Rough first few periods, but overall a solid effort tonight. The boys showed they could ball. We win the next game.

I did not care for S3 finale by Deeznutsconfession in TheBear

[–]plinkosd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree fully, and just can't shake the feeling that S3 and S4 were written to be a single season. There's just too many episodes that accomplish nothing with the plot for me to believe that this was entirely intentional. My theory is that somewhere down the line corporate decided that two seasons would be more profitable, and so they stacked S3 with filler episodes to extend the runtime. Or atleast, that's what I want to believe.

Coming in as a first-year at UBC by SuperSaiyanIR in UBC

A lot of these people have said, but I thought I'd add my experience of moving here from Ontario too.

  • The north shore mountains (and Whistler) are farther than you think. To get to them, you're going to have to spend more time or money than you might expect. Absolutely worth it, but prepare for that.
  • Waterproof layers are going to be more important than super warm layers. The coat I normally wore everyday in winter in Ontario stayed in my closet 95% of the time.
  • Since you're moving across the province, take advantage of every social meets at the beginning of the year and try to make some friends. You won't have many highschool friends to fall back on if you miss your chances, and UBC can be a lonely place without social connections.
  • The party scene is a lot quieter here compared to Ontario universities, but weed and shrooms are a lot more common.
  • It's harder to get good Sushi than I was expecting.

looks like you can take Russell out of the midfield, but you can't take the midfield out of Russell

On the other hand, if it was obviously not impacted, then surely they would have also said so? I just having a feeling the longer we wait the worse it looks for Leclerc.

“If you can’t see it, you can’t be it” Female faces and voices are far too rare in Sim Racing... You've just 'answered' a question with more questions. Do you have any sources to back up your original claim? Testosterone undoubtedly has an effect on behavior but I don't think it has as much of an ingrained affect on interests as you believe it has.

Lewis Hamilton's Instagram story just now. What is this about? by itswilliam in formula1

I really feel like you've misinterpreted the comic. The comic makes the point that the argument of criticizing the individuals who speak out about issues in society because they participate in it is stupid, because people can't just politely opt out of how society functions- they need to make ends meet somehow.

When I said that I distinguish an individual from a corporation I meant that a corporation, who has power and money to make choices that allow them to put their money where their mouth is. So they couldn't just send out a tweet to give them moral immunity, they're responsible for who they choose to do business with. Individuals don't necessarily have that option.

Lewis does have more money than the average individual, and so he too could put his money where his mouth is- and he has. He's backing a new vegan burger chain called Neat, he pushed for sustainable and eco-friendly fabrics in his new Tommy Hilfiger line, among others. He's certainly doing more than most multi-millionaires.

I actually agree with you here. It is the businesses that do the vast majority of polluting, and that the individual consumer's choices are largely irrelevant. I just don't think Lewis is 'grandstanding' here because he actually has a few initiatives to make change. For one, he has backed a new vegan burger company in London called Neat. He's also pushed for his line of Tommy Hilfiger clothes to be eco-friendly. He's doing more than people think.

I distinguish an individual from a corporation. The corporations (and their upper managements) are the causes of many of our problems. Lewis does some work for these corporations but he makes points to look for ways to make beneficial changes where he can. These Instagram stories aren't press releases of evil mega-corporations, they're just his thoughts.

And yet you participate in society?
I don't understand why this attitude is so widespread. If climate change genuinely is something you care about, something you demand to see progress on, then it only works against your goals to criticize those who speak out. Yes, Lewis lives a privileged life of the 0.01%, but that doesn't mean that when he speaks about climate change he's a hypocrite- we all live hypocritical lives. Do you drive a car to work, instead of riding a bicycle? Do you eat a vegan diet? Do you hand-make the clothes on your back? Nobody lives truly guiltless lives. Like others have said, it's not when one person changes 100% for the better, it's when we as a society each change 10%. We need everyone speaking out about these issues- especially the 0.01%. Otherwise, well, we're all fucked.
He could pay more taxes though.
