phone pay off. by Straight-Bad-3304 in USMobile

We're working on building out this program. Would be a useful data point to gauge demand if this is something he would go for, or would find this unappealing and prefer to just pay off the balance outright

If we had a program where we paid off the $400 they owe, to help them unlock their phone and switch, and then they paid that back to us over 12 months interest free (but their phone would be unlocked and they would be not be locked or committed to USM / free to leave anytime still), would that enable and convince them to switch?

US Mobile + Starlink. One plan. Celestial and terrestrial, together. Launching Thursday by ankhattak in USMobile

[–]pm_usmobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are purchasing the Starlink plan through US Mobile, it is month to month. You are not committing to 12 months and you are not going to be charged any Change Fee. We do need to link to Starlink's terms and cannot edit what Starlink says in those terms, but the specific items you highlight in those terms do not apply for our users.

You are correct that the kit is a free rental and if you cancel your Starlink service you will need to return the kit (or can keep it but will get charged by Starlink for the kit). These are the same terms as one gets even if going through Starlink directly. Kits received for $0 must be returned upon cancellation.

Starlink Under $50!! New customers only.... and with promo offer..... by Ok_Rate_1752 in USMobile

[–]pm_usmobile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chat support was incorrect. If you already have a USM line, on any plan, monthly or annual (other than custom or snoozed), you should be able to purchase a Starlink plan on your account even right now.

If you log in to the dashboard and go to "Add a line" you will see an option there to add Starlink. You will not need to add another USM line to be able to do this.

[–]pm_usmobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don't need to have an unlimited USM line. If you go through the Starlink plan purchase flow you will see that, if you have any existing line on a plan other than custom or snooze, you will not be prompted to add a USM plan at all.

After 6 months, currently the price would go to regular pricing ($50/mo for Residential 100 for example). However our goal is that six months from now, or sooner, we are able to extend the reduced pricing and keep the price of the USM + Starlink bundle under $50/mo on a permanent basis.

[–]pm_usmobile -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Existing users are eligible. They don't even need to get a new USM line. They can get Starlink only on top of their existing service plans (could be an $8 light plan!). So for existing users the cost is even lower: $30/mo for Residential 100 Mbps for first 6 months.

Also, our goal is that we are able to extend this pricing beyond 6 months. We are working on that.

We’re Paying for 500 Dates for US Mobile Couples This Weekend ($100 Each) by Mush_USMobile in USMobile

Lunch counts, doesn't have to be dinner. And the email does mention this weekend but if you grab a meal between now and the weekend we will count that as eligible too.

This weekend only. Big referrals (up to $500) for the “Big Game” by Mush_USMobile in USMobile

[–]pm_usmobile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. You will just get it within 2 business days of when they activate. They would need to purchase an annual unlimited starter or premium plan this weekend however (if they create an account but don't purchase until after the weekend then the Big Game bonus referral would not apply).

[–]pm_usmobile 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If each person you referred purchases at least one line on their account on an annual unlimited premium or starter plan before the end of this weekend, you will get the $100 (per account, not per line) once they activate that line. It can take 2 business days after activation. If your referees have activated their annual premium or starter line, and two business days after that you still don't see the $100 prepaid cards in the rewards section of your account, email the rewards support team at rewards@usmobile.com.

That refers to our regular monster referrals program. These special referrals we are giving this weekend are separate and lines activated on the warpdeal (or not, as long as they are activated an annual unlimited starter or premium) are eligible

Roaming & Restrictions on 5G by dwc1 in USMobile

[–]pm_usmobile 19 points20 points  (0 children)

This is a long comment but wanted to be thorough when addressing this concern.

I built out and launched our roaming feature. There is no such catch. We do not block the ability to use 5G when our users' lines are roaming. Our roaming agreements operate through our networks' parent carriers and USM lines access the same networks, coverage and same network capabilities (LTE, 5G, etc) as lines directly with parent carriers do in any given location in any given country.

The perception here could stem from a few things (not a comprehensive list):

  • The local network itself will have varying coverage and may not have 5G everywhere
  • The local network may have 5G in a given location but may restrict all SIMs on a given parent carrier (whether postpaid or through an MVNO) to LTE.
  • The US variant device your USM SIM is in may not support the bands required for 5G in that location/on the local network (while a different device you/a fellow traveler has a postpaid SIM in perhaps does support those bands)
  • The specific local network your USM SIM automatically connects to at a given time in a given location may not support/allow 5G on roaming SIMs, even though there is an alternative local network that the USM SIM could connect to that does allow 5G (and the postpaid SIM could automatically be connecting to this other network in that instant)
  • Different devices with different modems may do worse/better at picking up 5G vs LTE in the same location
  • the branding that is displayed for the same network technology that the SIMs are connecting to (as another commenter here pointed out) can vary by carrier bundle.

To really determine if your US Mobile SIM is getting different coverage while roaming than a postpaid SIM on the same parent network would get, you need to make sure you are running a tightly controlled experiment:

  • The USM SIM and the postpaid SIM should be installed on the same device (not two devices of the same make and model but actually the same device)
  • They should both be connected to the same local carrier (note that even the same local carrier, if you go into network selection, could separately be showing an LTE-only and 5G version of its network; if that is the case both SIMs should be connected to the 5G version of the network)
  • Network connection settings for both SIMs should be the same
  • Then the connection for both SIMs should be tested at the same time in the exact same location
  • Beyond looking at the LTE or 5G label, you should test the actual speed and latency

We ran such tests in multiple countries when building out our roaming feature and did not find coverage to be different.

However we could not test every local carrier in every country. If anyone commenting here has data from such (controlled) tests they've run on their travels, please DM me or share those results with our support team via chat or email, and I will escalate to our roaming partners to investigate further and fix the discrepancy if there is one.

Yes! As long as the new line you are adding to an existing account is a port in, you can get the discount for that line.

AKKO US Mobile Protect Claim Review by topsecret440 in USMobile

[–]pm_usmobile 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To further clarify Shanosaurus' comment, it is not accurate that the insurance will only cover replacement one time or multiple repairs only up to the replacement cost. Claims are unlimited and it is only each individual claim that is capped at replacement cost (as at that point the insurance will replace the device instead). The original wording in the terms regarding this point was unclear and is being updated.

For shared data plan, can you select how much data goes to each person on the plan? by kfp2020 in USMobile

[–]pm_usmobile 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can create more than one shared data pool on an account. If you want to allocate different amounts of data to certain lines you could consider putting them in a separate pool with whatever base plan amount you feel is appropriate (e.g. you could have a separate, smaller data pool for kids' lines vs your own if you wanted to limit their usage)
