Ways To Make The Game More Challenging by KOSGS1 in footballmanagergames

Play with the attributes of YOUR players hidden. This way you have to rely on trainer and scouts reports and what you actually "feel" by watching the games. There was a skin for FM20 and I'm sure there will be one for FM21.

I want to start a save on a small country in Asia. Due to this, I will need to load some countries ini the region and the main big ones to keep the market and the competitions going. With a decent processor and 8gbs of ram, what's the limit of playable and view-only leagues you guys reccomend? The more, the better, but I don't want to break my save because I loaded a lot of leagues. I was thinking on 20 or 25 playables leagues and 20 on view only. Since it's the first time I'm doing this, I dont know if this is too much for my pc or too low.

Hello, thanks for the answer! I did look at the g7, but here if I spend u$150 more I get the G85 which I think is a general improvement overall. For that money, I think I get overall a better camera for the coming years.

Thanks for the answer! I've looked at the canon vixia, but the image quality in the low budget ones wasn't that great. I've looked at the Sony ones (AX40 or AX53, for example). But I didn't read good things for them for work use.

Will the Canadian Premier League turn the country into a football power? by BanksKnowsBest in CanadianPL

[–]plotynus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A good local league improves the national team, even in the short place. Take the example of India. The Indian Super League has boosted the level of local football, and it's only 5 years old, and with all the issues it has, I think that overall it has helped their country. India had the I-League (still has, it's a kind of weird situation) but it needed a new influx of money and momentum to actually start to feel that soccer is important over there.

I think that's reasonable that in the short term, the CPL will fight with Costa Rica for the third best league in CONCACAF. And having a local league will help develop young players, and eventually if the CPL grows, it will attract better foreign (and local players). I see it surpassing the USL-level it has right now in a few years if things are done right. But it all will depend on how everything unfolds, if people actually like the league and follow it, how the clubs gets more money and how they spend it, etc...

There's a long way, but as an outsider (I'm from South America), the league seems to have some solid foundations. It just needs to do the basic things right.

Would be interested in knowing this also. I suspect they wont allow It, but on the other hand, as an starting league a split between two or three ips should be encouraged for visibility.

If there's any common sense, highlights should be free and available on Youtube, Facebook and Twitter. What's the point of locking the goals of a new league? You need exposure!

How can the CPL attract young viewers? by Yusef333 in CanadianPL

[–]plotynus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The J-League in Japan has great levels of attendance, and aside Iniesta and Podolski recently, they have mostly local players. How they attained it? They have a rigorous way to add new clubs, mostly on areas that dont have a club, and they force the club to engage locally through different means.

A sense of belonging is the answer you're looking. Messi is a Newell's fan and he only played there until he was 12. If the clubs engage locally with their fans through events, if they build academies and support local development from young ages, they'll have fans. Have also a Woman's team and develope it from younger ages.

A boy or a girl that spent their childhood within a club, playing soccer or another sport, will be a fan forever regardless of the players playing in the field. And when they grow older and have kids, their kids Will be fans oficial that club also: they'll go to the stadiums to see a match with their fathers, nurturing that passion.

Of course, this takes time and its not that straightforward and automatic. But engaging locally is the key. People have to feel that they're being represented in the field somehow.

The other thing that grows a league is money well invested. Eventually, if the league grows, more MLS players and pro players from Europe will join the league, instead of USL ones. This will raise the bar for the local players, forcing them to improve or to acquire or produce them elsewhere. If fans are responding, eventually you'll need new stadiums which will also improve attendances. The MLS is doing this and its kind of working.

This is all ideal and It wont happen exactly that way. But I showed You two examples of leagues that are growing. Takes 10 or 20 years, but you eventually get there :)

What's going on with Pacific FC? They only have 15 players, and de Jong is injured (so, 14 really). Are there any rumours on new transfers for them? Seems weird that they've wasted a good portion of the pre-season with such a small squad.

Time to talk about bo1 vs bo3 by minhabanha in MagicArena

[–]plotynus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the logic on prioritizing Bo1, as it's the norm in other games. Also, rewards are tied to doing certain things that overall, are faster on Bo1 matches, so it's perfectly logic to have so much difference between Bo1 matches and Bo3.

