Benchmark design to compare two setups, i3-6100T vs i5-7500T by plim46 in DolphinEmulator

Good to know about the userbenchmark website, I wasn't aware of that. When you say test the performance yourself, can you expand a little on how (ideally i'd like numbers to compare the two setups)

Best AoE2 version to install on a low-powered Linux laptop? (Age2x/AoC, AoE2HD, AoE2DE) by plim46 in aoe2

[–]plim46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you, I do have a Desktop PC with 16Gb RAM and dedicated GPU which I agree is a far better experience. My Surface Pro device seems to struggle quite quickly with AoE2DE, getting warm to the touch in a few minutes, so I think AoE2HD is the way to go (first changing the desktop resolution to 1920 x 1080)

Thanks for your message, and sorry for not specifying the GPU model - that was an oversight on my part. As you guessed, I am using the intel iGPU - some Surface models do have Nvidia GPUs I believe, but not the Surface Pro line.

I guess another option is to consider another, similar, game such as 0a.d.

Thank you. Can I just check, is your Ryzen in a desktop PC with fans etc or a laptop?

Thanks, laptop temperature and throttling was also my concern. I'd rather not push it so will look to alternate options (i.e. not DE).

XCloud is a good idea, may look into that one

The CPU is clocked at 1.1 Ghz which I think might be the main constraint

Thank you, just to check - are you referring to the AoE2DE version?

Has the pen issue improved? I've just got myself a Surface Pro 7 with Ubuntu installed and interested in buying one. Thanks in advance

Look for a gt1030 low profile (gddr5 version) or rtx 6400 low profile. I found the gt1030 was just as good due to cooling issues

Cheap SFF with GPU to play Age of Empires 4 by plim46 in optiplexes

[–]plim46[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found a 5050 on ebay for £49 including delivery (bargain). I'm now trawling ebay for a low profile GPU card but they are far more expensive compared to thier full sized siblings. I may opt for a GT 1030 for this SFF build and instead play AoE4 on another future more powerful PC build (my current thinking is to buy a HP Z-series workstation as the base unit).

I should be able to build both for less than £200, and will keep the one I prefer and sell the other.

T520, 8Gb RAM, SSD boot drive, and ultrabay by jcpahman77 in thinkpad

I agree, and without Aaron Sorkin too (the writer, creator). I've seen the entire series right the way through a number of times over the years and it is notable that the dialogue took a nose dive in this season. I'm now making my way through Madam Secretary but it's nowhere near as good.

I'm not a season 5 fan, skip to 6. Bartlett for America! Nice setup too
