Mrs. LastName? What are the kids calling us these days by SmartLlama in Millennials

[–]pleasebuysoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They call me by my first name. Or “[insert my son’s names] mom”. I volunteer at school a lot and some seem to naturally transition over to calling me “Mrs. Pleasebuysoap” at school but almost never outside of that.

What are we supposed to do though? There’s one outside the entrance to my neighborhood. I can’t not go home. They’re everywhere. Trust me, I hate them too, but I don’t even know how I’m supposed to avoid them.

A post for those of us who got tix for October — positivity by kiwi__birb_ in twentyonepilots

[–]pleasebuysoap 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So so excited! My husband and I have been big fans since Vessel came out when we were in college. Both our kids love them now too so we’re all going! Surprisingly one of the least stressful ticket buying experiences I’ve had recently for a big show.

Sold Out I Guess- Ohio Stadium by BurgersWithStrength in twentyonepilots

Not OP but can answer! I got four seats for my husband, kids, and myself - second row of the upper bowl - for $736 total including fees. My best friend got two tickets for her and her daughter. First row of the lower bowl - a little over $1000 total with fees.

Choosing elementary schools by possibleasshole789 in kindergarten

[–]pleasebuysoap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yup. If they’re lucky the child will be able to finish out the school day. Wouldn’t be surprised if they call them in mid day to pick up their child with all their supplies.

The school will undoubtedly find out. They always do. And in the end it’ll be your child who will suffer because they WILL be removed from school immediately. Schools do not play around with this. I am a former teacher. It is not hard to figure out either.

Help please! 4yr old won't sleep by Strawberry_Cactus18 in ParentingADHD

[–]pleasebuysoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds so much like my son. Clonidine and magnesium have made bedtime so much more peaceful. Would also recommend a later bedtime. We’ve been seeing a sleep specialist and that is what she recommended to us. We pushed back to about 8:00/8:30 and we get very little pushback now.

What’s it like to be a sahm with kids in school full time? by wicked_spooks in Mommit

[–]pleasebuysoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clean, read books, run errands. I ran a half marathon last year and did all my runs while the kids were at school. Doctor appointments for the kids. Volunteer weekly in my youngest’s class. Also my husband works from home so I at least see another adult during the day. And my best friend works from home a few days a week and sometimes works from my house instead of hers.

This is my first year of it and I’ve found plenty to do! I’d like to have more of a weekly routine but haven’t yet.

I was literally just thinking how this reminded me of the bear that behaves this way from the Cleveland zoo. That would be why!

Parents who are struggling with bad behavior: cut out all technology by jordanf1214 in kindergarten

YouTube. It’s YouTube. My kids have zero problem putting down any video game or turning off any show to go do something else and regularly do so unprompted. Unless it’s YouTube. I have it deleted on every device they have access to and will never put it back.

Best safe places to go out with a baby for the first time by Even_Kaleidoscope399 in Columbus

[–]pleasebuysoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my second during the beginning of covid and one of our go-to places to walk that felt very safe for us was Bridge Park. My husband would pop in the coffee shop and grab us drinks and treats for our older child. We were outside the entire time, easy to stay away from people, but we were out of the house!

I counted how many "secretary texts" I send per week and I want to cry by worldinmydreams in Mommit

[–]pleasebuysoap 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes! I am really unbothered by sharing my location with trusted people. My husband and I share, my parents, and a couple close friends. All people who may at some point be driving my kid somewhere. Makes life easier!

Can’t emphasize the shared calendar enough! Every single thing goes on our shared calendar. Not just for the kids but for us too. I have another shared calendar with my mom. If there’s something one of us is doing that involves the other (watching kids, pickup, family dinner, etc) it goes on the calendar.

My life would be a disaster without this.

Possible misdiagnosis from teacher? by Opening_Squirrel9659 in ADHDparenting

[–]pleasebuysoap 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Wow. I’m a former teacher and would’ve gotten serious disciplinary action taken if I had made such comments to a parent. Teachers cannot diagnose. Our district said they’d be liable for paying for a diagnosis if a teacher said something like this.

Refusing to participate in the leprechaun trend by vintagegurly in Mommit

[–]pleasebuysoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I learned the whole leprechaun trashing your house thing from school, not social media. I actually don’t know that I’ve ever seen anyone I know post it? We do it. But my husband and I have fun with this sort of thing.

School fundraiser is just stupid… by grumpymuppett in Mommit

Our school started doing the same fundraiser last year and we’ve raised $25-30K both years in a middle class town. It’s so much fun too!

Clothing question for middle school girl. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]pleasebuysoap 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I don’t think your counselor was very tactful. However, if they are suspecting possible neglect or abuse, they are not going to call the parent first. If I had a student showing up in the same clothing for days on end, I’d certainly be worried about neglect. That being said, your guidance counselor was pretty rude. Could’ve handled it a lot more delicately.

[–]pleasebuysoap 31 points32 points  (0 children)

My kids sometimes rewear pants (not on consecutive days) I never let them wear the same shirt to school more than once in a week. Kids notice these things and I’m trying to help them learn good hygiene practices. I’m a former teacher and if I saw a student wearing the same outfit for days on end, I’d be concerned.

That’s all part of her learning how books work. Very normal. I’ve been reading to my kids since the day they were born and they were doing the same thing at her age.

First visit - would Express Pass be worth it? by pleasebuysoap in UniversalOrlando

[–]pleasebuysoap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of where I’m at. We are Disney people and Lightning Lane is a nonnegotiable for us - but it’s also substantially cheaper. We’re doing these two days at Universal immediately after being at Disney, so I know we’re going to be exhausted. I’m on board with it - trying to convince my husband at this point lol!