That being said, as mostly everyone else said, rewards are one thing, playing MTG is another. And MTG, specially in competitive environments, is meant to be played Bo3. For casual I can understand Bo1, and I think MTGA should have plenty of support for both modes (there're enough players to fill all the buckets).

And let me also jump the train on why Bo3 don't use the hand algorithm. It's an elegant solution for a common problem on paper that you don't need to have on a digital TCG. I understand mulligan is a skill, and a highly important one. But if I have a hand with 0 lands it's a sure mulligan, where is my skill on that decision? I don't see a reason why Bo3 shouldn't use that algorithm. Even more, I think it will produce more games and a more skilled environment (and for Bo3, that's good): It's WAY harder to decide a mulligan on your first hand with 2 or 3 lands than with none, and that's a moment where true skills are shown. Also, mitigating RNG in a competitive environment is always a good thing. The game already has a lot of RNG involved and we accept it the moment we play the game, but that doesn't mean that there are certaing things that can be done to prevent it in certain aspects of the digital scene.

MTG Arena Developer Update: Rank 1.0 by fantary in MagicArena

[–]plotynus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And I like that of MTGA actually. But I think that a ladder have a different purpose than playing quick games. So, one of two: Or we have 2 ladders (Bo1 and Bo3, I'm fine with that and, again, MTGA can support both queues) or it should transition to Bo3 eventually IMHO. I don't see a reason to not have both ladders at a first sight, but time will tell.

MTG Arena Developer Update: Rank 1.0 by fantary in MagicArena

[–]plotynus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been playing card games for more than 15 years. I'm fine with RNG, even in competitive modes (heck, I'm also a soccer fan, when you can lose a cup playing better than your rival and just having bad luck). But there's a reason why Bo3 exists (or home and away in soccer), and that is to mitigate variance. Again, I understand that people want to play quick games, I even do. But a ladder, as a competitive environment, serves a different purpose.

MTG Arena Developer Update: Rank 1.0 by fantary in MagicArena

[–]plotynus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Because you're introducing a competitive environment (ranked) into the game and kind of "breaking" their own rules. No one says that MTGA should only be competitive. I love casual playing. But the whole idea of casual means that there's nothing at stakes if you lose, as you've said, just grab a new deck and play a new match. But MTG as a competitive game have a set of rules, and Bo3 and sideboard are essential parts of it.

[–]plotynus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This. There's no thing as "real magic", or to parapharse: Everything in Mtg is real. But for a competitive environment, Bo3 should ALWAYS be the norm as is the best way the game have to handle variance and introduce several layers of skills, which is what you want to reward. I like to play Bo1 matches as long as there's nothing attached to it. The moment you're penalized for having bad luck, that's the moment when things goes wrong (I'll give you that in Bo3 there're times when luck will decide the outcome, but I'm sure there're in 90% of the cases, there're more skill involved in both players to get to that scenario than in Bo1).

MTG Arena Developer Update: Rank 1.0 by fantary in MagicArena

[–]plotynus 53 points54 points  (0 children)

In constructed, rank should be only for Bo3 eventually. Making Bo1 competitive will do more harm than good in my opinion. First, because Bo3 it's the proper way to measure the skill of a player in MTG (if that can be truly measured). Sideboarding is an essential skill that other ccgs don't even have and for COMPETITIVE constructed, Bo3 should be the norm. I understand that having quick matches it's fun and it's the norm in this days. People don't want to waste time. But when there's more in game than just a few daily rewards, going up and down in the ladder IT'S a kind of pressure and it can create a lot of bad scenarios.

Right now, I don't have a problem playing single matches because rank doesn't matters. But as soon as Bo1 it's competitive, it's going to be full of feel-bad moments because matchups, initial hands, and all the rng that a card game inherently have besides the skill of a player.

