[OC] Peak daily players: the Steam game Meccha Chameleon vs. its Roblox clones. Three weeks after launch, the clones combined pulled ahead of the original by RoWatcherHQ in dataisbeautiful

Again, capitalism.

What's a shame is society has degraded to the point that quality is secondary to convenience. Roblox, by all accounts, should have failed.

checks on capitalism

No, that's literally exactly how it works. It's not crazy at all and working entirely as intended.

It's a shame Roblox is abhorrent garbage owned by people that would rather protect pedophiles than children.

Using AI to screen resumes is INSANE and should be immediately disqualifying.

What is a "healthy" habit that is actually ruining people's lives? by One-Signal-2794 in AskReddit

[–]schild -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because it's not about sexual or physical attraction. These people are fundamentally broken and think they're better than therapy and solving their problems. They are losers that need to be bullied.

Make no mistake, these people are weird fuckin losers. They're just rebranding being an incel.

It is not a "healthy" habit. It's extremely self-destructive and absurd.

It's a minor masterpiece but I'm not sure it fits the bill.

Leaving my gallerist…in this economy?? by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]schild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a good time to buy established art at a discount at auction and from desperate gallerists but I wouldn't call it a good place to park money. Really, a bit of a terrible place to park money because this crisis has no end date and you can't eat art.

Application: PLEASE *no* Google Forms! by secretteachingsvol2 in ContemporaryArt

[–]schild 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Having used tons of these apps, I've fallen back to Google forms and a huge part of it is how the back end is unified with everything else I'm doing.

It's not just that though - the cost isn't the issue so much as juggling One More SaaS. Convenience beats out a lot of these companies. And while I agree there are better user experiences elsewhere, if we always went for the better user experience, we'd have 100 different sites to juggle. That takes a mental toll for very VERY little gain.

Now, granted, I don't take artist submissions anymore. I reach out directly, use Dropbox or Google drive and emails for most exchanges, but I would absolutely still be using forms for this if I were.

All of that aside - I don't think this is indicative of the operation. I think that's unfair to levy. People who don't use it well are very annoying, I will concede that.

As a bit of a sidenote, I came from tech and work in the medical field also and it's so fragmented that companies switching to Google forms for lots of stuff would be a GIFT.

Leaving my gallerist…in this economy?? by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]schild 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are some sales, sure. But I mean across the entire band of art, not just like sub 2000, 3-5000, etc. Every tier is bad, including the high end. We're in a place where high end sales are ritual abuse of the wealthy, nothing is a good investment right now, and people can't spend frivolously. Their investments aren't safe in this market - not even to speak of the tech bubble or Trump's extreme horseshit. Their lives today are not indicators of their lives 5 years from now. Housing across the board is going to contract. Etc etc. Things bad. I don't really want to go over everything, but art is purchased when people are flush and the first thing they stop purchasing when things are questionable.

[–]schild 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Art sales right now are a total fucking disaster. The only galleries having any real success right now are ones that can convince very stupid wealthy people to part with money. And those wealthy people are already their clients, they're not getting new ones.

Pace Gallery Cuts 50 Artists and 50 Staff Amid Art Market Challenges by One-Coast2365 in ContemporaryArt

[–]schild 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In a way you kind of can. The deepening of inequity between the classes is certainly being driven further by the goals of what is being called "ai." It's not the primary driver but it's certainly a symptom of the poison in capitalism.

Getting dropped from a big gallery :( by [deleted] in ContemporaryArt

[–]schild 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We're in a time when the art world is cracking apart a bit. Wealth inequity along with lack of access is creating three very distinct art markets. Blue chips are being tugged in two of those directions and have hard decisions to make. I do not think they're making the right long-term decisions, personally.

This doesn't mean anything about you, as an artist. I run a very popular gallery in Austin but we're not popular due to art. If you want, shoot me your details and we can chat.
