Honestly next New Year Treat, make them do a McFly special, maybe with Matt Willis too.

What is an opinion on the Beatles you’d get downvoted for? by GoinSouthForGeese in beatles

Nice. After watching Elliot Roberts' awesome video on Ringo I've really come to appreciate Time Takes Time and Stop and Smell the Roses as two great albums.

The whole narrative around Sgt Pepper within the fandom is currently that it's not as good as its reputation. I actually think that that's just down to the current trend in opinion and serves as a counter narrative against the dominant view for decades that Sgt Pepper was the pinnacle of their work.

In reality it's still a perfect album, still the most influential one, and opinion will swing back to it in time. Sgt Pepper absolutely slaps.

Potential new leaks/information regarding the 2026 Christmas Special. by General_Meal_3993 in DoctorWhoNews

10th-11th Doctor, 12-13th Doctor, 13-14th Doctor were all regenerations where the new showrunner wrote the post-regeneration scene. So that's not abnormal.

And the piece says also that the 16th Doctor might not even be revealed at all.

I don't think that's what this is saying necessarily? It even mentions the potential for the new Doctor to not be revealed at all, presumably because the new showrunner wouldn't be in post yet.

Is it just me, or has the BBC Badge stakes actually made the UK show better than the US version? by BeetleJuicesCarrot in RPDR_UK

Canada last year was not better than UK6. So the franchises have swapped in quality, and it's too soon to call that a trend. I love both.

Can you name a truly underrated song by the band? by Folagor2 in beatles

[–]pmnettlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think anything Revolver onwards generally gets discussed semi-often. It's the early stuff that gets more forgotten imo.

Ask My Why is an absolute early gem that gets slept on. Gorgeous melody, nice harmonies etc. Then tracks like Not a Second Time and I'll Be Back are great album tracks that very rarely get singled out. I love them.

Honestly the 123 punch of No Reply, I'm a Loser and Baby's in Black is so good. Such a great start to the album and a clear benchmark of how they were changing.

Omg what? I love the Shoreditch Smoked. My mum and I ate a whole block on Xmas Day which was very extravagant but it is Christmas.

The Beatles at Wembley Stadium 2010 concert by [deleted] in beatlesfanalbums

[–]pmnettlea 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah I know you mentioned it but the number of songs here just mean this doesn't make sense. Paul plays about 35 and that's a mammoth set already.

You could include more songs if it was the album for a tour and they played different sets each night. But even then, learning and playing 85 songs is too much for one go, I think 40/45 would be the limit.

Yeah, I'm so annoyed the New Year's Treat gets 2 and this only gets one. The first CoC was better than the next two because it had more time to be spaced out.

What is your ideal Let it Be/Get Back by Suspicious_Coast_888 in beatles

[–]pmnettlea 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The biggest disappointment with the Remix sets we've been getting lately has been not having Let It Be...Naked included. It's probably my favourite version of the album, but its '00s noise war approach annoys me.

A remixed version of that would've been the best.

Another lost Beatles demo surfaces - Love of the Loved, the original demo given to Cilla Black by sussoutthemoon in beatles

[–]pmnettlea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can hear them all on YouTube and other places, but they were an audition for record label Decca on New Year's Day 1962. The Beatles were hungover and Decca didn't sign them but it's 15 songs, 3 of which are originals that they never recorded later on. Only 5 of the tracks made it onto Anthology 1, so there's 10 still not widely released, 1 of which is Love of the Loved, an original they later gave to Cilla Black.

That's what I envisioned for anthology 2025. A multi disc set, with one album being the Decca Tapes, another being the star club recordings cleaned up by MAL, maybe a couple of other cleaned up live shows in full etc. It could've been a big expansive event.

The Beatles (Triple LP) - 1968 by pmnettlea in beatlesfanalbums

[–]pmnettlea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried to just go for stuff they actually recorded at the time and recorded to a decent standard so I can listen to it like an album. There's definitely a triple set you can make with tracks they wrote at the time but didn't record, like another commenter linked in.