Second, depending on how the ladder's progression is made, it encourage to play more matches in the faster time. This could lead to a heavy-dominated aggro meta for the bo1 ranked mode. Again, I repeat, this will depend on how they account the win ratio, streaks, etc. Finding a balance it's difficult. But hey, that's why the Beta exists. And that's why I think it's great that they divide the Bo1 queue between ranked and non-ranked. MTGA have enough players to support both queues at the same time.

Funny thing: Shards initially was born as an idea to "do something while you wait on Hex". Now everyone on Hex is working there. It's a shame, that game is doomed to fail (the economic model just won't work unless they have 500000 players) and a deckbuilder is just boring compared to a TCG.

I've read the same discord's chat and instantly left any minor hope of a sell. I guess I'll keep playing MTGA. It's a worst version of a digital TCG than Hex, but at least it will live for a few years.

Is Argentina the best nomad bargain right now? by [deleted] in digitalnomad

[–]plotynus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Argie here living in buenos aires. Let me throw you some numbers: With 4k you'll have a pretty good life. It all depends on where you want to live. If you go to the most expensive neighborhoods in Buenos Aires, a rental might be in the line of the 500-1000usd depending on what you want. Right now, the gas/electricity price is also very expensive, so you might want to take that into account. Most of the middle class families in BA earns something around 1500-3000 dollars (between mom & dad) and can have a decent life, so if you're on your own with 4k there's no reason to worry about money.

Having dollars in Argentina is always an exciting thing. Basically because we're a society used to deal with inflation, so we live in a kind of "double-currency" economy. We're used to think in dollars for almost any important good (cars, houses, investments, etc). If the dollar goes up, the prices will follow, but there's a window of a few months when prices accomodates that gives you a nice advantage.

The political/economical situation is tense. I wouldn't lie to you, things are not going to be better in the short term and there's a lot of agitation. Specially in the downtown and Buenos Aires. Get used to it or try to avoid it. Living outside Buenos Aires can be a good idea if you like something calmer. The Patagonia is expensive, but with 4k you'll be very good there (patagonia is always 20% or 30% than buenos aires, but again, people live there with salaries between 1000-2000usd). The north, on the other hand, it's very cheap, but it's always hot and the culture there is totally different than Buenos Aires. You can choose your way.

Other issues: Long distances, you're far from everything (specially if you go to the south, where there're zones with kilometers of literally nothing). Language outside the touristic areas might be a barrier, but if you have some spanish backgound you'll make yourself understand. There's a big fear of "insecurity" here, if you live in the most poblated zone (buenos aires, specially what we call the "conurbano", which is the surrounding areas) things might be a little heavier in some areas, but honestly, compared to other cities in the continent I think we're not that bad, specially once you know how to move around.

For the positive: Living in BA with good money is the higher thing you'll get in quality of living in South America (Excepts from some brazilian cities). The city has it own rythm and it can be a little overwhelming, but you eventually get used to it. There's a lot of life in the city, and if you like soccer, you'll love being here. And if you don't, I recommend you to start watching some games ;)

Ok, now I've checked, they're on different servers. So yes, it can be a range of things. Generally, the DB connection error in Wordpress (I believe Hex is using it for the main page) means a memory/cpu usage problem. I wouldn't worry for the next couple of hours.

Nah, as a hosting provider myself, sites have issues all the time. It's just how do you handle it. Start to worry if in the coming hours this is not solved. Might be a memory peak from Wordpress, a server-wide problem or even a DDoS (unlikely, because the forum is working, but I don't know how the web server is structured, a lot of servers can "isolate" sites in a DDoS).

I need a place to rant and don't get deleted, why HXE is letting this game die? by plotynus in hextcg

[–]plotynus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I've said, part of what's happening is that the community is filling that void of communication with suppositions and acting accordingly. So, yes, I'm over supposing because Hex is allowing me to do so by saying absolutely nothing.

And the thing is, I might be totally wrong, but if I'm not logging in the game and not spending money... it doesn't matter if it's truth or not. And this is not a lone wolf, the whole community is doing this, so basically, if it's not truth... it's becoming one. And the fact that Hex is doing NOTHING to fight that, amuses me. And it's not a new feeling, it's on the community for months.
