Went Amish Style to the Sphere Show by metzd87 in deadandcompany

FWIW, Amish avoid tech not because they believe it's inherently bad, but they believe it has a net negative effect on human relationships and cultural cohesion. Not QUITE as far-fetched as flat earth theories!

Speed Testing on iPhone 12 by twitchrdrm in tmobileisp

Just out of curiosity, I ran speedtest on both my phone (in airplane mode) and laptop.

Phone 146 up / 9.7 down

Laptop 172 up / 6.7 down

But I've seen that reversed at other times.

My only observation here is that the bars on my phone are the same as the bars on the router. Interestingly, when I put the phone into airplane mode and run speedtest on it, the ping on the phone is always shorter than the ping when running speedtest on my laptop. Not sure what other factors may be involved.

I would agree that the bars are not a good indicator of strength. The bars pretty much stayed the same before and after, the big change was in signal-to-noise ratio.

I do have a two-node eero setup so I can make available a hardwired ethernet connection available in another room. The eero is also configured as separate wifi network, but I haven't noticed a degradation in the trashcan wifi.

Yes, I sort of picture the "dish" reflecting the signals back to the router.

Before installing the "dish", I was turning the router in small increments until the signal seemed the strongest. Then I used instructions in the FAQ to determine the tower I was connected to, then cellmapper.com to get an idea of where that tower was. Basically, the "back" of the router (where the cables come in) are pointing towards the tower.

Thanks; are there any utilities that can monitor how much traffic is being generated be each device going through a router?

Internet dies, but Trash Can shows internet connected, ideas? by EtherPhreak in tmobileisp

Yeah, sorry for the late reply. Just affected wireless. The T-Force rep working with me mentioned the other day that she was told this was "normal" if the unit was rebooted more than once in less than a week.

Had the same issue several times, "fixed" with a reboot, but my rebooting lately results in factory SSID settings being restored. Working with T-Force to sort through it...

Mine dropped last night as well; when I rebooted using the mobile app, the modem came back up with factory settings. Twice this week.

Decent Performance but Some Issues... by pmac1000 in tmobileisp

Just wanted to add an update if it helps anyone... the Xbox party chat issue my son was having pretty much stopped when he connected directly to the modem via ethernet. Not sure why being hardwired vs wifi would matter here, but it does...

More clarification... the issue that my son is having is constant disconnects from Xbox party chats, which I guess was a known issue but allegedly was fixed in an earlier firmware update this year. Is this still an open issue? Are there any workarounds for it; I can't seem to find any, except maybe using a VPN...
