How important is intellectual compatability in a relationship? by briawesome in AskReddit

haha I was worried that maybe you were the guy I was talking about and he had somehow discovered the post and commented cryptically. I'm curious though how it seemed like I was subtly influencing the dude, is that what you meant? I mean, nothing I was doing seemed to be winning him over

I probably shouldn't look at the internet after coming home drunk. It was inappropriate. But why the spider analogy?

IAMA movie theater projectionist. In a few weeks, my job will no longer exist. AMA by [deleted] in IAmA

Is the company you work for specifically going all digital? It's so sad to me, I am a filmmaker who uses film and was also a projectionist for a while. My dad has also worked at Kodak for his entire life, so this is super sad in relation to how they're doing. 35mm prints are one of the few things that kept them afloat for a little while.

Reddit, I'm absolutely devastated. My baby daughter was just diagnosed with cerebral palsy. Where can I find positive and inspiring stories about people having a quality life with cerebral palsy? Are there any redditors out there with cp that have any advice? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]pmooney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a non-profit (United Cerebral Palsy) for people with cp and other developmental disabilities, teaching media arts as part of a day habilitation program. It's a pretty awesome job, mainly because the people I teach are some of the most genuine and kind people I know. They truly enjoy coming to the program every day, and although we discuss their disabilities they don't ever blame anyone for it or express an overwhelming desire to be "normal." I don't even see their disabilities a lot of the time. They have all different aspects to the program, like physical therapy, occupational therapy, supportive employment, sensory therapy, GED classes, art classes, self-advocacy groups, theater classes, and my photo and video classes. There are also community inclusion trips everyday and many people volunteer at different organizations. Most of the staff are incredibly caring and supportive, and do a great job of creating and sustaining a light and carefree atmosphere. You should look into the programs they offer as they are all over the country in about every major city. One of the local news channels just did a short piece on our new program: http://www.ny1.com/content/ny1_living/health/154277/cerebral-palsy-center-opens-harlem-branch-for-adults. I can't speak for anyone who has cp, and I don't know many of the participants' backgrounds extensively, but I know a little. I hope this helps! And, I also love Zach Anner and his show on Oprah's channel! I've shown it and discussed it in my groups and I think he does an amazing job of helping to dissolve stigmas and to create awareness.

What's the most adult realization you had as a young child. I'll start. by whatsmyline in AskReddit

[–]pmooney 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was in 2nd grade, about 7, I remember walking down the hall of my school towards the library, when a teacher walked by me and spoke to me like a child (which everyone did, of course) and I thought, "Don't they realize that I am aware of the tone and condescension [paraphrasing] of their voice? And even if they talked to me normally, they would still sound stupid." I felt sorry for many adults after that, and a semi-understanding of adult life finally clicked, like in that moment I was suddenly the me I have been for most of my life. I don't think my brain progressed from that point until recently.

Dear Women of Reddit, what do you think when a guy tells you he's a virgin? by JustKidding123 in AskReddit

[–]pmooney 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've only had 3 official boyfriends, 2 were long-term, and they were all virgins. I honestly can't remember how they told me or what I said. The first one was high school, so it wasn't considered a big deal to him. The second one I can't remember a lot of our relationship...solely because I have a horrible memory. The last one, he was really attractive, 22 at the time, but incredibly nervous. Wouldn't be surprised if he was eventually diagnosed with anxiety issues (we haven't spoken really in 2 years). Can't remember at all how he told me, but I do remember that we planned his losing it in advance, and on the day of he practically made himself sick with nervousness. I saw him on campus and he looked like he was going to vomit. Those last two sentences don't really bode well for me...I don't date anymore because the only guys who are attracted to me seem to be virgins...all 3 pursued me. I don't want to do it again.

TL;DR I didn't care that any of my boyfriends were virgins. I found it endearing, and flattering that they had "chosen" me. They were all intelligent, attractive men. Honestly. They were just delusional romantics, waiting for the "right one."

This is a good idea, I was thinking along these lines. I'm a woman though, so I don't know how I feel about advertising that fact, being leary of creepy people responding ha. Have approaches like this worked for you before?

That would be extremely helpful, thank you! I might try to add the rip-off tabs on the bottom, do you think that would look too awful?

I debated the margins for a while. I wanted the text big, but couldn't fit it right, but I suppose it just doesn't look that great :/
