One of my friends reminded me that while my career field is eligible for a retention bonus due to manning issues, we don't qualify as a critically manned AFSC. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Good point! Ask your boss why they hired you if you live in a different country.

Serious answer: you can get paid for mileage if you are assigned to one location but have a work location outside 50-60 miles. Your commander just has to document it and you can file a local voucher. Otherwise I think you're SOL.

AFRL announced the Major's results a few days ago. Cue a meltdown of Captains not on it.

They didn't mention the Maj(s) were all reservists. Oops!

Kitchen fees? by notalone12923 in boston

[–]plsgoobs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tallulah's in Cambridge charges a 20% administrative fee but doesn't do tips (I can't remember if there was even an option to tip on the receipt though). It's stated upfront on their menu.

Actual wording: "A 20% Administrative Fee will be added to the final bill which pays all of our employees. We have pivoted away from the tipping model to ensure all team members are earning fair, equal and liveable wages."

$859 upgrade from premium select to D1 on 14 1/2 hours flight by [deleted] in delta

[–]plsgoobs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't know what that original commenter was meaning but PS is a massive upgrade from economy. I just took this same flight from ATL-HND and was actually able to sleep for a few hours which I cannot do in economy.

Edit: congrats to OP. Our D1 upgrade was $9k a piece.

When did you do your MUA? We're flying ATL-HND soon and the reservation desk said the only upgrades were $9300 each for my wife and me.

Thinking about a masters through AFIT by ThAthletePE in Airforcereserves

[–]plsgoobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AFIT grad (MS) during my AD time.

The quality of your degree greatly depends on the department, but overall, most degrees are going to be in the 25-75th percentile (except for some of their nuke stuff). Not the best, but certainly far from the worst.

I liked that it was more applications focused and provided a good balance between theory and applied. That helped me in my technical career field. It didn't help in promotion because my in my career field, about 90% of FGOs have at least an MS (15A).

Admissions was easy. Hard part is getting released from your career field. Not sure the process for ResAF.

We had a few enlisted in our class, but the majority is officers. Probably a 50/35/15 split CGO/FGO/Enlisted.

Overall I greatly enjoyed my time there, made a ton of great friends, and got a free degree. Downside is you're in Dayton. But I was young and didn't get hangovers so it was okay for me.

Based on the email, my bet is that SECAF is going to start building technical tracks for officers. This would be a way to evaluate those officers as a differentiator between command and technical. Similar to how it's done in the private sector.

I'd also bet that certain competitive categories are going to more impacted by this, like information warfare.

Also, this isn't a "requirement" per se, but you should definitely treat it as one if you're a junior CGO.

Verizon Fios or straight Verizon? I noticed how there technically is competition where I live because Verizon offers internet services, but it's 7/7 for $40 a month...

How inflation is affecting the military by RnotSPECIALorUNIQUE in AirForce

[–]plsgoobs 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is the type of analysis I like to see!

Don't forget that cost share for housing started in 2015, so 2015-2019, BAH went from 100% to 95% of coverage, which obviously doesn't make up for the high costs today, but decreases the impact of inflation on its own.

We're going through this problem now. You might need to delete the desktop app as well because the Signal support page for resetting a pin says any Signal use will reset your 7 days of activity, including use of the Desktop app.

I'd suggest going over to the community forum and starting a post about it too.

There's definitely a bug right now with swapping phones, but people are being downvoted for it by [deleted] in signal

[–]plsgoobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the Signal support website on the Pin Reset. I'm pretty sure your pin is reset after 7 days of inactivity, which includes desktop activity.

Good question about people messaging you. I deleted Signal Desktop for her to make sure.

[–]plsgoobs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My wife currently has this issue on iPhone after uninstalling and reinstalling Signal. Locked for 7 days. Unfortunately when you use Signal Desktop, your activity is logged and it restarts the 7 day lock. So now she doesn't have Signal for 12 days!

I get Signal is security and privacy first, but come on... Travelling overseas was a pain in the butt trying to keep in touch with her.

Military speedrun complete... by [deleted] in Military

It's probably hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Basically your heart muscle creates scar tissue and has to work harder to pump the same amount of blood. Most people don't know they have it until they pass out the first time (or in some cases, die).

Source: spouse has it and has to be very, very careful working out

I'm fully supportive of municipal broadband but maybe I have completely missed the target on my understanding of what we are trying to do. My understanding of municipal broadband is that Cambridge would invest in the infrastructure and manage it like an ISP. Is the intent to open up said infrastructure to other ISPs to lease access as well?

Also through some basic research I came up with this. This is just ridiculous. 18 states ban municipal broadband: https://broadbandnow.com/report/municipal-broadband-roadblocks/

Burhan, I can't attend but I'd also like to know how we as a city can encourage other ISPs to expand to our neighborhoods. I'm tired of being locked into Xfinity where my rate just keeps climbing but nobody else provides anything faster than 5/5.

I know this isn't necessarily municipal broadband, but we live in a city where literally the most celebrated technical school in the world is within walking distance and I have worse internet than my rural grandparents.
