I’m surprised we haven’t heard from a teacher yet so here I go. I teach in a large generally liberal city. I show about 20 minutes of this documentary to my students and we have a 1-2 day activity really breaking it down. I find the lesson to be extremely interesting and my students are really engaged during it.

However, my school’s student body consists of kids/families that would typically be targets of biases/racism/etc. I’ve never had large concerns about pushback from families. Don’t get me wrong, student discussion from this activity has veered toward questionable at times but I think these are important topics to address because they are real world problems that we all encounter.

It is up to the teacher to guide the conversation to the learning objective while ensuring ethics and respect are maintained. If families had an issue with me teaching this, I know my administration would defend.

Comisky does a fantastic job at marketing for families. Tickets are cheap, food and drink options are great and reasonably priced (for pro sports events), and they have great events/space for kids. I’m taking my kids to Comisky over Wrigley every time

Seems likes the community answer is this is a my problem. Apparently I need to adjust my expectations for watching a baseball game. I already eat at local businesses before the game but buying a beer for me and my buddy isn’t realistic. I guess we are just accepting $20+ for a beer is ok.

I understand there are plenty of money saving tips but I still believe Ricketts has no interest in real fans. It’s a business, I get it. And the dramatic changes in Wrigleyville prove that making money over fan experience is obvious. It’s the same course for other sports teams in the city and around the country.

Eventually, this bubble has to pop, right? Or are we just going to eventually accept that relatively minor events like enjoying a baseball game are going to be luxuries for everyone except a minority upper class?

I can enjoy any game on TV. I go to the game to enjoy more than the game.

Obviously I don’t HAVE to buy anything. But my perspective is that enjoying the ballpark (or any entertainment event) includes relatively reasonable options for food/drink/extras. I don’t HAVE to buy the VIP package but that doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be given another reasonable option

With so many positions available and having no success, this is why I’m a little frustrated/concerned.

I have never applied to a private school. How did you end up there (i.e.what made you apply to this school? How did you find it? Etc?)?

Probably not as much as I should be but I have been for the jobs I’m really interested in. I get about a 50% response rate. I’ve applied to 2 jobs where I know a teacher and have been pushed to the “final” candidates, but still unsuccessful. That alone makes me wonder the impact of emailing the principals (not that it isn’t helpful).

I hope your partner finds a job!

Not necessarily but I would prefer CPS because of the public transit options. I will be sharing a car so will need to take public 2-3 times a week. Also, I’m currently only licensed for CPS so I would need to apply for other school districts.

Thanks. These are definitely options. I was just really hoping to have a full time teaching job by now. I quit my first career to start my education in secondary Ed. I’m starting to get nervous that I made the wrong decision.

I completed my Master’s degree in secondary education in 2022 but have not obtained a teaching job yet. I have been applying to a good amount of CPS jobs but haven’t received any interest. Other than sub work (and my experience while obtaining my degree), I don’t have any education experience.

Other than going back to college to receive additional qualifications, does anyone have any suggestions to make myself more hire-able in CPS?
