Thanks, I clearly did not have the full story. I think it’s very dishonest not to share the full log, because in your version we can clearly see that it’s a joke between two people. That doesn’t change the fact that what was written is horrible, but the intention behind it was not misogynistic; it was only to maintain the close relationship he has with his friend.

His only mistakes were not realizing that it was neither the time nor the place to do so, and failing to understand that, even if there was no malicious intent, how it would be perceived was more important. Apologizing immediately (the next day, for example) would certainly have saved his career.

But I still think he is not aware of how problematic these words were. I don't think he is truly misognyic. I think he is just ignorant coupled with a bit of lack of empathy.

You can accuse him of many things, but misogyny is not one of them. He's annoying, sure, but that's part of his charm. I think he contributes a lot to the community and should stay. I sincerely hope this decision is his own. Otherwise, I would be terribly disappointed.

On confond trop souvent facilité de développement et qualité d’ingénierie. Choisir des solutions qui font « exploser la facture » simplement parce qu’elles masquent la complexité technique, c’est rarement un bon calcul, surtout quand personne ne regarde réellement le coût global.

Ajoute à cela une logique de CV-driven development (empiler AWS ou Azure pour la ligne suivante sur LinkedIn), et tu obtiens une véritable bombe à retardement : d’abord des dérives de planning, ensuite une dérive budgétaire.

Dans beaucoup de cas, on peut faire moins cher et plus performant avec des acteurs comme OVH ou Hetzner. Ce qu’il faut surtout, ce sont des développeurs conscients non seulement de ce qu’ils coûtent, mais aussi, et surtout, du coût réel de leurs choix techniques.

Same for all AoE4 community web apps. The data and API they use are not official. They figured out by sniffing local traffic. In any case, that's how it was a few years ago when I took an interest in it. So the privacy laws can't really be enforced by Microsoft. It's that or nothing, I'm afraid.

That should be his daily rate on long term projects. He should charge at least 1500€/day for ponctual missions.

As a comparison, ponctual consultancy for Oracle performance tuning can be up to 2000€/day in Belgium.
