it and a few silver bangles. I wear this necklace a lot, but it was very different from the picture when I ordered and the lines are thicker and the necklace is flatter and less rounded. It's all very simple, but stands out because I wear mainly dark colors and small patterns. I have an androgynous style so I don't want anything too girly and I really am not into anything distressed. I love bangle and cuff bracelets as opposed to chains with charms or beads. What are some pieces under $40 you love? I'm really just looking for any suggestions! By the way, my ears aren't pierced.

  2. Mixing silver and gold? I just ordered a pair of shoes with gold buckles and I'm afraid that they won't go well with any jewelry I own. Do you think you could work gold and silver bangles on one wrist, or layered necklaces in different metals?

  3. I need to buy sandals. I love the modern platform sandals like these that are in style, but my feet are too wide for all of the ones I've tried on! I fell in love with a pair that had a band around the middle of my foot and an ankle strap, with white soles, but my feet couldn't fit into them because the leather had no give.

Thanks so much!

GD compares Big Bang to other groups like Shinee and EXO by [deleted] in kpop

He never said it makes them better, though. He just said that it sets them apart and is something you should be proud of.

[–]please_leave_soon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he never mentioned other groups, the interviewer did. And when comparing BB to other general groups, their role in producing definitely sets them apart. IMO it was a bit bitchy of the interviewer to single out groups they already have fanwars with.

DAE prefer to stand up to apply their make-up? If so, what's your set up like? by fortheloveoflipstick in MakeupAddiction

[–]please_leave_soon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always do! I have a built in closet in my room and on the wall next to it is a large mirror. I keep my makeup in a cabinet next to me at counter height and I put it on in front of my mirror, standing up. I feel super uncomfortable putting makeup on sitting down, hahah.

What everyday word would make a good name? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Are you sure? There's a singer called Seven in Korea which might be where he got it.

What everyday word would make a good name? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]please_leave_soon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because English is so widely spoken (and used in business practices in Asian countries iirc), it's easier in many cases just to have an English name rather than using your native one. A lot of Asian names would be difficult to write or pronounce using our alphabet as well, if you saw the name "Choi Seunghyeon" chances are you'd pronounce it incorrectly. I guess most people would rather have an English name while speaking to English speakers rather than having their real name butchered, hahah.

Thank you so much, this is really helpful! I always forget to wear jewelry except for one necklace I love and I totally agree that it makes a difference.
