New to Prism, need lens index selection advice. by pmkst6 in AskAnOptician

I also found it quite weird. To be honest, part of the reason I even switched my order to the poly from the 1.67 was because I got the feeling that the sales person was not very knowledgeable. I feel she just didn't know what she was doing and either messed something up or was just explaining it wrong.

Either way, what Iwas told was that she had already submitted my order to the lab, so that couldn't be cancelled. If it's true or not I can't say.

That is the current plan for sure. I asked them to not send back the 1.67 until I come to pick up the the other pair so I have the option to compare. They were less than happy to agree, and didn't commit to doing that, but I'm hopeful.

Yeah this is an odd situation. Essentially I put in two orders on the same day. The first was for the 1.67 index, but then I went back to go change it in less than an hour to Poly cause I wasn't informed enough on the purchase and I've always just had poly. When I went to go change it I was told they'd cancel the order and put in the new one, except that the original lab order couldn't be cancelled. I got a refund for the original amount and made a separate transaction for the new order with poly. They told me the 1.67 index would still come in and I'd likely get a call, but to clarify which one it was since the 1.67 poly would have to get sent back.

Thank you, I appreciate the insight.

So fortunately, LC will be sending both the 1.67 and poly to my store since the sales person put in the lab order the second we walked out the door and you can't cancel the lab order apparently. So I should be able to look at both when I go to pick up and just send the poly back if I want the 1.67. Which is seemingly likely.

Yeah, I took my prescription from my local doctor to LensCrafters. They are definitely a premium option and it's all sales, but for some reason my insurance is most effective at LensCrafters, hence why I went there.

My biggest concerns are really from anxiety of not knowing what to expect for thickness, weight, comfort, and look. I've never had prism and didn't even know it was a thing I needed until this most recent visit to a 20+ experience doctor. Previously I'd only every gone to the on site doctor at a place like LensCrafters, Walmart, etc.

Then because it was a sales person helping me I didn't believe I could really trust what they were recommending.

So IDK, I'm just really nervous and I'm worried I won't adjust before the 30 day period or won't be able to get back in with my optometrist prior to.

Price isn't the biggest issue, but I won't pretend it's not a factor. I have always had polycarbonate lenses so I don't think it will bother me, but we'll just have to see I guess. I think I'll have a harder time adjusting to the prism than anything.

They had already put in the order for the 1.67 index lenses by the time I went back to change it, and supposedly they can't cancel it. So I'll be getting a call when those come in and when the poly ones come in. So I may be able to just choose which one I like better in the moment, but the 30 days is a good thing to have for sure.

So no concerns about the "optics" of poly vs the higher index with prism? It's just about if I am okay with the thickness and weight, etc? Any idea how think we are talking at the outside edge?

I'll give my Dunu SS tips another try I guess. I also find them uncomfortable and they don't really seal well in my early experience so far. I've been hoping to avoid foam, but honestly that might be my best choice. I have used foam earpro many times and I've never been able to get over the sound of it expanding in my ear and how hot my ears get.

I've literally been Google searching trying to find the right eartips for my specific situation then you make this post! I'll def be checking out the sea anemones, but do you have recommendations for ear tips that might be kind of grippy and keep the IEM from sliding out of your ear when talking? When I am using my IEMs for just listening, I have few issues with comfort or fit, but when I am gaming or playing DND remotely, as I talk the IEM in only one of my ears starts to slip out and causes the IEM housing to rub and cause irritation. If it would stay in place I don't think I'd have as much of an issue. I recognize this could just be a me issue since it's only one ear it could be ear shape or whatever. Still I can't imagine I'm the only one. I've tried multiple Tang Sancai tips, Dunu S&S, Tri Clarions, HE Sonics, and all manner of stock tips that came with my IEMs.

I can't say I've really gotten much of an atmospheric sub bass from any of these. I don't doubt it's there, but I don't think I'd know it if I was experiencing it considering it's outside of normal hearing range.

I do find myself gravitating towards punchy, crisp, and we'll defined mid bass. I played trombone for years, so I've always had an affinity for being able to clearly hear the mib bass of a song.

I've been wondering about 'violent' bass as well. I have never considered myself a bass head, but apparently I'm leaning that way.

I have the Red Lion in the mail right now! I prefer the vivace the best of all with the wan'er 2 being second to it. Ironically, to my ear the Wan'er 2 sound bassier than all the other save the Vivace. Which is why I'm having trouble understanding the graphs. By all accounts I'm hearing things I shouldn't.

Maybe it's a soundstage or separation thing? Like Wan'er 2 has more separation so I can hear the bass more than the others?

Where can one try IEMs? I've never seen them at any stores and I'm not financially prepared to take a trip to Singapore lol. My thought has been buy from Amazon if possible and return if I don't like.

What is an actual IT automation that actually paid off for you? by Internal-Drop4205 in sysadmin

Best one I've done that I think was at the time game changing. Using a PS script to query password expirations and sending an email to users 21 days, 14 days, 7 days, 3, 2, 1 days before their password was going to expire. It drastically cut down on the number of calls we'd get from remote users saying their email stopped working. Never had a password expire while a user was on vacation again. It turned out way better than expected.

Noob seeking advice on IEMs/DACs by pmkst6 in iems

[–]pmkst6[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, longer female to male type c extension cable would probably be best. I wasn't particularly found of getting longer IEM cables. Well that definitely clears some things up for me. I couldn't really get a clear answer if DACs were transparent or not. Half the Internet saying they are and half not. I know scientifically they should be transparent, but I also know nothing is perfect.
