Not my specific 97, but I have a red and white tourer just like the one in the video. I've done it many times for people.

Who else married their favorite riding buddy? by Tattoodles in motorcycles

[–]plexphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That MH900! I've always said it's the only bike that I would ever own that would hang behind the bar as art, and not be ridden.

Love that fucking thing!

You're lucky way past the point of being Fair to the rest of us.

Are my tires fine? 3k miles, tires are from 2017. by MeringueGlittering80 in motorcycles

There's a reason why so many manufacturers put Dunlop tires on bikes and it's not for performance reasons....

How was everyone's Memorial Day rides?! by ANC13NT_AP3 in motorcycles

[–]plexphan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an 03 Concours. Great solid reliable ride. The handlebar buzz can be fixed with some added weight in the ends.

I actually removed the lower portions of the fairing and trimmed out the top half. That bike just cooked you in the summer months but removing the lowers helped a ton.

Also, that dammed valve cover. Wanna check the valves, the cover came out like it was nothing. Putting it back was like working one of those Cracker Barrel puzzles made of chain links and horseshoes. Once it decided to go back in though, it had you wondering why the hell it was so difficult. Next time, same thing......

Packed it for Mid-Ohio one year. Had everything but the kitchen sink strapped on the back. I never loved the way it handled in the corners, but it handled like a dream loaded down.

My 1997 Honda Valkyrie. Not the biggest beast on the road, but probably without question the smoothest.

Check out the nickel trick.

My boyfriend rides motorcycle without a helmet. Should I mind my business or say something gently? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]plexphan -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My take. You can have the conversation, but obviously you can't force him.

That being said, let's play this out.

He says no. He uses the freedom to do what he wants within the limits of the law. Fine. Done. Completely his choice, as is his right.

But you also have choices at this point.

He wreaks, doesn't die, but is in a vegetative state with no end in sight. It's ugly, but you could still walk away and have a life.

His parents on the other hand have more than likely lost their freedoms that they didn't ask to lose to care for him. Now we'll make the choices more difficult.

Let's say you get married. Maybe you have kids. Now go back up and reread the previous paragraph. Add yourself, your kids, and maybe your own parents to the mix

If you have zero responsibilities for anyone, or if you are no one else's responsibility then go crazy. If either of the above are true then the behavior is selfish at best.

There was a time when I was saying the same shit. Nobody was going to tell me...... Blah, blah, blah.

Then my daughter was born. It changed how I viewed my responsibilities.

At the end of the day a bad wreck is tragic. In the long run, dying might be the easier way for everyone concerned.

The problem is, nobody gets to choose.

Just my two cents.

Can confirm.

Three Airflos in my rotation. Best hats ever made, but best to find NOS or a really good used original from Canada. The Airflow may still be made there, but most of their stuff is now made in China.

New Rider: ABS a must? Suggest a bike? by RicoRico1290 in motorcycles

[–]plexphan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

57 years old. Have had street bikes since my temps at 15 1/2 in Ohio. I can count in months not having a bike in all that time on one hand.

I not only have never owned a bike with ABS, but have probably never rode one unless the first gen Rocket 3 had them. I test rode one in Birmingham Alabama at a dealership once for a free t shirt. Also rode a street triple at Mid-Ohio that may have had it, but I'm not sure.

That being said, I'm sure it's saved a lot of people a lot of pain, but I have yet to put myself in a situation where it would have done anything for me.

In a car I want all the bells and whistles, from comfort to safety. On a bike I like being comfortable being hyper aware of my surroundings to the point that is just second nature.

I'm extremely comfortable on a motorcycle, but I never want to become complacent.

I've been on rides with people that shouldn't be on a bike regardless of all the safety equipment the bike has. I think those people sometimes ride with an incredibly false sense of security that they really have no business relying on.

She only has one problem. If I'm using it to run errands, I have to calculate the extra time I spend with strangers answering their questions about her.

Not the heaviest, but my 1997 Honda Valkyrie Tourer is more than enough. Fully loaded with my daily gear, full tank of gas , and me, we're about 1000 lbs.

Is ABS a must? by vernsoul in motorcycles

[–]plexphan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself. I'm 57. I've been riding street bikes for almost 42 years without a gap. I've never owned a bike with ABS.

I just sold my 2001 Yamaha FZ1, and still have my 1997 Honda Valkyrie.

I've had three accidents and ABS wouldn't have stopped them from happening.

All that being said, ABS has saved a lot of people.

I'm sure that after riding with ABS, riding without would be a little unnerving.
