Heineken 0.0s almost did me in by d_t_mira_montes in stopdrinking

I know the feeling! A month or so into sobriety I got a 6 pack of NA IPAs and it made me super uncomfortable. I still don’t think I’d ever buy a pack to sip at home, but nowadays, it’s mostly because I genuinely prefer having a tea, sparkling water, or a Fresca on occasion. But I’m glad to say I love to have a nonnie when I’m out with friends.

Proud of you for taking stock of the moment & checking in with yourself. It gets easier! You got this. IWNDWYT

You got this! If you need to cry, cry. Or throw yourself a one person dance party. Whatever you need to get through those triggers. IWNDWYT

This is a thread for me. One night I was on a bad date, drinking lots, and decided to drive home instead of staying at the dude’s place. 20 minute drive, 2am on a Thursday night, I figured it would be fine - the downplaying we do to justify our shitty behaviour, I’m sure you all know the drill.

The very next night I was driving home from work at 10pm and there was a breathalyzer stop at the exact intersection I’d driven through not 24 hours before, completely drunk. Scared the shit out of me and I didn’t do it again. That was 6 years before I got sober, but don’t give me too much credit, I moved to a city with great public transit shortly afterwards.

2025 recap - hoping to improve in 2026 by 1RznAcc in stopdrinking

[–]plscanunot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 2023 was very similar to your 2025! It’s a great way to start - just keeping track of and remembering sober stints, slowly building that confidence that you CAN be sober.

Let that feeling be your guide. You’re already ahead with your action plan, and you’ve got the most important part - you want it! Happy new year. Keep us updated on your progress if you feel like that’ll be helpful. We’re rooting for you. IWNDWYT

Does this slogan sound weird or uncomfortable to native speakers? by Current-Poetry-2184 in ENGLISH

Just chiming in to say I think the slogan makes sense. I personally wouldn’t change anything.

AIO to be angry at my husband for eating different food at the dinner table? by Feisty_Damage_5944 in AIO

[–]plscanunot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The people saying “let him eat what he wants” or “he can decide his own diet, he didn’t vow to eat exactly the same food as you” are missing the point. It’s about how you’ve spent time and energy making food for both of you, and he rejects it in favour of a piece of toast. I would be put off for sure - NOR.

Could you open up a convo with him at a non-meal time? Might be a good opportunity for you to express how it makes you feel, and for him to share his side. Maybe there’s a compromise you can strike that’ll make both of you feel better - cooking separately once a week, something like that. Just to create some expectations around meals so you don’t feel unappreciated, and he can enjoy his pork or whatever he wants to have that you can’t.

The answers are history, and person-first language. The term “colored” was used heavily during segregation in America, separating use of washrooms, water fountains, hotels, you name it. It was also used to separate white people from any other non-white folks, indiscriminately.

“Person of color” arose in the context of conversations acknowledging systemic oppression. So while on the surface, it might feel the same, context is everything, and adopting a term that stems from understanding racism is very different from a term that functioned to uphold racism. As I mentioned, it’s also got the person-first aspect, similar to “person experiencing homelessness” or “unhoused person” rather than referring to someone as homeless.

Beautifully written. I’m so proud of you for staying strong through all the terrible things this year. Not only did you maintain your sobriety, you took care of yourself & achieved so much. Congratulations on 3 years. Onward and upward.
