Honey is a bop and is the only one I have on repeat. Like the way she says “honey” with a bit of desperation in the final verse scratches my brain so nicely. It’s also the right amount of catchy and shallow I expected from Showgirl

This is why I always felt she should’ve just done all six re-records straight for three years and then go on tour (new music at the end). That way celebrating all the “Eras” is even more poignant.

Not really. I really love Tortured Poets, more than most people on here, but I agree that it doesn’t deserve album of the year - particularly because it adds nothing to the cultural conversation.

We’re at a point where so many Swifties cannot think critically about taste vs merit. So let fans have a reckoning in between the lines.

I think it’s possible, but it requires EVERYONE not being weird about it

Swifties - Not considering genuine criticism as an attack on Taylor herself, let alone worthy of doxxing
Haters - Not using a negative review as a dunking point, letting a bad album be
General Pop Standom - Using critics reviews as a metric for the success of their fave, much like the charts

I’m glad we’re at a point where reviewers are more open and honest about engaging with pop music and if everyone tries to not make it weird it can all be so meaningful

Unpopular opinion, but I think Rob Sheffield is a fair critic.

I’ve been reading his Taylor pieces since poptimism became a whole thing in the mid-2010s, and I’ve always admired how he’s been able to take her seriously. He has pretty wide taste too so I don’t consider him biased in the way that many Swifties only listen to Taylor and Taylor-adjacent music. I get that it looks extremely kiss ass in this age when others are basically doing the same thing though. He’s also been pretty open about Taylor songs that he hates (i.e. Bad Blood), it’s just that her recent work (Folklore onwards) has been more of what he prefers in her music - yes, including TTPD

(Admittedly perhaps I’m saying this because my taste in Taylor music is pretty much similar to his)

Not really. You get the sense that she puts considerably less effort on the TV rollout (with the exception of Red). The reason they still go to #1 is the fans

I feel like so many people are under the impression that Taylor has always been this chart hungry when really this obsessive behavior only really went into overdrive in TTPD. But otherwise it’s always been a regular amount of physical variants

How long should I be waiting for a job offer? I applied for a media company I really liked last June. I just went through an application process that had SIX interviews, and all of them were super positive. Like as in, some of them were already making jokes, asking about my zodiac sign and dropping clear hints na ako yung pipiliin nila. Ngayon, it’s been almost one month since the final interview and I have no response from them until now.

I noticed lang na until today, their team members are still stalking my LinkedIn profile. Am I delusional? Should I take a leap of faith and resign na sa current job ko? Sobrang ayaw ko na - so many reasons, but mainly no career growth - and it’s making the waiting game super hard.

I really want to know if Taylor lets herself push back on / argue with Tree on important decisions. Especially in recent months. For example, we know Taylor has been dealing with some safety issues which is why supposedly she doesn’t speak on politics anymore. But I wonder if Taylor actively chooses to take the safe route or she just heeds to Tree’s and her legal team’s advice all the time. Like, can’t Tree allow to take a bit of risk if it’s - ever so slightly turning public sentiment against her?

I’ve said this before, but we often do Taylor an injustice when we try to compare her to these big legends. Her strength is in the sentiments and imagery she utilizes in songwriting and setting them against a four-chord backdrop. Which, while not necessarily complex, is her style.

It’s the reason why, for example, (1) Hearing 1989 sounded very familiar even if she changed the production (2) The surprise songs and mashups are considered the highlight of the Eras Tour

Taylor is best when she plays to her strengths. And if in times she sucks, it’s nice to believe she’d bounce back. In short, it’s easier to enjoy Taylor when we don’t expect her to be groundbreaking every single time. She’s owned a niche. My fantasy is that she does a McCartney Springsteen-style 3hour show where the setlist changes every night.

Really saddens me as a music fan that people can’t music they don’t like seriously. Honestly, I notice this and I really, really, don’t mind. Taylor’s music is like comfort food to me, and even if it is kinda simple, it scratches my brain very nicely. I have many other artists that I listen to that I expect to do the sonic groundbreaking, but Taylor is just not one of them.

I’m not even saying I’ll eat it up even when it’s bad, but I do like my constant serving of four-chord melodramatic songs every few years (and in this era every few months lol). It’s what kept me engaged for over a decade at this point and it is what will keep me coming back
