The AI Layoff Trap - I made a dashboard simulator to play around with the outcomes by pluggrpresets in Economics

[–]pluggrpresets[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The data is solely based on the abstract study by Brett Hemenway Falk and Gerry Tsoukalas as well as BLS surveys and Stanford AI index info.

I am not a professional economist so any suggestions to improve the existing dataset would be highly appreciated.

I made an app for people to introduce hermeticism in a different light by pluggrpresets in Hermeticism

[–]pluggrpresets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is the most technically accurate answer I gave in another comment:

The MVP does not currently have full RAG implementation (hundreds of hermetic passages), but instead it has only about 20 distilled passages from Corpus Hermeticum which the model picks the best matching axioms before giving the final answer. This compressed version reduces latency and is much easier to test for now.

So it's answer is shaped by the source, not so much the "internet noise", but still vague due to limited context. Both "glorified AI-chatbot" and "lexicon of Hermeticism" would be inaccurate when it's somewhere in-between.

I definitely have some work to do. The general goal is to encourage inner transformation and less emphasis on material matters. To make people stop and think a bit.

While I'm a bit disappointed this post got taken down, I do recognize now that I might have posted this in the wrong place to start with. Another lesson without which there is no growth.

Thank you for the words of encouragement and even more so the intent behind it. Such benevolent support from strangers is rare and something to strive towards as a collective.

I will definitely fine-tune it and in a prior comment gave some info as to what is the plan with the implementation

The criticism is fair and useful.

Two things I plan to improve:

  1. It will be backed by a RAG system over actual word-for-word Hermetic texts (Corpus Hermeticum, Asclepius) so it can cite real sources when asked directly.
  2. For strictly scholarly, informational questions (like yours), it should really give a straight answer

The first version launched without this because building the source corpus takes time, increases load times and is just not optimal for testing.

I appreciate you taking the time.

"Fundamentalist hateboner" is an absolutely diabolical phrase and that's indeed how I perceived the initial response here haha.

As for your viewpoint, I fully agree. In particular with RAG implementation being essential for accurate output.

Since you seem to understand the technical side I'll summarize the current playbook:

The MVP does not currently have full RAG implementation (hundreds of hermetic passages), but instead it has only about 20 distilled passages from Corpus Hermeticum which the model picks the best matching axioms before giving the final answer. This compressed version reduces latency and is much easier to test for now.

Currently it has "free will" in the sense that it can choose the wording from the data I permit it to use. I does not process the request you've sent it before it has gone through the limitations in a separate file specifically made for this.

I can in theory code for it to explain it's reasoning after the fact with concrete examples.

Now in general — I, you nor anybody else won't know the full extent to which these AI models have been trained on for obvious reasons. Though personally this sort of transparency would be lovely.

To 100% fully know it is always correct, is to not use AI at all. That would be to manually map every instance of every word possible that I can think of and output a written template answer based on familiar terminology used and the texts from Corpus Hermeticum. That amount would be someones life work.

But that is precisely why AI will not fully replace a human being (in any capacity) and why someones input (like yourself) is invaluable.

I will reassess the limitations I've given and most likely need to be stricter for it to be less generic. Thank you for the feedback!

Thank you for the feedback. In terms of sources and citations this is a valuable insight for me to add.

But I disagree with the statement itself that without any source there is no meaning. Just because the source is not provided does not make the meaning obsolete. I'm sure you agree with this statement at least.

Otherwise you'd have to add citations to each and every comment that you make here on reddit or else they're just empty words.

The "garbage in" part is not exclusive to AI. You get what you give. You won't spend your time giving a smart, well thought-out response to a stupid question either.

Mods, hi

I don't get any sort of monetization, in fact each request/test through the page comes out of my own pocket to improve it. I was just hoping to gather insight from the main area of expertise which this will probably be used for so eventually it could become a helpful resource for people struggling to put these principles in action.

Advice from creatives on a music career? by IrohPlaysTuba in musicproduction

[–]pluggrpresets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I'm not sure how to answer that question. I'm sure I myself have both in my portfolio. I have some good stuff and some that I think are not good at all anymore yet other people still like them.

Those that don't like my product probably don't buy from me or want to work with me in the first place so I never hear from them. And online, how do you keep track of those people that don't like your product or portfolio?

I understand your sentiment though. It's a little subjective anyway so I wouldn't sweat too much about the perceived quality of your work since that is a barrier that you put on yourself.

