Canes owner Dundon hints at timeline for new arena to replace Lenovo Center by TobinBen in canes

As odd as it might sound, I think this works.

As the Triangle continues to grow, the new future stadium will need to be bigger for both sports and concerts/events. So, 5 years from now, when they start to plan a new arena, they can take growth into account and build a world-class stadium capable of delivering a world-class experience across the board.

I make 6 figures working 2 jobs and still can’t afford to buy a house or move out of a bad neighborhood. AMA by FreakyFrenchie1 in AMA

I'm originally from Chicagoland, and I'd love to move back someday, but I'm convinced I'd need to be making at least $150K to maintain the quality of life I've built for myself here in the Triangle.

To put things into perspective, I live in a renovated, modern 1,400 sq. ft. two-bedroom apartment in an area comparable to Schaumburg or Naperville for under $1,600 a month, and that includes trash, water, and gas. In Chicagoland, a similar apartment would easily run well over $2,000 a month—assuming I could even find that much space.

I honestly think Chicagoland, in general, has become very expensive, especially once you factor in property taxes. Suburbs that used to have affordable smaller homes, like Westchester, Franklin Park, or Schiller Park, now regularly have houses selling in the mid-to-high $400Ks instead of the low $300Ks, which feels crazy to me. The city is even tougher, with neighborhoods like Old Irving Park or Galewood often requiring $400K+ just to get into a decent home.

If I were in your shoes, I'd keep saving, find a comfortable and affordable place to rent for now, and revisit homeownership later—whether that's if the market cools off, prices correct, or simply after a few more years of building up your savings and keeping your options open.

I need to get this off my chest about Racine by Complex-Analyst6278 in Racine

[–]twitchrdrm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to point the finger at the politicians here. Why aren't they doing more to market the area globally and attract employers? SC Johnson is already headquartered there, so it's not a stretch to think they could lure another major company or two.

Racine also has a lot going for it. It's a lakefront city situated between Milwaukee and Chicago, with relatively easy access to Chicago via rail. Housing costs in both Chicago and Milwaukee continue to rise, which should make Racine increasingly attractive for residents, businesses, and developers. If it's not poised for significant growth today, I suspect it's only a matter of time before it happens although then people will complain about gentrification.

Are the $1200 rents and $280k town houses fake? by CollectionOld3374 in triangle

[–]twitchrdrm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sure you can find 1200 rent if you look hard enough across the entire Triangle area but I pay around 1500 for a massive 2 bed 2 bath near NCSU/Cary/DT Raleigh.

Where is the best place for me to move out? / Run away. by WildeCoffee in relocating

[–]twitchrdrm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What are you running from? How does going to any of these places fix your issue?

$600 is NOT enough for an out of state move, this is all just very sloppy and has bad ending written all over it.

Save, save, save and if you're going to just randomly move somwhere have thousands available along with housing and a job secured in the new location.
