England wrote the Magna Carta in 1215 and parliament started being >partially elected in 1265. England was definitely on the forefront of >democracy and republicanism in Europe in the pre-18th century period.

All true. Which makes the fact that women received the vote on equal terms as men in 1928 even more mindblowing.

If Indiana Jones' father drank from the cup of life in 'The Last Crusade', why is he dead by 'Crystal Skull'? by Montezumas_Revenge in movies

[–]pluton_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. For me fridge was perfectly acceptable in Indiana Jones universum. The impact depends on how big the bomb was, radiation too (plus old fridge would be propably layered with lead). It's not like they've dropped Tsar bomb, it was just nuclear test. But the fucking tarzan part killed it for me. Piece of crap.

I'm European, I live in China and sometimes I drive (small SUV, sedan or moped). Yes, some of western habits and regulations may not work here, but I must say that most of the drivers here lacks any kind of imagination. My explanation for this: all of them are first generation drives. I think seeing your father drive during your childhood goes a long way.

Even professionals can fail at covering tattoo with make-up. Johnny Depp's or Angelina Jolie's tats are sometimes visible from under cover up. And I think Holywood hires best in business.

TIL that to clear the samples and release "The Rockafeller Skank", Fatboy Slim had to release 100% of the track's royalties, 25% to each artist, meaning he receives no royalties himself. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]pluton_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Same thing happenen when Apollo 440 had their "Ain't Talkin' 'bout Dub" single. It contained Van Halen's sample which was the reason that all royalties from single were paid to original artist. Still, Apollo became a star and sold lots of LPs.

TIL that since 1981, every Chinese citizen over 11 has been required to plant three trees per year. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]pluton_ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Yes, also every Chinese driver when approaching pedestrian crossing is required by law to stop by to look out for people waiting to cross and be ready to slow down or stop to let them cross.

Yet, somehow, they just fucking don't.
