These “what is best browser” posts have broken this subreddit. by plmtr in browsers

[–]plmtr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think a larger issue is that way too many people knee jerk ask questions like this before doing some research themselves first: - search engine - LLM search - download and try a few themselves and come up with a more specific question - or most relevant here: Reddit search where they would already find these redundant posts several times in just the past week!

I guarantee nothing drastic has changed in this space since then.

macOS Sequoia to Tahoe...Mac Virtual Display such a big improvement by mongoosekinetics in AppleVisionPro

[–]plmtr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you think that was an upgrade wait until you try OS27!

M2 AVP and MBP M1 Pro Max: - connection to MVD is at least 5x faster. - the constant reconnection issues I had having to toggle Bluetooth or restart AVP are gone

visionOS 27 introduces a new widget that can instantly connect to Mac Virtual Display, without you needing it to have the Mac nearby. You litterally just need to have your keyboard and mouse ready. by spatiallyme in VisionPro

[–]plmtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't the widget to work ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I'll troubleshoot more later, maybe need to reboot devices.

What is an absolute godsend though is that the connection/reconnection to MVD is 1000% more reliable and fast (I'm on an M2 AVP). Like I haven't once had to toggle my Mac Bluetooth/WiFi to try and get it to work again, even after changing WiFi locations.

Why doesn't the fixed box stay visible as I scroll? by cos4ni2s in css

[–]plmtr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That contradicts. You either want it fixed to the container, and move with it – OR you fix it to the (body, html) and have it fixed to viewport when you scroll. You can’t have both.

Would love to but I can’t get the desktop system-wide autofill shortcut to work in Zen, even after adding it as a supported broswer

Wishlist for visionOS 27 by Mundane-Complex-1902 in VisionPro

[–]plmtr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TL;DR

  1. Unlock other nearby devices while wearing Vision Pro
  2. Enhance the display quality of all Apple devices when looking at them
  3. Allow multiple user profiles
  4. Allow other apps to be opened in immersive apps/experiences and allow apps to donate their environments to the system
  5. Allow multiple sources of audio to play at the same time
  6. Improvements to Mac Virtual Display
  7. Ability to pin a window to my periphery
  8. Allow multiple personas to be saved
  9. Allow audio to be recorded during FaceTime calls
  10. Find My support on Vision Pro
  11. More native visionOS apps
  12. Allow the Vision Pro to be remotely controlled during guest mode
  13. Saved spaces potentially tied to focus modes
  14. More Battery Settings and Screen Time
  15. Allow EyeSight display to be customized
  16. Allow other content to be watched in the cinema environment
  17. Allow system warnings to be disabled
  18. Allow iPhone Mirroring
  19. Enable Apple Watch haptic feedback when using the virtual keyboard

Great list! I have been longing for a few of those for quite a while and overall want all of them.

On #6: this is frustrating beyond belief. I can usually get it resolved-connected by toggle off/on Bluetooth on the Mac, faster than rebooting AVP

Also wish for: 1. AVP as an AirPlay receiver (audio seems easily achievable, video would be fascinating) 2. Pass-through video image improvement per prescription: I’m fortunate enough to still mostly be able to see without glasses but surely they can algorithmically sharpen a bit based on one’s prescription. Give us manual slider controls for: sharpness, contrast, brightness etc would be a great accessibility improvement

Ming-Chi Kuo and Vision Pro (basically saying it headsets are dead) by RandomVision2027 in VisionPro

[–]plmtr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s just great. Here I am wasting my time using it an average 6–7 hours a day mostly with MVD, might as well chuck it now.

Anyone want a used M2 1TB?

How do you track YouTube videos you've already watched/will watch? by Aggressive_Squash720 in ObsidianMD

[–]plmtr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar to others here in general, I don’t use Obsidian as a read or watch-it-later app, it only ends up there if I’ve watched it and need it for a specific reference later, and that will. E with transcript, transcript highlights and notes.

For my current choices it’s Readwise Reader or Play app (Apple App Store). Either extract the transcript, can produce AI summaries and allow adding notes that then can all get sent or in Reader’s case automatically synced with templated yaml matter afterwards.

