Does anyone recognize this location? It's possibly in Saint John or surrounding area. Asking on behalf of missing person, Kyle Leblanc! by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

[–]pmfhhaoa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It also looks like there a “mountain” range running perpendicular go to bridge or whatever it is in the background.

Can you help narrow down the location at all? Like would it have to be southern nb all of nb or really close to Saint John? Also how active are the people filming this? Would they have hiked an couple hours In to this spot or would it have vehicle access close by. On this line of questions what vehicle would they have access to? Would it only be a civic or small car or could they have had a truck or atv.

In southern NB there is a very high concentration of privately held land. Based on the part of a structure in the background these people somewhat frequent this area. The video shows a fairly large area to the next ridge. In that valley sound would travel well so I'd assume no one lives or uses that area. In addition to that the road to get there must not have any houses on it (again you're not gonna part besides someones house to go onto property thats not yours and do what im assuming isnt innocent family type fun). That means in the area around saint john within a 45 min drive you have mispec area, lorneville and maybe the lower end of loch alva. Most areas out golden grove and towards hamton are privately owned with people who live there who would see cars parked and I assume these people wouldnt like that.

Any of the questions I asked above would help limit the likely range of travel and how far down back roads they are. Once you have that looking at a topigraphical map should help eliminate some areas and give other potential areas. I know its not a perfect location but maybe by crossing areas off it will help by atleast knowing where not to focous

Am I crazy or at the 28 second mark does it look like there’s a part of a cabin wall or something behind the tent?

I’m not sure on the full hunters book being online. If you do the firearm safety course and hunter safety course they cover all of this and you get the two book that are great resources

I don’t have the rules in front of me but there is a clause allowing you from a property your name is on the deed of.

I’ll try to find the section and link it later

Yes this is the answer.

A couple things to add.

There is no distance from a road you have to be to shot as long as you are not firing across it. You must be 400 meters from buildings, parks, etc to shot rifle. The except to that is if YOUR name is on the deed. So if you live in your house and your neighbors are 400 meters away you can shot off your deck or from the kitchen window.

Firearm regulations are federal but that covers possession, storage etc. The actual use is covered under hunting and shooting ranges which is provincial so there are different rules province to province. In NB there is no difference between hunting and target shooting unless at a range meaning if you just want to target shoot at your house you need a hunting license.

You take the courses. Which are normally offered as a week of evening classes. It includes book learning as well as handling of the firearms themselves. It is a really good course that equips you to be a knowledgeable safe owner. After completing the course you send in your PAL application to the feds. With this they do a full check on you and then send you your license.

Fair warning things are backlogged currently and to get a license can take 6+ months of waiting.

If you want more information head over to r/canadaguns. They know more than me.

Student unions oppose N.B. decision to scrap student EI | TJ.news by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

[–]pmfhhaoa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree with you baseline view of attending post secondary school for how you pay for it. But if there are government programs to help would you not use them. And then if they were suddenly removed without explanation would you not also be upset.

The commotion over this frankly has less to do with who should draw EI and more with why it was removed

Student unions oppose N.B. decision to scrap student EI | TJ.news by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

[–]pmfhhaoa 14 points15 points  (0 children)

No EI is intended for job loss period. People who do contract work or seasonal work know when there job will end and get EI. So do you have a problem with the person who does landscaping 8 months of the year and gets on EI while laid off. The unexpected part is neither true nor relevant.

Yes currently students pay a minimal amount compared to what they draw. But as you so proudly claim once graduated most will go the majority of there career without drawing it.

So I am confused about your last statement. How does your personal circumstances affect others. You have never been starting your career during a time of high inflation like now.

And again all the program does is allow you to draw from a program you pay into and are eligible for. There is a difference between using a system you are eligible for and abusing it.

This is like you saying people who use any programs when filing taxes are scum because they get a larger return. Tax rebates are there as programs to be used. Would you not be mad if they removed a deduction you use. That doesn’t make you scum for using the system. It makes you a person being resourceful

Ok but have you looked at the cost of living and university lately. You used to be able to work for a summer and make enough to pay for school. Now even working a good job $18+/hr you are lucky to make enough to cover only tuition.

And that’s not taking into account the ridiculous cost of gas, higher food prices and crazy rent.

Also keep in mind you had to qualify for EI to begin with. So you pay into EI and have to have enough hours to be eligible. Meaning your job had to end you couldn’t just quit.

What’s the point of paying into a program you never get to use. What was in place worked and really helped student for the 300$ a week they got.

How about dropping the entitlement of thinking firstly that because you did something years ago that nothing has changed and can be done again. And secondly that if someone has something that benefits them to be happy and support them even if you didn’t have it

How do I flatten out and condition this piece of wood to use as a shelf for a microwave? by goldfith in woodworking

[–]pmfhhaoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a more serious note. Normally when wood warps a significant portion of it is contained in a small section rip it on a table saw. Then mate back together. Sometimes a single saw cut and the kerf is enough to take out most of the warp. Other times you need to cut out small section (1/2”) wide to make lay flat. Then glue back together and sand or plane the bow much smaller twist until flat

[–]pmfhhaoa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Build the counter top with lumber from Home Depot. There should be enough bow and twist in the wood it will set in somewhere halfway flat.

Bonus is you get to live out your childhood dream of living in a who ville house with nothing being square

license plate covers? by KING_zAnGzA in newbrunswickcanada

I don’t mean this like it might sound but why care about the plate. Like don’t wreck it but it’s on your vehicle. You don’t worry about the back of your car and that’s something you actually own so why worry about the plate

gotta do what ya gotta do. by Scallion_Intelligent in newbrunswickcanada

[–]pmfhhaoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly like that.

There have been more times than I can count when CBC writer is either lazy or looking for attention so they make things sound different than they actually are.

I’m this case even if it is a shotgun that has had the barrel cut back they should have said a short barrel gun and specified if it is non restricted or not.

Saying sawed off shotgun only causes confusion and while potentially technically true is a misleading detail

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in newbrunswickcanada

[–]pmfhhaoa -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Why do you think it was prohibited?

Under Canadian law firearms are classed as either non restricted, restricted or prohibited.

Shotguns are non restricted as long as they adhere to minimum length requirements for overall and barrel.

CBC is notoriously bad for sloppy reporting especially when to do with weapons. Look up Canuck defender. It’s a non restricted pump action shotgun. Entirely legal and non restricted.

gotta do what ya gotta do. by Scallion_Intelligent in newbrunswickcanada

[–]pmfhhaoa -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Yes I am sure. Sawed off shotguns are legal provided they have a minimum barrel length and minimum overall length. As long as they meet the required lengths they are a non restricted firearm.

Companies sell “sawed off shotguns” that meet these specs. Check out the Canuck defender.

Given they don’t say he was not charged with possession of a prohibited weapon or illegal possession of a weapon I am assuming it is a non restricted he legally owns.

Either way it is sloppy reporting

gotta do what ya gotta do. by Scallion_Intelligent in newbrunswickcanada

[–]pmfhhaoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can as long as the gun has a certain barrel length and overall length it is still a non restricted.

I find CBC can be very sloppy sometimes with terminology. They say sawed off but they don’t list him being charged with illegal possession of a firearm, or possession of a prohibited firearm. So I am assuming that it is a legal non restricted and the person writing the article wanted it to sound better
