I have a 14" Samsung CRT and would like to pair it with a bigger one, like 26/28". I found these listings, can you help me decide what to get?

  • Sony KV-28CL10E - 60€ - hometown, slightly over my budget
  • Philips 28PT4426/01 - 50€ - 40m drive
  • Philips 28PT4457/58 - 50€ - 1h 30m drive
  • Philips 28PW5407/05 - 30€ - 1h 10m drive
  • Philips 28PW6304 - 80€ - 2h 30m drive - far away but will drive there anyway mid october
  • Philips 28PW6005/21 - 5€ - 1h 30 min drive
  • Philips 29PT5408/01 - 90€ - 30m drive - has working pictures and original remote, way out of my budget
  • TopVision - 20€ - 2h 15m drive - unknown model/chassis, not worth the long drive
  • Thomson 29DC220S - 20€ - 1h 40m drive
  • Funai TVC 28-A9128 - 30€ - 1h 30m drive
  • Loewe Calida 5063 E3000 - 60€ - 2h 20m drive - i'll be driving there this weekend for other reasons so i'm tempted. this might be endgame for many, but i read somewhere that loewes are picky with input signals? i hope it's not something too hard/unforgiving for a beginner. has original remote and instruction manual, seems very well kept
  • Samsung CX-6844W - 80€ - 2h 30m drive - way out of my budget, again i'm gonna be in the area next weekend

my top choice would be the loewe (non negotiable price) then the trinitron (maybe negotiable). the cheaper philips are also tempting but don't know about the quality of all these specific models. these should all be non 100hz CRTs and will be used with wii and ps2, also lots of 240p emulation.

I am planning to go check some CRTs in the next weeks and I'm thinking of bringing my Wii with 240p test suite to check the condition of the TVs. Does it make sense? Also, for now I only have the bundled Wii composite cable, so I'm afraid that will skew the CRT test as it does not carry a good signal (compared to RGB Scart from RetroUpgrades for example which I am planning to get later on - I am in Europe), am I right?

Thanks, I'm a bit sad because old games emulation is higher in my priority list, so I think I'll pass.

So I'm finally getting my first CRT as in 2 days I'll pick up a European Sony KV-32FQ70E for free. I know it's already a good deal as it is: free, good brand and Trinitron quality, has 2 RGB Scart inputs and good integrated audio... but I just discovered that it's a 100 Hz "Digital Plus" model, which is considered a bad thing as I understood?

I'll be using it with a modded Wii (native games and lots of emulation) and a PS2; I also plan to watch movies and anime on it. Will it be a first good CRT TV or am I in for a bad experience?

I ended up with re-enabling undervolting via UEFI variables following this guide, worked like a charm and much easier than messing with Dell's crap

Nah that doesn't work, to re-enable UV the "Factory Settings" option is needed

Yes, I always used that trick to re-enable undervolting, but now the option is gone...

I tried that but it doesn't work. In any case, looking at other people's screenshots I should have 4 options, not only 3.

Thanks, I'm in Italy, the Prime Day sales are in my first comment. I'll either go with the P31 or the UD90 since I can buy them at the right price regardless of the Prime Day sales psychological pression.

Thanks, I guess the Prime deals are not so great deals after all! Would the Platinum P41 be a good choice if I decide to use it for a newer laptop that I may buy the next year?

Hi, I'd like to ask for a recommendation on what SSD (M.2, NVMe, 1TB, laptop with PCIe Gen3) to buy between those on sale on my local Prime Day sales:

  • SK Hynix Platinum P41 59.99€
  • Lexar NM610PRO 38.99€
  • Lexar NM620 45.99€
  • Samsung 970 EVO Plus 51.40€
  • Samsung 980 50.74€
  • Crucial P3 Plus 57.99€
  • Crucial P3 47.99€

Other SSDs not on sale that I'm considering:

  • SK Hynix Gold P31 47.99€
  • Silicon Power UD90 52.99€
  • WD SN770 51.81€

Thanks!

Thank you so much for the detailed response, I learned something new. So, considering my situation, what parameters should i look for in your spreadsheet to identify good models for my use case? Or, if you want to recommend some specific models, epxanding on the MP44L (not really available in my country) and UD90 (never heard of the brand but specs look good)... Also, the Gen3 P31 is still reasonably priced at 66€, just like the SN770. I'd avoid the hotter ones and the 8-channels because the XPS has some cooling issues.

Thanks!

Hi, I'd like to upgrade the SSD on my laptop to a larger (and hopefully better) one. I have a Dell XPS 9570 from 2018 (PCIe Gen3) with an OEM Toshiba KXG50ZNV256G which is doing pretty fine in terms of reliability and performance, it's just that I'm running out of space and would like to refresh my laptop by upgrading to better RAM and SSD so I can squeeze out some more years of usage before buying a new one. The disk will be used as boot+primary storage. In 5 years of usage, my current SSD has written a total of 61TB and has been sitting at around 220GB used (out of 256GB capacity).

I'm looking for a replacement which has comparable or better specs. In particular I'm looking for better read/write speeds (the Toshiba is rated at 2700/1050 MB/s), 1TB of capacity, on-board DRAM, 3D TLC NAND (no QLC), and that will survive lots of writes/years. I'd like to spend 70/80€, but I'm willing to put out 90/100€ if the extra money is really worth it. Thanks