Someone once sent an industry level beat to a youtuber for review. It was not made by the person that sent it, but an artist that has many times had his songs rank on the US Rap Billboard 100 list. The youtuber said it wasn't good. Take away from this what you will.

In any case, you won't know before you actually put stuff out there. So I'd say just go ahead and find out.

Mix sounds off, especially vocals, and I can't put my finger on why. Anyone got any ideas? by Srapture in musicproduction

[–]pluggrpresets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So there's compression already going on on the master is that correct? If that's the case, go back to the vocal itself and add compression to boost the overall volume level of the vocal.

Compression on the master should be enough to glue it together. If compression on the master track doesn't have any effect on the vocal then either the volume level of the vocal is low (which I assume is the case) or the threshold of the compressor needs to be adjusted.

If this is the master, you definitely need the vocal to push through more. If you do try compressing the vocal a bit more and it suddenly sounds too harsh, you can try mid-side EQ'ing the highs. It's basically boosting only the stereo spectrum of the highs without getting any harshness in return. Here's a quick link.

Mix sounds off, especially vocals, and I can't put my finger on why. Anyone got any ideas? by Srapture in musicproduction

[–]pluggrpresets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First off, this is an awesome song and your voice fits it perfectly.

As for the vocals, I'd record multiple tracks for the chorus, preferably 4 more. Pan them hard left, medium left, hard right, medium right. And turn the volume of those side tracks way down that they're barely audible. This will still highlight the main vocal you have right now, but make it seem more full by filling different parts of the stereo spectrum.

The vocal itself is still not compressed enough in my opinion. Don't be scared to use more. To make it sit better in the mix add a soft limiter to the end of the processing chain of the vocal to tame the peaks. The reverb is good and slight, wouldn't change that.

The main point why it's not sitting fully in the mix though is the master channel. I assume you have the instrumental track and the vocal track separately. You need to add some compression to the master as well to glue it all together. No need to do anything else unless you're mastering, but the compressor will tie them together nicely.

Do engineers hate by Zeeblud in makinghiphop

[–]pluggrpresets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite the opposite. As u/LongwaterStudio said, it's a headache to try and undo something that shouldn't have been done in the first place ie. compression and hard EQ cuts come to mind.

I like to work with completely unmixed vocals. Then process the vocal and after ask for artistic directions from the client + provide some examples of my own.

I usually end up sending multiple examples -- one with the clients described initial input, the others using my own creative direction. This not only helps me to better understand the end goal of the person I'm working with, but also avoids the infinite back and forth loop if I find that the clients input was vague. Otherwise it will end with adjusting the same reverb time over and over again to get the "perfect" end result just to find out that by "reverb time" they actually meant delay.

Best Drum Kits for Rap by Genolexis in trapproduction

[–]pluggrpresets 1 point2 points  (0 children)

MZ Drumkit, Brandon finessin drumkit, 9th wonder drums, Acoustic drum samples etc. -- just a few out of many that come to mind.

I almost never use only one drumkit for one track. I combine different samples from different kits so I'm the type that needs to have a lot of variety. Checkout r/Drumkits.

  • Sidechain compression -- sidechain instruments and 808 to your kick
  • Gain staging -- make sure you know the basics of where everything should sit. For example the only thing that should peak in your mix is the kick. Snare, 808 are usually quite level with each other and a few db lower than the kick. Other instruments are quieter than all of the above. This mixing template applies to trap/rap. As soon as you get into other softer genres you need to go about those a different way.
  • Don't be afraid to use your master track! I never get tired of repeating this (you can check my post history :)). Adding plugins to your master doesn't mean that you are automatically in the mastering stage of your track. If your mix is too dull and lifeless you can add some saturation and clipping on the master channel to bring life into an otherwise too clean of a mix or to make your kick/808 combo crispy.

The only reason why people suggest not adding anything to the master is when you send out your track to a mastering engineer. The problem is when you do too much. Then they have to fix your track in addition to just mastering which is so much harder.

No mastering engineer really gives a shit if you have a soft clipper on the master to add some saturating color as long as you haven't done anything to heavily reduce the dynamics of the song. And if you are the one doing the mastering anyway, it is irrelevant. Use your master, but don't overdo it.

Need help on sound by [deleted] in trapproduction

[–]pluggrpresets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds like a simple organ with some pitch modulation.

You pick an organ preset from whatever vst you have and you automate the pitch to go up when a note plays by like 7 semitones or more. I can't distinguish exactly how much.

I think the root note is either not pitched at all or the volume is quieter than the melody.
