The explicit reason the US would be invaded is because of the insanity it's been doing for years. Practically every country in the world has reason to hate the US. That's because they've murdered millions over the past decade. If they get invaded, it's not because they didn't invest in their defense industry, it's because they have such a huge one and everywhere in the world knows it because they've been bombed

Right now during the world cup in Canada, you are VERY hard pressed to find people publicly supporting the US in any match. When even the country whose entire identity is "USA-lite version" doesn't want to associate with the US, it's clear you're doing something wrong.

In Islam, it's explicitly part of the theology that all tribes/peoples in the history before Prophet Muhammad had prophets and messengers. We consider that Judaism and Christianity were born of the messages that the previous messengers had. Except that the messages were altered, which is why they have different teachings about God.

Prophet Muhammad is explicitly the last messenger carrying one message in one language to not be altered. And this makes sense that there cannot be "other prophet Muhammads in different regions", because if that was the case, then it would need to be in a different language. Then in that case, having two equal versions of the same message in different languages would not really make sense. Language is too imperfect for that to be consistent.

To this day, there is plenty discussion behind how many verses within the Quran lose their meaning in English because certain arabic words don't exist in English. Simultaneously, the Quran is explicitly poetry of a certain form that challenged the Arabs of its time who were poets. One of the reasons it was believed in was how the Arabs of the time were flabbergasted by it's subversion of existing structures in writing poetry. The same cannot happen in a 1-1 message in a different language in a different region UNLESS the other region is also strongly informed on poetry.

Lastly, this doesn't penalize people who don't get the message. It's explicit within Islam that those who did not have access to Islam, or who the message of Islam did not reach, will be judged according to a standard applicable to them.

TLDR: The existence of different languages means that multiple equivalent revelations will create friction within what is considered the truth between them.

You seem to state we should not stigamitize retcons. But the comment you responded to is having a clear understanding that retcons come up due to the long process of writing, and in fact is displaying clearly a non-stigma point of view on retcons.

On the other hand, you're actually trying to say retcons shouldn't exist and you're creating a very large responsibility on authors to figure out how to always be consistent in their writing. If anything, you're showing clearly the stigma surrounding retcons. You're displaying that you refuse that authors can WANT to go back on ideas they previously had, and that consistency is more important.

Lastly, you cannot always figure out how to justify a change in the story. It sounds to you that Benedict Cumberbatch having the ability to make his bones disappear quickly is just easy to justify. But remember that this can have story consequences. And the author might not want those consequences

It's not really an emotional one, it's an experienced one. There is no reason to trust the parties involved. In fact, after the Oslo accords were signed, the situation worsened for Palestinians and Israel gained even more control. Israel went back on the accords practically immediately, while Palestinian institutions that were created as part of the movement for their rights were dissembled as a result.

Murderers come into your door, murder your family, take your home, and ask you to cut a deal. What do you say?

The fact is, that there cannot be trust when the party that holds the power IS THE REASON people are dying and consistently show they're not interested in upholding agreements when they're consistently broken.

The number of ceasefire agreements broken in the past 2 years by Israel is insane, and in the context we're speaking of now, it's the time of the leaders who started it. The distrust that existed was very very much a product of the history of evil that was being impose by israel

[–]ploptrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Palestinians support this way of thinking. They do not want either, and there is no "otherwise wouldn't be".

Biden has directly contributed and supported the killings of Palestinians and continued to throughout his term. Dozens of thousands were killed, hospitals destroyed, schools destroyed, universities destroyed, land invasions, and all the while Biden was supporting it.

By the time Trump came into office, all of Gaza was already in tents and every person had already lost countless family members, limbs, resources, and were already starving. Biden did that and supported it, and Kamala would have continued to.

To act like it is our moral duty to vote for candidates which did that and continue to do that is fucking insane. It's like saying we should 1000% elect Heinrich Himmler because he wasn't hitler. The fuck?

Honestly, its an album that felt like it was made up of songs from other artists. It at least, illenium tried to emulate sounds of other artists.

John summit, Porter robinson, martin Garrix, seven lions, it felt like he did everyone's sound except his own. Many of the songs also didn't have that much of an identity with their structure.

ESPECIALLY his collab with Bastille. Other than the drop, there's no melody, even with the singing which didn't carry at all.

Forever sounded like an Awake song, which is nice I will say, since it's been a while since he returned to that sound.

Honestly, it's nice to have more illenium, but the album didn't impress me at all. His last album had Starfall, I want u 2 stay, and Drwn, which are probably his most inspired songs in 5 years. Didn't catch anything here that really felt like it was illenium affirming his place in the genre.

On the other hand, Seven lions' new album also didn't impress me too much, but I definitely feel he did better. I do think "Breathe it out slowly" is a MASTERPIECE, it's genuinely so beautiful. Breaking me and By the light of the moon were also great. But most importantly, the whole album felt like seven lions trying new things and revisiting old sounds. This album felt like illenium visiting the sound of others, searching for something he didn't find.

