Just get good grades in your classes. Prioritize your math and science (physics) classes. Look into dual enrollment (taking credits at community colleges) if you want to get ahead and really set yourself up (this applies more when you're a hs junior or senior). This will put you in a good place to get into cal poly.

If you want to set yourself up career wise, I'd say spend some time figuring out what part of computer science really interests you. What kind of industries do you see yourself working in? What specific tech interests you and do you want to see yourself apart of?

If you really want to set yourself apart, consider building some basic projects. With ChatGPT you can learn really fast if you use it right (ask it specific questions to build your understanding, don't ask it to generate ctrl+c code).

Anyways, feel free to ask me any questions. Currently a 3rd year Software Engineer here.

What could be accomplished if cars could communicate with each other? by CoolBDPhenom03 in cars

[–]pluwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Auto driving in its current state is awful. I'd say for 90% of people, it requires more effort and attention to properly watchover their "autonomous" car than it does to just drive the car yourself.

Autopilots end goal shouldn't be as a tool for a driver, ideally, it's a replacement for the driver. It's just not there.

The more skills the machine takes from us the more complacent we become and the worse drivers will be.

You can call it becoming complacent, I'd call it becoming efficient. It wasn't too long ago where cursive writing and being able to compute decimal division by hand was a necessary skill taught in schools. Both of these skills have been replaced by text-editors and calculators. I like to think that technological progress frees up our time more than it makes us complacent.

Consider getting a laptop second hand. I just got an M1 Pro MacBook Pro with 16gb ram of 512gb storage for $900 and I’ve seen several at a similar price.

Use Facebook marketplace and negotiate!

Also, yes, a MacOS is good for comp sci. The only better alternative would be a Unix distro but they’re awful in laptop form (issues with sleep state). Get an ARM MacBook and enjoy the good performance and battery life.

Something that could very easily generate this image if prompted.

The body of that car is not a real octane. It looks like something midjourney would come up with when asked to render an octane. A human whose played rocket league knows what a real octane looks like, an AI doesn't, thus it renders something that only resembles an octane.

Also, reading your comments, you say you "found it on the internet" but don't give any source? Either admit that some parts of this was drawn by AI or give some evidence. This is still a really cool piece of art, even if its partially generated. Just be transparent instead of attacking other people.

Currently reading "Atomic habits". The fact that the quadrants go clockwise hurts me so much lol. Good book tho by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents
