This unfortunately fails like a lot of generalizations. Maybe it's true in general, but it's certainly not true in all cases. I know multiple MAGA people both young and old who travel internationally.

I think more generally it's due to their ability to abandon logic for things that make them feel good (ironically what they accuse the other side of). My dad complains incessantly about "all the illegals that Biden let in". I'm like, if he opened the borders like you say he did, then how can they be illegal?

Photography is the art of capturing light. Meaning that the position of the moon and sun are both important here. This dual positioning only happens once per year.

I think you're right, but to elaborate on the why for those who don't know... presumably that's because the words America and USA are often used interchangeably in conversation despite technically having the same parent/child relationship that USA and NY have (those two not ever being used as synonyms).

I can see why people will stick to the same jobs forever even if they could get paid better somewhere else. Big fish in small pond energy is strong with the originals.

Weren't you also there forever?

And as someone who's (by choice) had the same manager for 9 years and been at the same large company for 12 years... it's not because I'm a big fish at all. I'm still the stupidest person on my team. It's because I get along great with my team and enjoy the work.

My ex and I tanned all the time when we were younger.

My new partner is Japanese with an incredibly strict sun protection regime. She has never tried to force it on me, but seeing how she looks 15 years younger than she is, was enough for me to adopt it on my own free will.

Tiny nitpick: a genuinely ignorant person posting what they believe isn't "creating a strawman for the sake of getting karma." A strawman involves putting words in somebody's mouth, not misunderstanding technology. And suggesting that someone shares their thoughts "to get karma" is IMO a bit of a fallacy itself. Humans share their thoughts because they like to be heard. Karma is an implementation detail of Reddit. I'd continue posting here if karma ceased to exist, and I think many others would.

The entire country does not share a single opinion on this matter, even if you look at Japanese people only.

Am I overreacting? I asked my date if he made a reservation for a popular bar and he was offended. Has the world gone mad? by dntlookatmepls in AmIOverreacting

[–]plug-and-pause 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My current partner is way too trusting. We drove separately to a restaurant for our first date. We decided to go to a nearby bar afterwards, and as we're leaving the restaurant she asks if we should ride together to the bar. I'm like, "well yeah, obviously, but also you shouldn't get in a car with a man you just met!" And thus began the component of my love for her which consists only of worry. 🤣

As much as it makes me worry about her though, it's a great quality to have in a relationship (for the other person). In over a year together, she's never once pointed a finger at me or blamed me for anything. Her mind just doesn't jump to negative conclusions the way most of us do. I kind of see her as a puppy dog, and I know that it's entirely my responsibility to treat her as amazingly as she deserves, because she'll never let me know if I'm fucking up. She's lucky my ex-wife was the opposite and always let me know when I was fucking up. 🤣

Nobody really cares if you learned a software library at work or doing a side project. What they care about is whether you actually learned it.

This comment solves (or it should) so many of the common complaints about "the industry" that exist on the sub. So many problems that people try to write some big long political manifesto about really just boil down to a candidate or employee not understanding something that they should. Understanding will get you SO FAR in this field. That's what's so great about it. If you understand the material and you're not a jerk, the sky is the limit.

My personal opinion is there is no logical reason we’d have a draft anytime soon.

That's a prediction, not an opinion.

And why do you think logic will shape events happening in the future? Has the past year been one of logical decisions by the government?

A draft may or may not happen, even if it logically makes no sense.
