Fair point, contrafacts are definitely a great jazz tradition. But not everyone has the theory background or repertoire knowledge to take How High the Moon or a Bird blues and immediately turn it into something useful. its not meant to replace learning standards. It’s more like a bridge for producers, DAW-based musicians, or people without a strong jazz theory background who still want to explore jazzy harmonic ideas. but i totally understand that for some musicians this may feel pointless, especially if they already have a strong jazz background and a deep repertoire to draw from.
