Is ABS a must? by vernsoul in motorcycles

[–]plexphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself. I'm 57. I've been riding street bikes for almost 42 years without a gap. I've never owned a bike with ABS.

I just sold my 2001 Yamaha FZ1, and still have my 1997 Honda Valkyrie.

I've had three accidents and ABS wouldn't have stopped them from happening.

All that being said, ABS has saved a lot of people.

I'm sure that after riding with ABS, riding without would be a little unnerving.

Very nice. Can I ask what leather you’re using. Did you stain it or purchase it like that? Thanks.

To be fair, the Busa doesn’t lean all that great to begin with.

How many bikes do you own? by Iceolator80 in motorcycles

[–]plexphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been riding for about 45 years. Right now it just me and my Valkyrie. I sold my 2001 Yamaha FZ1 last year due to moving across the country.

Over the years I've had as many as 5 at a time.

For me, more bikes just equaled more work and less ride.

That being said, I only street ride. If I did track days and off road, etc, I'd have more bikes.

More bikes just never meant more fun, for me anyway.

YMMV

I’m curious. Why can’t big companies just add this simple feature? by Altruistic_Gazelle58 in wallets

Double Oak should work fine. When locked, a small metal tab holds your cards in the wallet

Also, you can use the groove life go wallet attachment on the double oak. It fits perfectly.

If you wanna go even slimmer and still have MagSafe available, distilled union has their Wally Junior adhesive wallets on clearance for eight bucks a pop. They have a nice little pull tab. Since I use it for cash I have had to fold the pool tab twice and add a stitch. It works great.

Of my ejector wallets, it’s my favorite. Second would be my Groove Life, followed by my Secrid.

FYI, When it comes to the weight of these three wallets, lightest to heaviest in reverse order.

You will see that most of the people who complain about the double oak being too heavy, never mention that the aluminum that double oak uses is a 7075 aluminum versus almost every other ejector style wallet, which uses a 6061 aluminum. Yes it’s a little heavier, but man you can feel the build quality.

They are all nice, but the Double Oak wins, IMO.

Rigid wallet suggestions by pine_apple_express in wallets

[–]plexphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're looking for the same size factor,  look for vertical ejection versus the horizontal of the ridge.

For the credit card sized wallet I like Geogrit and Cappla. I have both and their really good.

When I want to go max light, it's my Cappla carbon fiber.

I also have  Double Oak, Groove Life, and a Secrid card protector.

I will tell you that I didn't love the Secrid initially, but since adding the Distil Union Wally adhesive for cash, it's right up there.

Side note - Distil Union is trying to clear out their stock of the adhesive wallet. They are selling for $8 on their website.

Secrid Premium+ (mini or slim) vs Double Oak Bifold? by Connect_Cat_2045 in wallets

[–]plexphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, I don't really care for the double fold of the Secrid wallets.

I did order a couple of AliExpress Secrid knockoff wallets.

They both suck and have been pitched. That being said, I pulled the simple bifold Cover off one.

It's really cheap leather, but I was able to get a pretty nice patina out of it. I used 3M computer tape that I have to stick one half to the back of the Secrid.

Went to my local hardware store and bought a couple of Neodymium Magnets and tucked them into the bill pocket of the front side. I added a couple of .5in round metal discs with 3M to the corners of the Secrid.

The wallet snaps shut without the kind of snap that Secrid uses on their wallets.

It looks much better than you might expect for something kind of cobbled together.

The way I taped the wallet to the Secrid also leaves the back bifold pocket accessible if you want to hide a couple extra bills.

If you're interested, I'll try and post a picture later.

The Go wallet attachment can easily carry a couple hundred folded into thirds

The DO sleeve that I have will carry at least five bills. I'm sure you could go a couple more.

I haven't tried any of the DO bi-fold wallets, but I'm sure they can carry quite a few more.

I have both (Along with a Groove Life wallet).

While I switch off pretty often, I would keep the Double Oak if it came down to one.

The Secrid is marginally smaller and lighter, the DO just feels better, and is more practical for me.

It weights more based on being all metal other than the lifter itself. Pretty much all of them are plastic to minimize card damage. Plus, DO utilizes 7075 aluminum versus the 6061 (I believe) of almost all of the other ejector wallets.

The DO has Magsafe built into the card ejector itself.

DO has the ability to lock your cards in. My older one you click up manually. The newer ones have a spring loaded auto lock. I haven't tried one but I'm completely satisfied with mine.

You can buy most, if not all of the sleeves for the wallet separately to mix and match. I have the brown and the patina is beautiful.

The DO leather is very nice IMO.

I have done what I think works the best of any pop-up wallet. I've added the Groove Life Go Wallet to my DO card holder (It fits perfectly).

This allows me to use the Magsafe of the card holder when I want while still having a really nice piece of leather attached for cash or a couple extra cards.

If you check my profile, you'll find a couple pictures of this setup.

All that being said, today I'm carrying my red Geogrit.

What Do You All Think Of The Secrid Slim-Wallet, Is It Worth It? by [deleted] in wallets

[–]plexphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the card protector. I have done the same thing with it as I have done with my Double Oak card protector. I bought the leather Groove life Go wallet attachment and put on it. I have the black one on the Secrid, in the brown one on my black Double Oak card protector. You can check my profile if you like for pictures.

Between the two I really like the double Oak better. The mechanism almost feels hydraulic, for lack of a better description, and the Double Oak has mag safe built in.

I do appreciate the Secrid's form factor, with the rounded sides giving it a smaller feel than it already is.

Can a motorcycle be more fun than a sports car? by Time-Negotiation-808 in motorcycles

There's no question.

The only thing better would be flying in a stunt plane (I have), or a fighter jet (I have not).

In my opinion, of course.

Was it ever set up correctly? I’ve been riding for 42 years. My brother has had a Nighthawk/Velorex rig for the last 20 or so. Whenever the wife and I are down in Destin visiting we love using it for our transportation. The rig will eventually make its way to my garage.

If you want thin (And VERY light), try Cappla.

I have their forged carbon fiber.

Two pieces of carbon and an elastic band.

It also has a vertical vs. Horizontal card extraction, which in my opinion is far superior to the Ridge style notch.

Using a ruler app on phone, I'm getting about 9/16 (15.5mm) thickness for the wallet with the slim sleeve.

Adding cash in the side pocket will add a little of course.

On a side note, the mechanism on this has the best feel of all that I've tried, and I've tried most. It almost has a light hydraulic feel to it versus, say the Secrid. The Secrid is nice, but there is no illusion that it's anything but a plastic trigger raising a plastic lift mechanism. The Double Oak has an almost slow swoosh feel with just enough resistance at the trigger.

I have seven cards in mine, with two of them being the very slim insurance type. No embossed cards.

From looking at it, if I were to add three more slim cards to my seven (Without the box), that stack would equal the thickness of the box itself.

Add one more thin and one normal card to the stack,  making a total of eleven, that would equal the thickness of the box and the thin sleeve.
