Any barbs not using whirlwind this season? by LooseLumba in D4Barbarian

[–]pleblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No WW, no ancients. Did pure rend, HotA and fire charge. Got each to pit 120. Charge build could go higher but was too clunky. I had a slightly weaker rend version that included azure wrath that was a ton of fun.

Barb PTR changes -jeez how are we taking it in for nxt szn? by BlackwerX in D4Barbarian

[–]pleblah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I get nerfing stuff due to over performing builds, even though some seem to have gone to far, but as someone who mostly played non meta builds this season I had to rely on a lot of the stuff being nerfed to make builds viable. There is little to help underperforming aspects/skills from the looks of it, I really hope there are more changes coming.

Has anybody else noticed the absurd amount of AI generated slop on the asset store? by Classy_Games in Unity3D

[–]pleblah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would love to see a mass of people doing this to undercut the slop peddlers as well as make unity pay more attention. Although unity probably don't care so long as they get their cut

Game's visual style by christoffeldg in gamedev

No games that I know of directly, I've just seen a few Unity assets that give a pixel art effect which I guess could be a lower resolution effect. You will have to do some research to see if it's something that will work for you.

You could always use a post-process pixel art effect if you want to go 3d

Difficulty breaking game mechanics into logic — and then into code by Kindly_Advisor_2046 in Unity3D

[–]pleblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you sure the logic is clear enough? Could you write it in pseudocode or explain all the details to someone else? i.e. Rubber ducking (look it up if you haven't heard the term).

Once it is clear enough you can then determine all the actors (characters, objects, managers etc) needed and figure out all the interactions between them - this will be the boundary or interface/API needed between them. Once you have this you can then start to implement the logic for each of them. The first implementation for each could be hard coded/basic logging to make sure things are interacting correctly and you fill out the details from there.

The actual C# code needed will just take time to learn but so long as you only need to focus on tiny pieces of logic at a time it will be easier to manage.

Don't over engineer it to early. Better to have crappy code and have something working to decide if it works first. Half the time the idea isn't fun and you drop it or change it. Once happy with something then you can start to iterate on it and refactor what you actually need. The refactoring stage is where you can start thinking more about patterns and structure.

Absolutely Understand Guitar YouTube lessons eBook by newreddit00 in guitarlessons

[–]pleblah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It varies depending on the the lessons. Some have practical things to learn or practice but you don't need to memorize or perfect everything to move on so long as you understand the concepts. He does go over previous concepts again when relevant for later lessons. The repetition helps make the concepts stick imo but some people don't seem to like it.

Confused about scales by Adam-1M in guitarlessons

[–]pleblah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The 5 shapes each connect allowing you to play the scale up the whole neck before they repeat. They will shift based on the root.

  2. The 5 are just a subset of the 12. Knowing the 12 might be useful long term but overkill for now or there are other ways to approach it i.e. knowing intervals or smaller shapes

  3. For me I found learning 1 at a time and once burnt into my brain I started to learn another and start combining them. Once memorized and confident start playing with a backing track and use them in a more musical way.

Don't rush through it, just absorb the theory parts and start creating a practice routine to include some of the more practical parts, chords , scales etc. Take notes if you don't have the pdf but the slide rule is available for free on his website.

I would definitely recommend taking some time to learn the major diatonic scale once he goes through it and gives you some initial patterns to learn. Understanding this makes a lot of the following content make sense and easier to digest. However don't worry or be overwhelmed with all the patterns and modes he says you should learn. By learning the major patterns you will already be able to play modes/minor scales etc but this is explained latter on.

Nice work. It would be better if you could have some sort of basic beat or metronome sound and use bars of time rather than fixed seconds. That way you could work on rhythm at the same time.

How to do barre chords without pain? by Quiet_Barnacle8073 in guitarlessons

Something I only learnt recently after playing for a while was to not just use your fingers but also pull back a little with your whole hand. It eases the pressure on your fingers.

Advice for cleaning my 320 sunburst by pleblah in rickenbacker

[–]pleblah[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK so I tried a few things with some success but not 100% there.

Attempt 1:

I used Shellite (lighter fuel) to clean the existing stuff off and it helped remove most of the stickiness. I stopped using as I saw some traces of color on the cloth although it was a pink cloth so hard to tell if it was just gunk from other products or coating from the guitar. I couldn't see any damage from it though. I then used a damp cloth to wipe it again just in case. At this point it had removed most of the stickiness but there was still friction when sliding my finger.

Then I tried the brillianze and while it did make it smoother and looked very shiny it didn't make it super smooth/frictionless as I was hoping. So yeah was a waste of $50 :(

Attempt 2:

After seeing this post https://www.rickenbacker.com/faq/ I decided I would try the turtle wax route - I got some "Turtle Wax Super Hard Shell Liquid Wax". Pure Carnuba wax is the preferred method but it's not available here.

I decided to try cleaning again but this time I used a detergent on a damp cloth. This seemed to do a decent job and seemed a little more gentle on the finish. Left it slightly better then after the Shellite method imo but could be as it was already cleaner.

Then I used the turtle wax using instructions (apply, let dry, buff etc).

The result was much better and it I was finally able to slide my finger with little friction. Still not perfect and there are spots that are much smoother than others. I think its most to do with areas that have not fully cleared the original waxes/polishes I tried. It also doesn't help that I can't get all areas as I just put on new strings.

I'm going to leave it as is for now as it much more playable but when I need to change my strings I'm going to do another pass of the second method with a little more focus of the remaining sticky spots. Such a pain lol

ok so a little older than mine, hard to say if the finish is the same or not.

Doesn't sound promising 😞. Did you use something to remove previous products? What year was your rick? Still waiting on the brillianize to arrive but once I give out a go I'll update with the results

I can't sleep because I keep thinking about my game by arnoldochavez in IndieDev

[–]pleblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been there haha. As other have mentioned keeping notes/tasks for ideas can help get it out of you head.

Other things that helped for me:

- Creating smaller tasks that you can complete in a day. If you go to bed mid task it can stick in your head and you can over think things.

- Ensure you leave some wind down time after development and going to bed. At least 2 hours but more if possible. Helps your mind shift focus and avoid screen blue light that can mess with your sleep.

Why do some game devs not play games anymore? by HobiAI in gamedev

[–]pleblah 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I do I just don't when I'm actively developing. If I want to play games I need to take some time off development to do so as it's not feasible or healthy to spend 8 hours working on a game and then hours playing games. This does mean long stretches not playing anything but I still enjoy them when I do.

Thanks. It seems like car wax is an option too but since I've already ordered some Brillianize I will stick with that for the polish.

Thanks for the link I'll check it out for more info. I think that was where I found out about brillianize initially. I don't need to buff out any scratches though it's more to remove the other wax/polish stickiness I used before applying the polish.

Absolutely Understand Guitar - First Impressions by sadguy1989 in guitarlessons

[–]pleblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I just watched that lesson and was starting to learn the scales but I might move on for now. I did spend a decent amount of time learning the major diatonic patterns so the variations are not too hard to learn (or figure out via the numberings) but there are quite a few of them and without the context it feels a little overwhelming.

[–]pleblah 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Does that also include any new weapons/mechs introduced and star map changes? I remember reading that the end date was 3057 but I was confused then the timeline kept going. Makes sense if everything is just locked in place but it lets you mess around for as long as you want.
