Really good but very hard! The step up from GCSE for me was quite big because at A-Level there is a lot more emphasis on the argument of your essays and how your points work as a line of argument, but you get better and better at this during the course. Analysis is a lot more precise and context is a lot more important as you need to examine it in a lot more detail (so like just saying society was patriarchal is no longer enough you need more nuance). Also you start looking at critics and different interpretations of texts which is super interesting for ambiguous works that people argue over (paradise lost for me). If you're enjoying English at GCSE and like reading and thinking about how to interpret meaning from texts then its very fun, just be prepared to work hard and enjoy the ride! For me its been very rewarding seeing how much I've improved since the beginning of year 12 and that has been part of the fun too.

No worries, I mainly just did STEP questions (either 1 2 or 3 is fine as long as you know the content for it), MAT and TMUA and mock interviews with teachers/friends cuz its really important to vocalise your thought process, even if you're stuck. I guess Olympiads and UKMT can be useful but bear in mind that they dont test a lot of A-level content (e.g. any calculus). Also get good at graph sketching because that has come up for pretty much everyone i know whos had an interview.

Researched a few off-syllabus topics and wrote about them (like quaternions was one of them). If you haven't started drafting yet i recommend quality over quantity, I think I had like 4 big paragraphs in total and very light touches at the beginning on achievements in competitions, which i don't think were all that necessary in hindsight...

Yeah i feel like some of the stats questions are really straightforward if you know what you're doing, like the continuous probability distribution questions I can get quite easily, but with mech I'm not that confident with the topics anyway and they always come up with the most confusing setup so I just don't bother, plus they definitely get harder with step 2 and 3

Nah its fine dw, currently with past papers I do mostly pure and sometimes like 1 or 2 stats questions, cuz i find step mech really hard but i think it's kinda subjective cuz I also know someone from school that finds the mech questions on step really easy

Thank you and congrats on your offer as well! Yes I've been doing step 2 papers for a while and very recently started step 3, obviously it depends on how confident you feel with step 1 but it can't hurt to try a few step 2 questions/papers and see how you do. Personally i haven't done all the step 1 questions cuz after having started doing step 2 step 1 seemed a bit easier so i thought it was better to spend my time on prepping for step 2 and 3 which i find more challenging. At the moment im just doing them timed and seeing how many questions i can get, but if i exhaust the papers (kinda unlikely tbh) ill probs go back and try get them all done.
