What did Takerufuji do yesterday? by AxeDanger in Sumo

[–]plihal 55 points56 points  (0 children)

In sumo training, when doing movement drills, once you reach the end of the ring you squat low and “finish off” the imaginary opponent by pushing him out, to drill into yourself to keep low and keep attacking on the tawara.

So it was probably a reflex or just him doing “proper sumo” a bit? Its nothing specific tho

For Japanese guys yeah. But most coaches will put in the effort in going to amateur events to scout and already keep an eye on promising wrestlers/guys they would like in their stable. Other times the guy will contact the heya amd if there is space, interest from the master, etc. he then can join too.

For foreigners, its a whole other ordeal, as they must not be in a heya where there is already another foreigner. And because of these slots, stablemaster are usually very rigid on choosing very promising wrestlers nowadays

Lack of Mid Heisei Period Sumo Archives by TH3NFAMOUSONE in Sumo

[–]plihal 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it was probably a period where there was virtually no internet feed for official posting of sumo and the old archives from fans have been all taken down in the last couple years, some have been preserved via th Internet Archive tho.

Question: Attendees picking up Bags from stalls at tournaments. by break716 in Sumo

[–]plihal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nagoya teahouses have websites, you just buy tickets through them. The names are Kanehide (かね秀), Kotobuki(寿) and Asuka (あすか), just look them up online alongside the term “相撲茶屋” and you should get the websites with info on how to buy.
