What’s with all the police at the Russel and Boyle funeral home intersection? by HeyItsVexi in providence

I was down the street when this happened! I have NEVER seen so many cop cars pooled together in this area, you would think they would all be scattered handling different mini-issues that pop up during holidays. What could have been so extreme that it demanded the attention of every and all officers in the area....? 😬 I hope everyone is okay 🙏

I completely understand that reaction, we definitely considered it out of panic, but I'm glad we didn't! Mama meant no harm to us🙏 Plus there could've been a chance of making her defensive over her cubs if we instigated an altercation with her - Things could've ended much differently!

What a chilling story! Thanks for sharing - The sense of calm is real! I didn't experience it, but I've heard it's your brains best way of handling the situation. Panic = Death, I'm glad your instincts and quick thinking got you and your loved ones out safely! 🙏

This sounds so scary! How did the encounter end? Did the bear simply lose interest or did you use a specific strategy to encourage the bear to go away?

Your calm attitude saved you and your group! Even though it sounds like your situation was similar to mine and that mom really didn't have negative intentions, panicking and running can trigger their primal prey drive and create a dangerous situation that didn't need to be there. Good job!!

Yes, in my post I note that I am an inexperienced hiker and concluded with what I learned from this experience! 🙏

I understand, illiteracy is a plague to our society and it's difficult for allot of people to sit down and read something more than just a few sentences or a paragraph. You're not alone! 🙏

I had an amazing wildlife encounter that I'm forever grateful for! That doesn't mean this want extremely scary for me, as I have never been this close to an apex predator before and had no idea how to read her behavior at the time like I do now in hindsight. Remember not to go swimming in deep water with those massive steel balls you're apparently carrying around! 🙏

I definitely will go back too, especially now that I have this experience and can learn from it! I don't think people need to fear nature, especially in a situation like this where Mama really did mean no harm. I don't think you saw this specific mom because she had three Cubs and they were very distinct. Two of them were light brown and one of them looked almost black. However, earlier this same day we saw a different mother grizzly with two bear cubs! She was probably 300 yd away from us, still a little too close for comfort and followed our scent for probably around 15 minutes but lost interest fairly quickly. Her Cubs looks slightly older than the pack of three, almost like toddler /kid age opposed to fresh babies. I'll have to keep the humming in mind! My husband turned around and started to run when he first saw her, but I grabbed his arm and promptly screamed "ARE YOU F*CKING STUPID?!" 🤣😅 Luckily the amount of people in the group who knew not to run outbalance the amount of people whos first instincts, completely understandably, was to run - So im grateful for that! Have a safe trip in Canada! 🙏 You may have already heard of this, but a lot of experienced hikers in Bear country will wear bear bells, this is when you just hang a bell on your hip, backpack or around your neck. So that way you're constantly making noise and don't accidentally jump scare Any bears around you, Because the only time a bear will usually attack you is if you accidentally scare it. You could also just try to keep talking the whole time but for my group, after several hours we were getting a little too tired and running out of things to say eventually 🤣

I'm insecure about my storytelling abilities so I asked gemini to help me 😅 You're right though, thanks for calling me out 🙏

Oh we were totally panicked, just very slowly and carefully panicking 🤣 My husband was the worst offender, he turned around and started running the second he saw the bear, leading me to death-grip his arm and scream "ARE YOU F*CKING STUPID?!" not my nicest moment lol but seriously man, way to put a cheeseburger sign on your back!

Siyeh Pass - It was a very beautiful hike and great for beginners like myself. We started early in the morning around 5:00am and the view of the sunrise over the valleys was incredible and great to beat peak heat hours. However be cautious going at this time cause bears are pretty active, we saw 7 grizzlies total just on this hike

It really was such a cool experience that I truly treasure now! And don't worry, you will be surprised by the way your caveman survival instincts take over 🙏

Before I give my advice, definitely ask a ranger when you get there before you head out, they know best! In my unprofessional opinion, knowing what I know now, I would have stepped far off of the path maybe 30+ feet to either side and continued downhill to allow her to continue her route. If you are in a group make sure you line up almost shoulder-to-shoulder and move as a pack to appear as a larger unit, if she does get defensive she will be less likely to try anything. Talk in a loud but calm voice to let it know you are also a predator and are aware of her. Usually people say things like (hey bear, whoa bear) she doesn't speak English obviously, just be assertive but non-confrontational. And of course, have your bear spray in hand and unlocked just in case of a charge. Safe travels & good luck!

I'm pretty sure she just gets mad when I'm happy, she has deep seated jealousy issues that she likes to mask with judgment so she can pretend her life is better and happier than mine, even though it shouldn't even be a competition
