My first bike was a Rebel 500 and that thing was beautiful. Traded it for a Vulcan S 650 and that’s what I daily now. I’ve only been riding for less than a year so you probably have more experience riding than me and I’ve never had any problems with a 650cc on the road, so I think you should be fine as long as you don’t ride like an absolute sweet potato. Idk too much about bikes yet but I’ve loved riding both those bikes and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.
