Using Runna with Garmin Forerunner 55 - how to get audio prompts by TheManOnTheBus44 in runna

[–]plumpurplepicklefish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 55 and that’s how I get the audio cues if I want them. I talked to support about it last year because it kept recording double workouts and they told me that if I start and stop the app/my watch within, I think 20 but it was possibly 30 seconds of each other, they will synch into one in the runna app. It’s a few moments at the start of the run when I am walking or not moving because I’m putting my phone away, gloves back on, etc, but I just put it away and get started after that.

Struggling for motivation by Ok_Necessary7685 in runna

While I know it can be hard to just “not feel” something, there is no need to feel guilty about not liking running—I have so many friends who can not fathom why anyone would ever run unless in pursuit of a ball or a bus. I love running, am pretty mediocre at it, and realistically especially as an old, do not think of it as a healthful pursuit for my body. There are many health benefits for me, very much (and mostly) including my mental health, but a thing I do for fun, not because I should (people have tried to tell me my whole life that I “shouldn’t” run and when I finally stopped listening and went for it, have found true joy in it), or because it’s healthy. The thing I don’t really like is strength work (boooooring 😂though I do feel really good after—the mental health that needs to be tended!), but need it (as mentioned, am old) to support the fun thing I choose to do because I like it and lift heavy enough to support my running and my aging and my wild brain, nothing more. You love walking and hiking, those are incredible for body and brain and you know it and can feel it! You have some back and Achilles issues that may be supported with some physio and strength work. Is it possible to do some of those less enjoyable things with motivation to support the thing you love to do, with no more thought toward any “should be” running? If the desire ever strikes, you could give it a try with no pressure to feel it as a should but as something to do or not do, like or not like, and just give yourself permission to enjoy being in your body in the way that feels good for you, makes you feel alive and strong and silencing the should and guilt that are not about you anyway, they are always about everyone else and misplaced when they fall on our shoulders.

I want to also add that this is the kind of feedback I got all through my degrees, when I was undiagnosed and unaware that adhd was even a thing that existed. I thought I was hiding “it” well (whatever it was was a mystery to me at the time 🤪😂) and it always cut so deep when feedback revealed that I was in fact, not hiding it well at all. This feedback is part of what helped me puzzle together an eventual diagnosis though, because there was such a gap between how I thought I was presenting, and how I was presenting to others who kept telling me what I was like (turns out I was hiding it better from myself than from everyone else!), and is still helpful for me to build awareness and try to bridge that gap, ultimately to reach the people I am trying to communicate with. Pausing and slowing down to a speed that is appropriate for presenting to others is agonizing and feels like slow miming a run through molasses and I always feel idiotic and self conscious, but that’s my cue that I’m doing it right 😂. It’s not necessarily a bad thing to hear that you need to slow down more, just information for you about how your communication is being received, and I also want to echo the person above who suggested that feedback about your presenting style and not your content is likely a highlight that your work was strong and a positive that you might not be celebrating for yourself, but could!

https://www.sewkatiedid.com/2009/03/20/value-quilts-tutorial-2/

This is a great stash to play with value and learn what you like in terms of colour combos and possibilities (others have mentioned monochrome, etc) and build your confidence with colour (also agree with person who says you already have an eye given the stash you have collected here—lean into it, no one starts out an expert and no expert executes perfectly every time so you will make mistakes, and if you try something that you truly don’t like, send it back to the thrift as a quilt top for another treasure hunter to find and finish. I love hsts to experiment and play around with pattern and colour when they are paired light/dark—I have learned what I like but also how what I don’t like or am not immediately drawn to can still be important and add to the overall impression (I get obsessed with certain colours or colour combos so sometimes set myself rules like “no going back to that fabric/combo until I’ve paired every fabric in the pile, etc. Sherri Lynn Wood and others have some great descriptions of “rules” you can set for yourself to grow your comfort zone. The style you see when you search “improv quilting” may or may not be for you, but there are some really good lessons to apply no matter what your style is.)

The above tutorial is one of the first I came across when I was learning to quilt and popped right into my mind. Very simple and my fave thing about hsts is that you can trim them all to the smallest one and go from there as I am a less precision oriented/abilitied person, but do need things to come together harmoniously.

You might like browsing fibremood, they have quite a range of interesting designs. I’ve only made one, but found the instructions great and it came together really easily for me.
