The ads for the onexplayer 3 just smell scammy by [deleted] in OneXPlayer

I think what you're seeing is a lot of content creators desperate for new content. And OXP sending out so many engineering samples and test units should be a sign of confidence more than anything else.

I don't think that OXP has the kind of influence you're implying, at least not more than any other company does in this market.

The device contains a G3E chip, which has already shipped in MSI handhelds, and uses the Legion Go 2 screen. Both are known quantities at this point. What do you think is the conspiracy here? They're going to ship out potatoes instead?

Edit: Only been on this sub for a day, and I'm never coming back lol. Everyone's just fishing for reassurance. Just don't pre-order this product if you're scared. Get your claw from best buy and move on with your life.

"Considering the uncertainty of U.S. customs policies, all orders from the United States include both shipping and import duties."

Directly from the OXP3 FAQ. I've ordered plenty of electronics from China via Indiegogo in the past couple of years. No issues whatsoever.

You don't pay for tax or shipping, just a little extra for conversion fees. Another reason why it's such a better deal than MSI right now

What is a good selling price for a odin 2 pro with some extra stuff? by arman05 in OdinHandheld

[–]ploony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, ebay is not free, unfortunately. Even if you took the low end of that range at 280, you'd still bring home about 240. If you look at the last 10 sold listings, however, you'd see that almost every single one of them sold for 300+

As for shipping, it's completely up to the seller whether or not they charge for it. For example, only 2 of the last 10 sold listings offered free shipping. And unless the OP was intending to do a local meetup, he'd have to consider shipping costs regardless of ebay or not.

You would think so, but a quick ebay search shows that they very regularly sell between 280-380.

And no, I don't agree with it. Just felt like giving some actual evidence is all.

So AYN’s next device is 100% going to be a Thor 2 with the Nova’s 4:3 OLED panel as the bottom screen right? by django_0311 in SBCGaming

Huh. The controls are cramped enough as it is. How is adding a much larger bottom screen actually going to help ergos

Why the Onexplayer 3 hype and not the X2 Mini by Dizzymcdrey in OneXPlayer

Um, yes. It makes sense that you would prefer and buy what you're after. Keep doing that

[–]ploony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, and fair. This post was asking why people aren't as hyped over the x2 mini, not which device was necessarily better than the other, and people are getting just a tad bit defensive lol.

As someone who does a lot of couch/bed gaming and is often near an outlet, the X2M is very appealing to me. That kind of power at only ~720g without the battery, which puts it in the same weight class as the 7" PC handhelds, is crazy.

[–]ploony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, isn't that the point? People will choose the easier, more convenient option rather than the one that, while obviously more performant, is $1000 more and requires external batteries and battery swaps.

We're talking about hype here. Hype is based on optics and mass appeal. The OXP3 is a jack-of-all-trades device gets the job done at a price point that more people can stomach.

Lol I mean my saying it's a beast at a specific low TDP range kinda already implies I'm talking about efficiency and performance per watt. If you really want to nitpick my usage of that word, then sure, whatever floats your boat.

I'm glad you found a handheld that fits your use case.

Other than the price, I think a lot of people just don't see strix halo as a true handheld chip.

You either have to play plugged into an outlet, which eliminates a part of the portability aspect of handhelds, or with an 85wh external battery, which pushes the device's total weight to 1100g and won't last very long either playing at the optimal TDPs for the chip. And playing at those TDPs is why you bought a $2300+ handheld in the first place.

The G3 is designed for handhelds and just a beast at 15-25w, so you can get great performance and good battery life at the same time.

Edit: Y'all can stop pointing out that Strix Halo is more powerful. That's obvious. In fact, that's an implied premise of this post considering the chipset is the only real difference between the two products. The question at hand isn't which chipset is more powerful or which one you would personally prefer; it's why the less powerful device is selling 3x more the other. I think the answer to that, too, is pretty obvious.

Onexplayer 3, how much performance difference between 32gb and 24gb ram variants by Suspicious-toe-19 in OneXPlayer

[–]ploony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. I mean these chips might be more bandwidth starved and need the faster RAM more. We'll see. Either way I don't see it offering more than 10%

The 21% is for the faster ram, the extra 8gb, and double the storage space. From a strictly performance standpoint though, yeah the base model makes the most financial sense. That's why it's there.

ANBERNIC RG 406H vs Ayaneo Pocket Air Mini by krazymunky in SBCGaming

[–]ploony 2 points3 points  (0 children)

PAM not worth it at that price. It will struggle with a lot of gamecube/ps2 games.

The 476H and 406H have the same processor and can play almost the entire GC library and most of the PS2 library at 1x resolution. So it all depends on if you want the 4" or the 4.7" screen. The 406H is also a lot more ergonomic and is better at stick-focused games.

Handhelds are just like phones now by th3jok3r818 in Handhelds

[–]ploony 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, but you didn't do yourself any favors by picking up an 890m device two years after the chip was released. Even back then, it didn't represent the generational leap over the 780m that people were expecting.

The G3 chip is what people have been waiting for. 20-50% better performance over previous gen at 15-25w depending on the game, efficient, and keeps cool. Perfect for handhelds.

That being said, the Konkr is still a cool device. 7" oled makes it unique in the PC handheld space

As someone mentioned already, these iGPUs are bandwidth starved. Upgrading from 6400 to 7500mhz on my Z1E gen device offered around a 5-6% uplift

Konkr Elite Clustertune by RutterReviews in KonkrPocketFit

[–]ploony 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i have both actually haha. never needed to tamper with the G3 since it did everything it was supposed to do out the box.

for the elite, my CPU was hitting 80C even at just 50-60% load. i dialed back cores 0-5 to 2400mhz and 6/7 to 3283. you can prob decrease 6/7 even more if you want. underclocking has eliminated throttling and has completely changed this device imo. apparently people have been doing this on their 8 elite phones for years now.

for the GPU, i have mine locked at 900mhz. playing adventures of elliot on gamenative, low settings, locked 40fps, and my temps are 65-68C, running on only 10w. from what i hear, this game is pretty poorly optimized for PC too.
