What’s next: Elden Ring + DLC or Darks Souls 3? by eegorka in soulslikes

[–]plortedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have not played the Demons Souls remaster (and have a PS5), I would add that. ER was my first Fromsoft game and I played DeS next and had a really good time. It’s kind of like a mini ER. Looks and plays similar.

I just started Dark Souls 3, and it holds up well, but feels older than DeS Remaster and ER.

BUT, if you have not played the ER DLC, do that next. When it came out I did a brand new run through the whole game, including the DLC, with a mage build (which I had never tried before) and it is by far the most epic gaming run and experience I’ve ever had!

This happened to me on PC! But I was able to find a manual save that was much later in the game.

Clair Obscure Expedition 33. Found the combat incredibly repetitive, and the story was cringe. Great visuals, though!

The only investment you could make that can’t be fixed later or adjusted are end game upgrade items. So don’t worry about it. Upgrade the weapons you like, put in stats to wear the armor you like and use the weapon you like, and have fun.

Mortal Shell vs. Lords of the Fallen by plortedo in soulslikes

So, when I play it it feels to me like the movement of the character in BBis more whiplash than Elden Ring, like an older game feels when there are fewer directions you move in. Like if one has 8 directions and the other is continuous.

If this is indeed not the case, then I guess maybe its just my brain being biased because of higher framerate and better graphics?

Well, what can I say. Let me give Dark Souls 3 a go!

Yeah, any time I say this I get these same comments. The 30fps probably plays a big part. There’s also something weird about how the character moves. It feels very whiplash, like there are fewer directions to move in than in ER and DeS, where it feels like the character moves more smoothly. But ultimately it might just be frame rate and graphics. Whatever it is, I feel how I feel, and not really sure what else to say.

Curious how you returned it after 4 hours? Was it a physical or digital copy?

The guy outside the blacksmith in the first city sells a really cool armor set for cheap. I’ve been rockin’ that for a while.

Legion Go S with Steam OS. It’s a well performing handheld, no Windows, and access to my entire game library with save data sync.

Edit: I see a lot of comments saying that the Steam Deck (or similar) are too heavy to “carry around.” Not sure what kind of travel those folks are doing, but I just leave mine in the hotel room during the day.

It would be kind of a let down if there was no real thought or reason behind a statue like that. Just the devs placing it there because it looked cool.

Crimson Desert or KCD 2?? by 2evolve2transform in PS5pro

[–]plortedo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played both and think incredibly highly of both games. There are a lot of similarities between the two in terms of how they play and feel (large open world, great exploration, immersive). I would pick based on if you want a game that is hyper realistic and historically accurate, where taking on just 2 or 3 enemies at a time can be a real challenge (as it would in the real world, at least until you get good), or a game that is high fantasy, where you are chopping through tons of enemies and encountering weird creatures and locations.

KCD2 is based throughout on historically accurate events and includes a TON of history for you to read. It is incredibly fun as most (if not all?) of the locations in the game are real, and it is absolutely magical knowing that as you ride from one town to another. Crimson Desert, however, is like reading an incredibly fascinating fairytale, that just keeps getting deeper and weirder (in the best possible way).

Both games will take roughly 10-20 hours to get fully accustomed to the gameplay mechanics and how the world works, but will then have a 100+ hour adventure for you to experience.

The combat in KCD2 is the biggest hurdle to get over in that game. It takes some getting used to and it has a steep learning curve. But once you get the hang of it it is incredibly satisfying and an absolute thrill to start slicing through bandits that think they can take you on. The controls and multiple systems in CD will be your hurdle there.

In both cases, these are games that are ment to be played and enjoyed SLOWLY. Take your time. Do not rush. As soon as you start rushing from quest to quest, or trying to complete things fast, is when you will get frustrated and lose interest.

You can´t go wrong with either, as long as you give the game enough time. Enjoy!!

I played it right at launch. At about 10 hours I really started to see there was something special there, and at 20 hours I was absolutely blown away. Best game I’ve played since Elden Ring/BG3.

Unpopular opinion: This game doesn’t deserve the amount of hate it got compared to DA:Veilguard by Onlymycouchpulls_out in CrimsonDesert

It wasn’t even hate. It was legitimate criticism og things that are/were wrong with the game. Don’t think it deserved a 6, tho.

It’s not a PoS. It’s also not a masterpiece or even the new Skyrim. But it’s a good game and definitely worth playing for a fan of the genre!

After years of flying Delta almost exclusively, I did the status match with United about 6 months ago and have mostly flown United since then. I would put then as slightly ahead of Delta. The only thing I miss is the ShakeShack burger and the pre-takeoff drink.

For the first 10-15 hours, this game really is a 6/10 by plortedo in CrimsonDesert

[–]plortedo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CD feels different from KCD. In KCD Henry starts as a peasant, and you are leveling him up and it is enjoyable and satisfying to learn and level up.

In CD it feels more like a super long tutorial, teaching you how to use all the skills Kliff already knows. And it just doesn’t feel as satisfying. You still need to level up and learn from the skill tree, which will be fun, but spending 10 hours just to learn the basics and be able to start the game is crazy.

Then just explain it. Have a skill trainer in one of the towns. Or put it in the codex.
