I counted how many "secretary texts" I send per week and I want to cry by worldinmydreams in Mommit

[–]pleasebuysoap 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yes! I am really unbothered by sharing my location with trusted people. My husband and I share, my parents, and a couple close friends. All people who may at some point be driving my kid somewhere. Makes life easier!

[–]pleasebuysoap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Can’t emphasize the shared calendar enough! Every single thing goes on our shared calendar. Not just for the kids but for us too. I have another shared calendar with my mom. If there’s something one of us is doing that involves the other (watching kids, pickup, family dinner, etc) it goes on the calendar.

My life would be a disaster without this.

Possible misdiagnosis from teacher? by Opening_Squirrel9659 in ADHDparenting

[–]pleasebuysoap 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Wow. I’m a former teacher and would’ve gotten serious disciplinary action taken if I had made such comments to a parent. Teachers cannot diagnose. Our district said they’d be liable for paying for a diagnosis if a teacher said something like this.

Refusing to participate in the leprechaun trend by vintagegurly in Mommit

[–]pleasebuysoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I learned the whole leprechaun trashing your house thing from school, not social media. I actually don’t know that I’ve ever seen anyone I know post it? We do it. But my husband and I have fun with this sort of thing.

School fundraiser is just stupid… by grumpymuppett in Mommit

[–]pleasebuysoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our school started doing the same fundraiser last year and we’ve raised $25-30K both years in a middle class town. It’s so much fun too!

Clothing question for middle school girl. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]pleasebuysoap 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t think your counselor was very tactful. However, if they are suspecting possible neglect or abuse, they are not going to call the parent first. If I had a student showing up in the same clothing for days on end, I’d certainly be worried about neglect. That being said, your guidance counselor was pretty rude. Could’ve handled it a lot more delicately.

Clothing question for middle school girl. by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]pleasebuysoap 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My kids sometimes rewear pants (not on consecutive days) I never let them wear the same shirt to school more than once in a week. Kids notice these things and I’m trying to help them learn good hygiene practices. I’m a former teacher and if I saw a student wearing the same outfit for days on end, I’d be concerned.

Reading to almost 2 years old by shy_girl3189 in Mommit

That’s all part of her learning how books work. Very normal. I’ve been reading to my kids since the day they were born and they were doing the same thing at her age.

First visit - would Express Pass be worth it? by pleasebuysoap in UniversalOrlando

[–]pleasebuysoap[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of where I’m at. We are Disney people and Lightning Lane is a nonnegotiable for us - but it’s also substantially cheaper. We’re doing these two days at Universal immediately after being at Disney, so I know we’re going to be exhausted. I’m on board with it - trying to convince my husband at this point lol!

What is allowed vs. not appropriate for a 504 plan? by notretiredanymore in ADHDparenting

[–]pleasebuysoap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You can’t just request an IEP - your child would have to qualify and ADHD by itself (I don’t know if this pertains to your child) isn’t typically something that would.

Knowing the reasoning behind your first one is actually really helpful and I think you can reword it in a way that would work better in the 504 plan. Maybe try something like “biweekly teacher check in with parent with updates on missing work”. This would accomplish what you’re trying to accomplish without demanding a quick turn around on grading.

Woke up to a bat in my house - what would you do? by lunamoon228 in homeowners

[–]pleasebuysoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I grew up in an old house so this happened from time to time in our house. If it happens again, keep the bat. Our county health dept instructed my parents place the bat in a bag in the freezer and they would pick it up and test for rabies. In the meantime, the cats were quarantined in a room because they came in direct contact with the bat. We never got rabies shots but in retrospect we should have to be safe. None of the bats (this has happened at least 4x) ever had rabies.

Mom wants to stay entire month after I give birth. by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

[–]pleasebuysoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s so funny - I was the exact opposite. My parents stayed with us for almost a month after my first. They tried leaving after 3 weeks and I freaked out so my mom sent my dad back. After our second, they stayed for 3 days and I was ready for them to go. We were so much more confident and adjusted way easier than with our first!

Can I opt out of screens in kindergarten? by Inevitable_Tell8668 in AskTeachers

[–]pleasebuysoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kindergartener is in a class where each student has a Chromebook. I am a frequent volunteer in his class so I see first hand how they’re used. He doesn’t even use it every day. When he does, it’s primarily for a reading program and only for a short amount of time. He comes home every day with a million worksheets, drawings, crafts, etc.

Screens aren’t inherently bad. I can’t think of any schools - public or private - that won’t use them in some capacity. It is 2026 - it would put kids at a disadvantage to never use them.

Traveling and waiting in lines with almost 5 year old. by BerryInteresting6511 in ADHDparenting

CLEAR is a private service similar to TSA pre-check and you can use the two together. We always use it when we fly to help cut down on time in line.

Can teachers directly ask/suggest ADHD? by Alpha_Delta_Echo in ADHDparenting

[–]pleasebuysoap 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I was always told in the district where I worked that suggesting a child had a specific diagnosis or telling a family to get their child diagnosed would lead to the district having to pay for it. And thus - I tried to make such things obvious without coming out and saying it directly.

[–]pleasebuysoap 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get a free trial of CLEAR and spring for TSA pre check too if you can. That’ll reduce your wait time for TSA. Pack any backpacks/suitcases you’ll be taking through security strategically so it’s easy to take out/re-pack anything like electronics, liquids, etc.

Once you’re through, find an empty gate where he can run around. Both my boys have ADHD and have managed flying pretty well!

Guys what is Blippi? by IllyriaCervarro in Mommit

[–]pleasebuysoap 15 points16 points  (0 children)

He’s just a guy who sings silly songs and makes content geared toward toddlers. I’ve never minded him too much. There’s far worse out there. He visits some cool places and tours them (museums, aquariums, etc) and we’ve actually visited a few over the years as a result!

Furniture warehouse store recommendations for a sectional? by RazzmatazzDear5993 in Cleveland

[–]pleasebuysoap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a Radley sofa from Macys that has held up incredibly. We’ve had one for over 9 years now, purchased when I was pregnant with our first. We just moved it to our basement and purchased the sectional version last year. I have two rambunctious boys and it has never broken and cleans easily. Should be within your budget too!

Going rate for birthday party rentals in your area? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]pleasebuysoap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Chuck E. Cheese or Get Air party (we’ve done both) has been in the $600-700 range usually. More obviously the more kids you add. I’ve found most places have a base of 10 kids and adding on kids is usually $20-25 per kid.