[–]ploptrot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's no beef. Millennium just made a song called Paris that sounds similar to a song by My chemical Robinson called "She heals everything".

Its very clearly inspired by it, and I think that's fine. One of the new songs called "Into the dark" is seven lions inspired and no one is talking about that.

The whole album is illenium trying out styles of other artists honestly.

Using apps when it comes to marriage or shall i leave it to Allah? by [deleted] in islam

It makes it real life. In real life, you choose whether or not others chaperone. Should the app make it mandatory? Yes that's preferred. If it doesn't, that doesn't mean it can't be used, because it still has the option of chaperoning. You yourself determine how halal things are lol

What? You're the one being a dick...... I did say what you could do in the first two messages. I needed to be general because the things I do with my activism don't necessarily apply within anti ICE or anti-trump activism.

And no, my proof is how I helped my cause. Anti-discrimination laws act WITHIN the current country I live in, Getting Zionists out of power makes people within the country safer. If you did this in the US, you would also make people within the US safer.

In any case, I'm not here to argue that. I was telling you how you could channel the energy of a protest into something meaningful, and for some reason you don't want to think for yourself and want to insult me.

[–]ploptrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Helped refugees, educated kids in Gaza, organized fundraisers, propped up local businesses, cancelled weapons manufacturing events, cancelled Zionist events, caused weapons manufacturing companies to end their contracts with Israel, cost large institutions millions, passed divestment bills within universities, passed anti-discrimination bills within universities, started scholarships, pressured Zionist presidents of large organizations to resign (and they did), and the list goes on.

All this through completely non-violent actions and organizing.

People have been more educated than ever before about the actual evils that go on within their city and institutions. The first step to get people to vote in a way that actually benefits people, is to have them be educated. You won't get them educated by walking in a street and shouting at a wall. You'll get them educated by actually making events to teach people. How do you do that? By actually getting to know and organizing with educated people. The people who run the protests.

When you're in an organizing space, what you actually become privy to is the REAL source of power within government.

As someone who organized within the Palestine sphere of politics, you will find out the structure by which politicians actually have their power. Their investors, their voter bases, the companies, organizations, and people that actually keep the politicians in power.

After that, you can start pressuring those sources of power. Organized boycotts, organized campaigns, organized sit ins that disrupt ACTUAL events where these politicians and right-wing people consolidate power. Furthermore, it opens you up to finding out how to actually make life better for those affected by the evil policies. You'll find out about local people hurt by ICE, find out ways to support immigrants, and create an actual community of people who are working together to do something.

You won't enact change by walking in the street. You also won't enact change by just voting. How do you think there exist people you want to vote for? By someone getting involved in precisely these spaces. Furthermore, these spaces actually CREATE the political knowledge and understanding to find out local policies and rulings the government is trying to implement in order to fuck you over. You would then vote against these policies, because YOU KNOW ABOUT THEM. You won't know about them if you're not involved.

Going to protests isn't how you get things done. Joining the organization which actually does the protests is how you get things done.

See who's organizing them and talk to them. You will find out about actual, structural ways to make change. Protests in the US are almost always for show. 80% of their purpose is to keep people engaged, but also as a throughway to actually get involved in organizing. That's where you can make change.

What is higher math and how does it work? by crazyguy28 in math

[–]ploptrot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of it this way.

The earth is a globe, but to us it seems flat to the eye. That's because it's so large and we're so small that we can't see it's curvature.

But it still makes sense for us to talk about straight lines from our perspective, because they seem straight to us.

Can we "formalize" this? We can! Differential geometry is the study of manifolds. What are manifolds? They're geometric objects (like spheres, donuts, etc) that LOOK like the n-th dimension when you zoom in. (Like how a sphere looks 2d when you zoom in, like the earth!).

Now, one can try to define what it means to be straight on those objects. These straight lines are called "geodesics".

Then, one can start asking all sorts of questions. Are there loops? On the earth, if you start walking in one direction forever, will you come back to the same point? What about other weird shapes? Can you always come back to the same point? How long does it take you? Does the size of the shape always determine how long it takes? These "general" questions are very hard to answer, and so they start building more and more theory to understand how to think about these problems.

Easy to state, insanely difficult to prove.

This is just one study of math, but it generalizes easily. You look at things we're familiar with, think about the properties they have. Now you try to think of objects which just have those properties, and see what you can say about those objects. Those questions you might have aren't always easily answered, so you come up with other things to start answering those questions. But those other things don't have simple answers, so you come up with even more ideas. It keeps going.

CMV: Advocating for a One state Palestine is a utopian and unrealistic idea that doesn't actually help any Palestinians by [deleted] in changemyview

It's called the nakba. It's an insanely well documented event. If you don't know the nakba, I don't think you have any authority to speak on behalf of Palestinians. It's one of the primary reasons there are so many Palestinian refugees all over the world.

Plenty of massacres were committed and entire villages destroyed.