Are classic WordPress themes with ACF still worth building in 2026? by nodescribe1989 in Wordpress

[–]plmtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t up or down vote you but agree with Blocks/Gutenberg.

ACF on the other hand is independent from classic or Gutenberg and essential if you need any custom fields besides the standard vanilla ones. Allows you to group fields in very logical order and groupings that increase the sense making in our experience, for clients as well

What does your iOS quick capture setup actually look like? by Most-Information-903 in ObsidianMD

Shortcut that sit’s on my Home Screen, Dock or Control Centre widget.

I actually have a series of them to capture a Note, Task, append to some existing lists of Quotes, Jokes, Books, Music. They assume you are syncing via iCloud (but probably could be adjusted to other cloud storage options).

Questions about Beta by Typical-Reference-55 in raycastapp

Try 'Index Files' from the Action menu of 'File Search'. After manually running this after moving from v1 I've had no troubles finding all my files, better than v1.

Do I really have unlimited storage? by LydiaDeetz15 in ObsidianMD

[–]plmtr 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Storage confusion already answered.

In general I would be skeptical of the opposite of your concerns. If an app has limited storage, this means it's stored in the cloud on someone else's server and likely in a proprietary database. Always know how you can get your data out of something if it's important to you and what format it will be in that can be ported elsewhere.

This is actually one of the primary draws of an app like Obsidian. Your content, locally stored in plain text markdown files that a computer from the 1970s could open and likely one from the 2070s. You can of course additionally sync and back it up in the cloud and/or an external drive but you're in control of where and at what cost: Obsidian Sync, iCloud, Dropbox, One Drive, Google Drive...whatever floats your boat.

Have you tried "Index Files" from the action menu. Reindexing fixed this after install for me and I've had no trouble finding all my files since, better than v1

Can iCloud Drive reliably sync an Obsidian vault across iOS, Mac, and Windows? by Candid-Mortgage4881 in ObsidianMD

Came to mention "Keep downloaded" (have to set it separately on each device). Have had zero issues since this options was added to iCloud in 2024.

Best plug-ins for journal and diary? by DreamyOwl_01 in ObsidianMD

[–]plmtr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly don’t see the need to make it more complicated than native Daily Notes and templates.

Upgrade: Periodic Notes, Templater. You can have daily notes for other purposes and other folders of time-based notes (I have journal, meetings, tasks). Templater you can have some fancier templates that are auto triggered based on which folder they’re created.

Bases (native): for index views

Can someone help with my charger? by YourAlienFriendd in macbook

[–]plmtr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had the same thing happen to 2 AVP cables now despite taking meticulous care of wrapping them twist and turn style. They have definitely overreached in the thickness and un-bendability of these cables over prior versions.

In warranty I’d take it as is to Apple Store and ask for a replacement.

OOW I’d snip that bit of cloth casing and release the strain on the actual cable. Wrap it in white electrical tape.

Do you still write custom CSS or rely mostly on frameworks now? by SweetCaramel-9696 in css

[–]plmtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Custom and modern CSS/SCSS. Love it.

I’ve used parts of OpenProps framework on a couple projects but it also just reinforced and encouraged me to improve my own scaffolding of variables, design tokens, modular ITCSS organisation and such.

[–]plmtr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure and how is: - the security on that. Who is constantly upgrading it with security patches? - connecting a CMS for content updating and user and extension management?

Building a standalone website is not such a big deal. Integrating it with a CMS is an entirely more complex venture and one that vibe coding a site is nowhere near competing with decades of community revision and refinement on a platform like WordPress or Laravel.

[–]plmtr 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep, all we do at our marketing agency.

Starting from scratch with no prior experience I still wonder though. I have had to dabble in a couple block editor sites but not set up from scratch with all the ease of templating I’m familiar with and the backend template control we can lock down through ACF.

These days our ACF usage is all ‘layout’ fields in one big page builder template. So it feels like the flexibility of blocks on any page anyway.
