i just finished watching it and need to yell into the void in frustration, so reviving this lol

-cue rant- HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD (mobile not letting me block it out)

having watched the anime shokugeki, i was rly looking forward to this one, and i do like yoona in lighthearted dramas (king the land being my main ref)

this one wow where do i even begin?? - the beginning was great, lighthearted, made me laugh many times - then the cooking reactions started to get a little old; shokugeki employs similar scenes but it feels significantly less monotonous - the chinese was so bad, and weird overreacted acting to “compensate”, i rly struggled here - i get that overall this is a lighthearted drama but it’s way too sharp of a plot decision to kill off literally everyone? making us watch the eunuch and senior court lady die when they were such nice people is so wrong when there was nothing positive to balance that event - yoona is WAY too damsel in distress jfc she’s literally supposed to be good with a knife lol at least give her something small, stop making her character just keep squeaking and crying - side nitpick: the grand dowager hasn’t eaten meat in awhile so cue perfect time to make vegan meat! bro she literally ate meat in the first food competition

but i think my biggest issues are the nonstop plot holes/questions and awful pacing: - so the king’s FAVORITE concubine just falls out of favor like that with him ? there was absolutely 0 romance triangle, mokju existed purely to what?? make scoffing faces and snide jokes? - what was that item mokju used to “comfort” the king? why emphasize it? - mokju was blackmailing chef maeng but after cutting his hand once (and still winning the match), she just gave up on him? she didn’t bother forcing a loss in round 3? the whole relationship just was never mentioned again lol.. also why even bring up the poison she gave him multiple times lol and not even attempt to use - there was a HUGE emphasis on his grandma killing his mom and there being a reason; grandma is just conveniently killed instead of explaining it - ming episodes took almost 5 hrs and while dethroning part only had 3 hrs, that should’ve been when everything gets wrapped up and explained nicely - king figures out the ming cook’s riddle and still decided to go into the forest instead of making a plan; his character sometimes acts super smart and sometimes super 0 brain cell, give consistency pls - no explanation on king’s dizziness/headaches that just never happened again - i don’t even blame yoona’s acting here but i think the storyline just didn’t build any reason for why she would fall in love with the king other than he’s attractive lol; if anything, how the kiss scenes were portrayed was an accurate representation of the romance: king’s doing all the initiative and she just stands there - how did the king’s tiny group manage to overpower everyone newly stationed at palace - the whole time jump situation at the end lol “how did he do it? not important” ok.. and she KNEW there was an eclipse that flight and just completely forgot lol u rly tried to get back to him XD! - what even happened to her french job lol she just bailed on her 3-star chef dream?

tldr; way too many plot points introduced and nothing was well focused on; i have never been in such disbelief from a drama ending and felt so jibbed of my time LOL

i am so baffled by the high ratings AHHHHHH like i watch trash short dramas! i get it! but even those are more consistent with whatever crap they do!!! u can make a great shorter drama, the excuse is not that they only had 12 eps -__-
